Pats sign Chris Harper off PS

If Harper can return kicks and do a semi-serviceable job as a backup slot WR, the Patriots will be ahead of the game. My guess on the new slotting is:

Amendola will now be the SWR1/quick hit WR
LaFell will be the OWR1
Martin will likely serve, in some capacity, as the hybrid WR (SWR2/OWR3), if he ever returns
Dobson will be the OWR2
Harper just needs to be the SWR2/SWR3, depending upon Martin's status.

6-8 weeks is all we need here, guys...

...Stay healthy, my friends.

I really wish we could have seen more of Harper and Tyms this year. Edelman and Dola are great, but a bit redundant. Hopefully Harper can surprise us and become a bit like David Givens was.
Not at the moment. Good thing we have them both.

Well Edelman and Amendola are not redundant at all, the post-season last year and this season has proven that. Which then I have to question why you would want to see Harper if you think Edelman and Amendola are redundant.

He looked fast enough tearing up our coverage in the Superbowl.

As soon as Browner covered him he was shutdown Revis 2009 style. That's not saying Browner is that good, Matthews is that bad. He just had length.

Length and he made catches on a big stage supposedly he is lazy and doesnt put all his talent together I wouldnt mind letting our coaches working with him and see if we have anything it wouldnt hurt.

Yep. And if people don't think so they are more than welcome to go watch the game again. Specifically on Seattle's last drive 2 plays before Kearse's circus catch. Browner runs 50 yards with Matthews and breaks up the pass right at the goal line.

His time to shine...let's see whAt he's got

And Browner is slow

Dobson is being heavily criticized in this thread while Harper is being praised like he is welker in his prime
nailed it.
I think that Harper is like Edelman few years ago, he has plenty of time to learn and practice with big boys and chance to prove himself on PS.
They sign him in case of injuries to other receivers. Be prepared.
I am happy that Barker is cut, that means that Vollmer will be back.

Who knows, maybe he'll surprise us like Dion did. In any event adding depth at WR is a given. Damn it, can't believe we lost Jules! Damn it. F*#&

With a situation like this you can only try and find a positive spin. At least this injury to Edelman happened in week 10 rather than in week 16. With the situation as it currently is, there is a chance that Edelman will be back for the playoffs. If anything, the Patriots under Belichick and Brady have demonstrated time and again that winning in the regular season is as easy as breathing for them. It's the playoffs where the unexpected truly happens against this team. That's when they need every weapon on both sides of the ball. So I am not as bothered by the injury. On the contrary, it will serve to strengthen every level of this team.

Maybe the second most myerious injury after Jamie Collins's "illness" is the Cannon "toe" injury. Maybe some ligament damage / Turf toe, or a partial break? Hope he's back soon - Brady could really use some pass protection.

PWP: I say Cannon broke his big toe. I expect him back vs the Eagles at the latest.

THIS!!!

Eh....honestly probably anther Bam Childress or Tyms. A lot of preseason Jerry Rices that don't pan out to be anything. Hope I'm wrong but, I probably wouldn't count on much.

I'm an optimist so I'm excited Harper is getting his chance because there is really no other option and it's good to reward the practice squad players. Until they prove otherwise I'll root for them to succeed and help our team .

"Harper, an undrafted free agent out of Cal, had 15 catches for 150 yards and one touchdown in the preseason and also returned punts in college should the Patriots have a need in that area in the coming weeks."

Patriots promote WR Chris Harper from practice squad

Saw a ton of Harper's reps at camp this summer. Saw him light it up in the preseason games. Thought he should have stuck on the roster at least until LaFell got back. Yes, I was (am) a big fan of the kid's skill set, especially his hands. Hope he gets a shot to show Brady he can be trusted.

Edelman and Dola are great, but a bit redundant.
This is a dumb comment. They play two different positions and one is able to allow the other to not have to return punts and kicks for extra wear and tear.

If Harper is a good route runner, what are his weaknesses?

Probably NFL size he's 5'11 but on the slender side...will he be able to take NFL punishment?
