FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- In the aftermath of the New England Patriots' 40-32 victory over the Bills last Sunday, the point was made that receiver Aaron Dobson might have played the best game of his three-year career with the team (seven catches, 87 yards, 70 overall snaps played).
Bill Belichick isn't one to rank such efforts, but he agrees that Dobson -- the 2013 second-round draft choice from Marshall -- has built momentum through the early part of the season after some up-and-down moments in 2013 and 2014.
"He was productive last week and really came through for us," Belichick said Friday morning. "I'd say one of the best things about Aaron last week was his blocking. He threw a couple key blocks on those slip screens to get Dion [Lewis] and Danny [Amendola] started. It wasn't just the catches, which is kind of what everybody measures the receivers by. But it's being able to do the other things that help the team and help make other plays good plays. I thought he did a nice job last week."
Dobson essentially had a lost 2014 season, in part because of an offseason foot surgery that altered his training (he only played 57 offensive snaps in the regular season). He came back strong in 2015, but then was sidelined with a hamstring injury in training camp for an extended period, before returning at the end of the preseason.
He's back on track, and with top outside receiver Brandon LaFell remaining on the physically unable to perform list, Dobson is the team's tallest receiver at 6-foot-3 and now a top option on the outside.
"Aaron is really smart. He can play all the positions. He makes very few mental mistakes and he has a lot of length. He can run. He's been productive for us," Belichick said.
"Unfortunately, he hasn't consistently been on the field. When he has been on the field, he's had production and he's worked hard to stay on the field. As his career has gone on, I think he's worked harder each year in terms of his training and trying to be a more durable player. It's good to have him. He missed some time this year, but it was good to have him back."

I thought those were several of the DBs.Didn't he spend the off season with Revis, or was that a different player? Regardless, I hope he continues to produce.
Yea I picked up on that too.To me, there is an implication in Belichick's words that Dobson hadn't been sufficiently conscientious in his training regimen and has only currently begun to take it more seriously.
He will catch a TD sunday.
At a minimum, everyone on this board was a Dobson skeptic because there was good reason to be. His rookie year was ok, he got hurt, couldn't work out. Was way behind in 2014. Hardly played. Got hurt. Got hurt in 2015 camp...Guys, I am officially getting nervous that Aaron Dobson is going to make me look silly again the way Julian Edelman has. I am died-in-the-wool Dobson hater! Actually, that's not accurate...I am a Dobson skeptic. I just look at the circumstances and believe(d) he was cooked.
So, yes, I am biting my nails now.

If he can work on catching the ball cleanly and contribute 3-5 catches a game and haul in a couple of deep balls to keep defenses honest it would be huge for this team moving forward. They don't need him to be a 80/1000/10 guy. 30/500/4 is just fine.

The 2013 draft was atrocious. Check out that list. IMO, it's produced one beast WR1 in Hopkins.
Allen is an up and down player. Tough to say what he is at this point. A solid WR2?
Woods, Williams, Wheaton, C. Johnson at this point are mediocre WR2s.
The rest of the list is composed of busts/irrelevant.
Dobson still has a chance to be one of the best WRs from his class. He seized WR2 snaps from Amendola in week 2 and played well. Rooting for him to break out.
Its no longer a rumor that Dobson is playing well. The Great Gazoo with the hoodie has spoken.

The Great Mad Genius says it better than I could ever do.
haha, okay I'm guilty of this. You can count me as one of Dobson's critics. Criticizing him has been so in vogue these least a couple of years.... but if he can convince a hater like me into becoming a fan (and remain consistent) then I will gladly sing his praises

Chris Harper is clearly more deserving of a roster spot
Would like to see him toast Revis once.
