Rolando McClain visits Patriots

Site is back up, time to catch up:

@RapSheet: Rolando McClain’s visit with the #Patriots ended without a contract, though it was a positive one. #Cowboys still very much in the mix

@MarkDanielsPJ: Rolando McClain made 81 tackles in 13 games for Dallas last year. He had 99 tackles and 5 sacks for Oakland in '11.

with all his baggage he should come cheap.

That article about him taking a year away from the game so that he didn't turn into another Aaron Hernandez (by his analogy) doesn't freak me out. Stress management/anger management is hard. Good for him for recognizing it.

It's not that he doesn't believe in hard work, accepting hard coaching, etc. It's just that for a while he didn't feel up to dealing with it.

Agreed. He has his issues as we all do. I say sign him. He's got immense talent and I believe is what this D needs.

Well....that's certainly ONE way of looking at the situation. Some may think that he's had legal, drug, PED, suspension/fine, attitude, and quitting issues (twice).

There's also the possibility that he may have had something to do with the latest episode, which was the inability to sell his home--which somehow burned to the ground with video surveillance taping someone driving off.

This is one of those "in BB we trust" situations, b/c he does have some run stopping ability, especially if Hightower is in any doubt of being placed on the PUP.

It will be interesting to see if this even amounts to anything, since he and DAL were many miles apart on what both sides felt his current worth was.

Oh, I didn't know about the possible arson.

Oh, I didn't know about the possible arson.

I figured that I'd include it in the laundry list of his past mistakes and questionable choices, even though it's purely speculative and there is no concrete evidence whatsoever that currently links him to this.

The authorities did rule it as arson, although they haven't made any arrests yet and are still working through the investigation. The last report was about 3-4 weeks ago. I'm really not meaning to drag his name through the mud any more than he's already done himself, but since we're discussing him, it is worth noting.

That said, we've seen plenty of reclamation projects and I do believe that everyone deserves another chance. It just seems as though trouble follows McClain wherever he goes, and that could be cause for concern. It's certainly worth kicking the tires on, and I imagine Belichick would take a chance at the right price. What that price is would be anyone's guess, of course.

BB has proven he can effectively manage supposed malcontents mainly because he flicks them the moment they start playing up.

I'm all for another quality addition to the front 7. McClain is a helluva player when he's on, you just have to hope he's on.

I was really up for this until reading about the probable arson. Ugh. It causes me to realize that I'm still a bit spooked by the Hernandez situation. But if I am, I'm sure the Pats management is 100x more so.

Left without a contract.
Doubt we get it done.
Jerry Jones is a hard man to outbid.

Considering the arson possibility and all the rest of it, Jones can have him.

Apparently the defense did better after play calling duties were taken from him and his snaps then decreased. That has me thinking his contract offers are discounted based on that information.

All the other stuff the Pats can manage.

Potential suspect in an arson investigation is a hard pill to swallow.

The Saban and Hightower connection makes it attractive.
The Patriots were trying to get him 25 cents on the dollar.
I'd assume this will play sort of like the Stevie Johnson scenario we call his agent with a better offer, he talks to Cowboys and makes a decision.

McClain got in much better shape last year. Forget about exact number. But, he dropped some weight. Aikman and Buck discussed it during their games. He looked much quicker than he did in Oakland. He'd be a good 4th Lb, if he's willing to accept that role. More snaps if Mayo and/or Hightower not 100 pct.
