ESPN: 11 of 12 footballs under inflated by 2 pounds of air.

The refs don't notice because it's only a slight difference and they weren't looking for it as they handled the footballs. The Colt's LB didn't notice until he handed the ball off to the Colts equipment manager because he wanted to keep it (intercepting Brady in the AFC champ). He immediately noticed because he's the equipment manager and he handles the footballs on a daily basis.

So from the info that's currently out it seems that all balls passed inspection prior to the game and at some point between kick off and half time 11 balls were deflated to 11 PSI. This isn't the weather people. The weather isn't deflating 11 balls to exactly 11 PSI but all Colts balls pass inspection. It's looking more and more like someone on the Patriots deflated the balls.

Is it cheating? Yeah, technically. Do all teams do this? Probably, but like Spy Gate we don't know for sure. Is it THAT big of a deal? No. Does it effect the outcome of the game? No.

But it does leave another black mark on the Brady/BB Patriots, which kinda sucks.

God are you trolling or is the entire thing still too complicated for some people?

The reason the balls were deflated is 100% the weather. It doesn't matter one bit that the Colts balls were less/not affected because they were definitely not pumped up in the same room as the Pats balls were.

I am willing to bet that we inflated our balls in a very warm environment (80+degree). They passed inspection because at that point they were still above the 12.5 threshold but after multiple hours outside they were not anymore.

This is the most likely scenario and there is not a single rule that was violated.

The league will not punish us at all and in the offseason the rules will be rephrased to make everything more specific.

When all else fails...denial. I don't even get what the big deal is. People upset like we lost the game.

Bonus: So how serious is this? Seriously, this might be the dumbest sports scandal of my lifetime. Keep an eye on the millions of people debating underinflated balls, Avogadro’s law, and what NFL rules say about pounds per square inch. No matter what happens from here, we will all look back five years from now and be baffled that any of this really happened.

It's a "story", but that's all it is...nothing more.

The reality is, it's nothing to be concerned about just like video taping signals was nothing.

I am on to Seattle! And if you guys don't start posting about the game, I'll consider you all ex-Patriots fans.

Well, that was my whole point in the post you quoted. That it is a story.

Looks like lightskinsmurf is no longer a Patriots fan.....

My point was that it's a meaningless story. We may not agree, but that's ok.

I have no idea how misleading this story is because I don't know all the facts, nobody does. So we don't know how misleading it is... Also, I wouldn't say I disagree with you. I don't even have a stance right now because until the facts are out I don't know what to think. I just hope the patriots didn't purposely deflate the balls and this story can go away.

To me, even if the ballboy deflated balls purposefully, it's a non-story (see Rodgers). This isn't the kind of thing Belichick would orchestrate and nothing will link back to him. So I don't need to know any more facts.

Why do you?

Well of course to you and other patriots homers this is a non story but the fact is it won't be a non story to the rest of the world. Maybe you do not care if the patriots are tied to cheating but I do. Which is why I hope they didn't cheat. I do not want my team tied to cheating once again.

Looks like tom meets kappernick just jumped off the Patriots bandwagon too....see ya tommy!

Wonder why they didn't report this along with the 11 out of 12 balls? did they have to doctor results?...or did they just hand check them and now they made up results with gauge results. I would think that there would be a team official there when refs are measuring....maybe that's what happened I don't know. Again I get suspicious when they didn't hardly show any replays of penalties..all of a sudden. Maybe Goodell worked a deal with Kraft to agree that they actually measured the balls..for the good of the NFL. Kraft will agree to take one for the NFL...50000$ and 4 th round pick. Seems more plausible then pin and gauge on the sidelines

Throughout my life, I've taken pride in not worrying about what other people think. Because if what other people thought about me influenced the way i live my life....my life would be very sad.

The ONLY reason these things are brought up about the Patriots is because people are sick of them being so good for so long. We know for a fact other teams film signals and adjust ball pressure....so why the focus on the Pats? Hate, and nothing more.

That is why one of the worst things someone can tell a child is "Don't do that because people will think less of you" You tell them "never worry about what others think of you"

And this just happens to be the first time they were caught? Come on. They were inspected 5 mins before the game and passed and then at half time they were at 11 PSI. All signs point to the Pats deflating them.

No, they don't.

I'm sure I'm the hundredth to point this out, but absolute pressure is proportional to absolute temperature for an ideal gas in a container with fixed volume and fixed # of molecules. 25 vs 5deg celsius is about a 7% difference in absolute temperature, (14.7+11) psi vs (14.7 + 12.5) psi is about a 7% difference in absolute pressure. Just in the right ballpark. To say something more precise one needs to know more about the balls (how much do they expand with pressure/temperature, what is their heat conductivity etc).

The question is just the measurement protocol (were the before/after measurements done at the same ambient temperature? How much time was given to equilibrate the air temperature in the ball to ambient temperature? How were the gauges calibrated). Taking the pressure measurements at different temperatures is absolutely the easiest way to change the pressure in a number of balls by the same amount.

Claiming any kind of cheating/culpability without knowing the exact measurements and protocol is completely idiotic. At the end of this thing, many people will look like utter morons - but too early to say who that is going to be.

Normally I would agree with this stance but in this case its not just what OTHER people think its what I think as well. I do not want my team tied to cheating. It annoys me as a fan that I have to deal with this. I shouldn't have to deal with this. I do not agree with the notion that cheating is ok as long as you win by enough points or as long as its not that big of a deal in your own opinion.

I also don't agree with blaming other people IF infact the patriots did break the rules. If they did break the rules its not ok just because other people might do it too. Since when has that ever been an ok stance to take? If the patriots did break the rules the only blame should be on the patriots themselves. Instead of the SB being the sole focus right now, we are now talking about another patriots cheating scandal.
