Emmanuel Sanders wanted to be a Pat

Hindsight is 20/20. Honestly I am fine with amendola and lafell.
People tend to forget the stone hands sanders had prior to denver.
The WR corp is not a weakness anymore. Dobson, lafell, Tyms, edelman and amendola round out a very wide range of skill sets that help the team.

I don't get why we are trying to recreate a 2007 type offense, especially since with this one Tom has been averaging 35pts a game once the oline started blocking. All this is is a pissing match between "homers" and pessimists.

Don't kid yourself. The Patriots WR corps is still a weakness and a problem.

seems weird to spin this as a patriots personnel mistake. We tried to get him, couldn't, and got someone else. The Patriots correctly made him their top choice. I guess some people would rather that they hadn't signed anyone last offseason at WR, so that they could pay Emmanuel this offseason? Or that we'd given LaFell's money and then some (who has been capable in his own right) to Sanders?

Seems like a reach.

denver also got tj ward, vasquez, ware, etc,etc..

so much for the myth that spending in free agency doesn't equal wins. but at least kraft is happy that we saved some money. maybe he'll reinvest into the revs!:D

The Broncos aren't winning because they spent in FA. It helped, but they're winning at basically the same clip that they did last year, and they're doing it mainly because they have Peyton Manning, plus Von Miller, Demaryius Thomas, and Julius Thomas on rookie deals.

We'll see how they look once a few of their guys go down, since the biggest problem with big FA spending is that you tend to mortgage your depth and/or the future.

What is funny is, given the OL issues to start the year and how long it takes NE to get comfortable with new WRs, the odds are that we'd be having this identical conversation in reverse had NE snagged Sanders and Denver landed LaFell. At this point, both teams appear to be happy with their decision.

Now, if someone wants to make the case that NE could have gone harder after Sanders last year instead of selecting Dobson, that would strike me as a far more credible argument.

I disagree. Nobody behind Edelman and LaFell can be counted on yet. One injury to either Edelman or LaFell will put us in big trouble. Everyone not named Julian or Brandon has only combined for 9 catches in 7 games. That's not good for anybody. I've almost given up on Dobson but I think perhaps Tyms could contribute. Maybe be sort of like a Kenny Stills for us?

If Thomas and Sanders went down in Denver, why exactly would Denver NOT be in trouble?

The real question comes down to Wright and what's going on there. If the offense can get the 2 TE thing going like against Cincy, the WR talk is somewhat moot.

No defense currently can deal with that.

Sounds more like Emmanuel Sanders wanted to get paid.
Based on his performance last year he wasn't worth that kind of money. Amendola underplaying his contract didn't suddenly alter the market value of seemingly mediocre receivers like Sanders might have liked to believe.

Well the discussion in the off season and preseason was that we kept up with Denver including myself.
After 7 games that's clearly not the case.Denver is head and shoulders better at this point in the season of on both sides of the ball.
Pats are a good team.Denver is very good.

Sanders, Welker, Talib - all piss me off in a Broncos uniform

Can we snatch up 1 of their big 3 FA's this off-season? Miller/Thomas/Thomas
I know many don't like him, but ooooh.. Miller combined with Jones and we'd be scaring QB's ****less.

We get it. You made a whole thread about this we get your point.

Please name me the last time (post 2001) that a Peyton-Manning-QB'd team wasn't dominant?

Pats **** the bed originally. Steelers were cash strapped on the cap and could have offered a little bit more $. Then could've locked him up with DA deal. Homers need to stop searching for reasons to say the Pats couldn't have signed ES for a particular price. They were wrong, admit it, and move on. Honestly, I think the LaFell signing made up quite a bit for missing on ES

Now that we have the emotional idiot analysis and commentary satisfied...............

Let's get back to reality.

The Patriots made a $3.25M offer which the Steelers had to match or receive a compensatory pick (3rd round).

Pittsburgh chose to match a few hours before the deadline.

This happened in April 2013.

What numb nuts above and many others seem to forget is by this going down in April 2013, the match occurred fully two months before the Hernandez thing went down.

Sanders would only have been at best a complimentary piece in a Gronk/Hernandez based offense. Outside of forecasting what would transpire, the reality is a fair offer was made on a complimentary role. Sanders would have been maybe a 4 or 5 option in a considerably better offense.

For 2014 it's either Sanders and LaFell.

That choice is up to the individual.

The most annoying thing about this Sanders discussion is that it's all hindsight 20/20. Sanders dropped a lot of passes in Pittsburgh and the difference now isn't because suddenly he has Manning. Plenty of times Roethlisberger put the ball right in his hands and he choked hard on the catch. He wasn't a world beater with the Steelers. He was okay. He was an okay receiver with really good speed.

Now he's taken a leap in his play making in Denver and everyone is all WTF WTH Why didn't we sign him?

At the time most of us probably preferred Sanders over Lafell but not by much.

Please name me the last time (post 2001) that a Peyton-Manning-QB'd team wasn't dominant?

Dominant? Plenty of times. How do you define `dominant`? A winning record? He hasn't even been `dominant` in all his years with Denver, like 2012.

I didn't even think they were dominating anything last season except Fantasy Football.

This year, however, they're unfortunately legit.

Honestly your hindsight is flawed because you are only fine with Amendola because the emergence of Edelman has diminished the significance of Amendola's failure to this point. If Edelman was not here there would not be a single person saying they are OK with Amendola. Edelman has allowed Amendola to suck and be gazed over.

LaFell is a good signing and he will do well I was an advocate for LaFell even before he signed, I actually opened a thread at the start of UFA suggesting signing him. He is a real good WR who was underutilized in Carolina.

They almost brought him in last year. This is not a "hindsight" discussion.
