We gonna move up Thompkins and unleash the beast against the Jills!

The move would actually make some sense. Ryan likes to flood the middle and force Brady to beat him on the outside, so Thompkins and/or Dobson could, theoretically, help break Ryan out of that.

Tebow! Adam Seward! David Patten! Jonas Gray!

Damn it, doesn't anyone on this forum have an inside source? I'm going to have to tweet Mortensen to find out the facts.

My hunger strike worked to bring back KT and then I threatened in an email to start another one to get him on the 53. This went unreported.

venecol tweet to Mortensen: "Pryor Patriots Transaction?"

Subsequent Mortensen News Alert on ESPN website: "Pats source confirms Prior Patriots Transgressions"

If they were going to sign someone not currently on the roster I think they would do it soon. If they bring someone up from the PS, no need to announce anything. My bet would be KT on the flight Sat.

But then why do release Harper now? If it is a promotion then mg is right that the player being promoted was being courted by another team. If not, then someone new is being brought in. Either way the team is likely to make another transaction within the next day.

I really really like Evan Spencer. This kid has great hands, excellent jumping ability and 4.4 speed at 6'2" 208. Also an excellent blocker. Made some Odell Beckham type catches in college. Just wasn't used a lot because Ohio State used a lot of receivers by committee. His dad was former Ohio running back Tim Spencer. IF Spencer is healthy, he would be a very good signing. His physicality makes Dobson look like a peewee football player.

Yeah, my crystal ball is a bit fuzzy, but plenty of guys were released today as teams juggle rosters after game 1. You are right though that if they want to exchange Harper and KT they would sign KT tomorrow to free the spot for Harper. The question is whether Harper was on the roster because they think highly of him or because Gibson and Wayne didn't work out. If the latter, maybe they don't intend to re-sign Harper.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Patriots look at vested veterans, since their contracts will no longer be guaranteed.

We're high on OSU wideouts around here lately, I see.

Not a criticism, just an observation.

Someone has to be signed either to the 53 or PS after someone is promoted.

It's too late for someone on the street to be on the 53 IMO.

Why? The team brings in several outside bodies every season. Or am I not getting your point?

I know, that isn't really addressing my comment. My reasoning for expecting a signing soon is that if this is simply a PS swap unmotivated by anything but a preference for Thompkins over Harper, then there is no need to make this move now. PS or 53 doesn't in any way affect how NE prepares for this upcoming week.

If it is a promotion, then it almost certainly was precipitated by something external.

Because tomorrow is Wednesday, its probably too late for that player who is on the street to be part of the game plan for Sunday.

True. We don't know why Harper was cut. My point is that they need someone to fill either the 53 or after someone from the PS is promoted, they have a spot to fill.

A Thompkins/Harper swap appears to be the most obvious action, but the timing does seem a bit weird to me. Usually those transactions happen at the very end of the week.
Especially since Harper looked way better catching the ball that Thompkins.
