I'm genuinely curious -- can you find any example of a player who hit the IR midseason without ever appearing on any injury report, missing any practice, etc.? A massive violation of the CBA seems like a pretty big risk to take for a player you consider relatively expendable anyway.
White is a better special teamed than bolden by a good amountChris White.
Jonathan Casillas has made him redundant anyway.
waiting for Mankins' release...You do all realize this was Belichick's master plan all along? Shadow roster Agent Blunt reporting for duty sir!
Muahahaha
In their defense, I think Leon Washington was the planned backup last year. But he got hurt even before Vereen did and wasn't the same when he came back - and thus couldn't beat out Bolden for the reps. He was getting reps in that role in camp / exhibition games before the injury.
You're right, I totally forgot about him. This makes the case even stronger for White to stick around. Since 2007, Bill has had at least two receiving backs on the roster, with the exception of a single game.
Don't see the point unless Bolden is getting cut.
Such a great deal to boot. Love this signing! I want to send the Steelers a thank you letter.Ben Volin [emoji818] @BenVolin
Confirmed that #Patriots are signing LeGarrette Blount. It’s a 2-year deal worth the minimum plus incentives
Maybe this is a bit outlandish but is it possible that by waiting until Thursday for this signing they ensure that the Lions cannot game plan for Blount but the Pats may be able to get him in the game for some touches based on past experience? That might be a bit pie in the sky but crazier things...
Kinda feel bad for Gray in a way, but I think they can be a great duo
It seems unlikely, especially given that the Pats aren't likely to be running the ball between the tackles a lot.
OTOH, if you take my equally unlikely game plan of using Vereen and White both out of the backfield and making the Lions' vaunted DL chase them all over the field, then by the 4th quarter you can bring in the hammer and pound them once they're pooped.
This might have been a preventative signing - one that keeps blount away from the colts and broncos, two RB-needy teams.
