I think Myles Jack could fill a couple of those roles. I know its still unlikely and a long way off, but his injury could drop him out of the 1st round. And considering he has a $5mil insurance policy if he doesn't get drafted in the first round, it might be in his best interests to fall into the 2nd round.
In terms of RB, I have been quite vocal the past few years about not wanting to spend a high pick on any RB. The exception to that would be trying to set ourselves up to get a high pick in 2017 to draft Leonard Fournette, that kid is absolutely special and in my opinion the best RB prospect by far since Adrian Peterson.
Myles Jack is only a junior Isn't he? I'd think he'd probably go back for his senior year - he's a lock for the top half of the first round if fully fit.
Yeah, I'd be very surprised if he comes out in 2016.
Normally I would think so, but having that $5mil insurance policy if he doesn't go in the first round due to injury could actually be an incentive to declare. Going back to school is always a risk and declaring might be the safe option. We all know how much things fluctuate during the draft process and every year there are at least a dozen guys at one point or another we all say "player x is a definite first round pick" and they fall.
Now Jack's injury happened early enough in the season that he will probably be healthy enough to work out pre-draft and might not fall at all. But if I'm in his position I declare regardless because the downside is still $5mil+ whatever his draft slot is + reaching free agency a year earlier in the NFL. If he ended up going early/mid 2nd he would probably make more money than being a top 10-15 pick anyway.
I actually agree with you: If I'm Myles Jack, I
definitely declare in 2016.
01 ~ I don't know how much of that $5,000,000 would be applied to Loss of Market Value, but it sure goes a long way towards eliminating any Incentive to stay in School and expose his body or his Market Value to Injury. And as his previous Market Value had already skyrocketed to the Top 10
before his Injury, thus presumably establishing insurable Value, I see little Advantage to be gained from remaining in School.
02 ~ The Recovery Year. One of my Pet Theories is that it usually takes Players 18 months, give or take, to fully recover their previous Levels of Excellence ~ if in fact they do so. That consequently usually produces what I call Recovery Years, wherein the Players play, but at a relatively mediocre level.
Mind you: Jack is a Freaky Freak, and a young one, so he may very well be back to 100% by next September. But it is a Risk, one that could produce an uninspiring Senior Campaign that causes his Stock to tumble to the 2nd or 3rd Round or even further. Of course: That cuts both ways, as the flip side of that coin would be his enduring that prospective Recovery Year as an NFL Rookie...
But even as a 1st Rounder, Growing Pains would be expected, and he'd very likely be 100% for the start of the 2017 Campaign, with the additional Benefit, of course, that he Got Paid after the 2016 Draft, most probably entirely from'is Rookie Contract, but prospectively supplemented by his Insurance Policy.
03 ~ All of which is to say: Considering the fact that his Injury is not considered serious or detrimental to his long term Health or Efficacy, I believe that he'll
very likely be a 1st Rounder if he declares
this Year, but actually faces more substantial Risk of his Market Value taking a Tumble if he
stays.

But do I believe that Jack
himself will declare this coming Spring, flying in the face of Conventional Wisdom and Years of Historical Precedent?? Actually...
quite possibly.
The fact that he actually took the stop of investing in that Policy in the first place tells me a great deal about Jack's capacity to think above and beyond Conventional Wisdom and Historical Precedent.
To think Off The Grid, if you will.
Indeed, the fact that he took that Step ~ as a
Rookie!! ~ is, in my Opinion, the
strongest Argument there is that he has the Wisdom, the Vision, and the Testicular Fortitude to make that next Bold Move.
Yep. Writing is an integral part of my Thinking Process, and while I'd already previously and instantaneously made up my own mind as to what
I'd do, I must say, on further review, that I think you've got an excellent, excellent point, Brother Wilfork: All things considered, I'd say that it's a
distinct Possibility.
