Patriots vs Broncos Week

Anyone notice how Brady and Belichick keep gassing up Manning with compliments throughout the week? I feel like it's done on purpose

I'm talking about how many times they keep changing the lineup of O-line. They haven't come up with a definitive line up. They're swapping players around every week. And like I said later on in my post, they haven't been up against very good defenses either. Well, except KC and we all saw how that went.

And if they're allowing deep throws by Alex Smith and Kyle Orton, then what makes you think they'll be able to stop Peyton Manning throwing deep to his weapons? Sure, against the likes of Smith and Cutler they did well. But how will they fare against a QB like Manning? I guess only gameday will tell...

You've already been edified on Ridley, so allow me to correct your misconceptions in this post.

NE is actually one of the best defenses in the league at not allowing long passes. Sure, they haven't faced a murderer's row of QBs to date, but you are completely incorrect with your comments on that.

You are also uninformed when it comes to the OL. NE's OL is set and has been for four weeks. Solder-Connolly-Stork-Wendell-Vollmer. The only deviation we've seen since the Cincy game was injury related.

Weather's gonna be pretty cold and wet on gameday, as it stands now. Manning has thrown 6 INTs in a game before in the rain (vs Chargers). While I doubt he'll throw that many, especially since he's been playing outdoors the past few years, I think there may be some blunders for the Broncos.
However, I'm worried about the PATS' ball control especially with Steven Ridley... I know most of the team knows how to handle a ball in the rain but they have a lot of young players on the team particularly on receiving. Another thing I wonder about is the O-line. They have been playing better, but to be fair they weren't exactly up against very good defenses either. It'll be interesting to see how they will stand against an improved Broncos defense. The PATS haven't quite found a solid lineup for the O-line, which worries me, and I hope they can settle on a definitive lineup. We can't be having any fumbled snaps against a defense like the Broncos'.

I have a bad feeling the defense is going to have to win this one for them. With the injuries, and the way the secondary allows deep balls this year so far, I'm really hoping they can pull this one out and maybe use the weather to their advantage.

Well, I think there's just as much to be confident about as there is to worry about. I'm not sure the injuries on defense could hinder Belichick's expertise all that much. I just hope the O-line can protect Brady against that Denver defensive line.

brady seems very loose today...i like it

No one is saying there isn't plenty to worry about, just that you might want to post accurate reasons to be concerned. :)

You can keep saying that but the problem is that the issues you claim the team has are either not correct, have zero chance of happening, or are made up in your head.

So , why not spend more time actually following the team closer, looking at statistics, and learning about football instead of coming on here and making this board look like it is full of idiots.

There is plenty to worry about every time the Patriots take the field in every game over the course over the history of the franchise.

What does this all mean ? o_O .
O-line has to protect against any defense . They cant protect be protecting against denver and not against San Diego. Its their job . Is there some gameplan idea here Iam missing ?

I think it means the exact opposite of what he is trying to say, but I only got my B8384-to-English guide a few days ago.

Well, let's see. I don't see a lot of good teams fumble snaps. Sure, they did it once against the Bears but doing that against the Broncos would be much different, even just once. It may change the game a lot. The Broncos defensive line is a LOT better than the likes of Chicago, New York, Buffalo, and Cincinnati. So I don't think its too far out of the question to worry a little bit about whether or not the O-line will do all that well, though I hope they do. Brady has been strip sacked a few times this year against worse defenses.

I understand your position about the secondary so far, but they have yet to go up against someone like Peyton Manning. And I think if QBs like Kyle Orton can throw 20+ yd passes up on the defense, especially on 3rd and long, then how are they going to fare against Manning? I know no team has passed 40+ passes on the PATS, but look at the QBs they've been up against. They have yet to play against a calibur of QBs like Manning, Rodgers, Rivers, and Luck. I think a lot of you are speaking way too soon. Its good to be optimistic about the team, but I think there's a difference between being positive and being arrogant. I'm trying to be a little more realistic while I'm optimistic they can pull off a win vs a good team. That's all

Just to understand, what parts are you optimistic about the pats while being realistic ?

I think the key to New England winning this game is having success running the ball.

B8384, So now you are worrying about the Pats fumbling a snap because it happened already. How many fumbled snaps does Brady have in his career.? Also how many in proportion to other QB?. And the rain issue means that BOTH teams have a better chance of doing it It docent rain when the Pats are on offense and stop when the other teams Offense comes out.

Also, I said nothing about our secondary but you have certainly picked probably last thing on this team to worry about there.

When you say a lot of us are speaking to soon - what does that mean? What are you talking about. You are the only one making definitive claims. Everyone else is looking at everything rationally and objectively. You are just trying to find things to worry and complain about.

Just stop posting at this point. You are making yourself look like a real clown and making the whole forum look stupid.

Well, I think if the defensive line gets to Manning, and stops their attempts at rushing they'll have a good chance. I agree that running the ball will be a key factor on offense, especially against the most strict defensive line in terms of allowing rush yds. That would be crucial. And their weakness is certainly pass defense, so success in the running game will only further open up the passing game and Brady might be able to get some deep passes in.

I'm confident that the coaching staff will be able to prepare a good defensive strategy against Manning, and might be able to get some INTs off of him (plural intended). I think it all comes down to the preparations on O-line, to be honest.

We faced these 4 defenses in a row, over the past 4 weeks. These were their rankings at the time we faced them

CIN
1st scoring defense - 11 points/g
1 in TO differential - +6
least TD passes allowed - 2
best opp. pass completion - 54.3%
4th in pass defense - 239 pass yds/g
3rd in yds/play - 4.9 yds

BUF
1st in sacks - 17
1st in TO differential - +6
1st in the AFC in INT - 6
4th in yds/play - 5.0 yds

NYJ
2nd in sacks (1st in AFC) - 19
4th in yards per play - 5.1 yds

CHI
3rd in INT - 8
2nd in the NFC in sacks - 19

I don't see a reason why we can't contain them.

Not that it means a dam thing, while I am cautiously optimistic the Broncos fans in the my office and around Denver think this is a done deal and a win for Denver. While sports media folks should love their team these guys on TV here are firkin idiots, they dont analyze the teams at all, just say every time they get on TV "the Broncos are going to win the SB". I sure hope our guys can shut them up. Regardless I bet there will be another chance.

They all seem to think that the Denver defense is too god and Von will be all over Brady, Im more worried about Ware. They also dont think our guys can cover all their weapons, Im more worried about Hillman. Of course I want to see if Revis can really shut down DT, not convinced of that.

I hope not. I don't see anyone on our roster capable of getting the tough yards against Denver's excellent front. With Trevathan out, hopefully Vereen can get the short passing/draw game going as a subsititute for the run.
