Robert Kraft defends Roger Goodell: "The way he has handled this situation is excellent"

You don't have a clue what you are talking about. Goodell is no visionary unlike Rozelle.
I never said he was. All I said is that arguably the greatest all time commissioner screwup ever, one which people still talk about 50 years later, was Rozelle playing games the weekend after JFK assassination.

You can make a royal mistake and still go on to do a good job. Rozelle is lucky we didn't have Twitter and ESPN back then.

I don't think many people are under any false illusions on those counts.
I disagree. Even prior to this incident, there was no shortage of people in this forum talking about how horrible of a commissioner he is and how horrible of a job he is doing.

All I have ever said is that he does a great job at what he was hired to do and that many of the things he gets criticized are really the responsibilities of the owners. For some reason, that statement sends some people in here into bouts of uncontrollable rage.

People criticize Goodell for giving Rice only 2 games. Tagliabue wouldn't have even given him that much.

I think it a bit disingenuous to compare the expected reaction to women's issues 15 years ago to the expected reaction of today.

That was not the greatest all time commissioner screw up of all time. That was Rozelle's biggest regret as commissioner of the NFL.

You can make a royal mistake and still go on to do a good job. Rozelle is lucky we didn't have Twitter and ESPN back then.
You are making a mountain out of mole hill.

All you have proven throughout this thread is that you are nothing more than a Goodell lapdog.

If franchises move across the country to increase revenue that is a bonus for the NFL.
Wow. What an incredibly moronic thing to say, even by your own already-low standards.

All the franchises moving across the country were horrible for the league, especially from a PR standpoint. People were not happy with what the Irsays and Modells and Adams and Frontieres did to their loyal fanbases.

Once again, you are freaking clueless.
Thursday Night Football was Tagliabue's baby since it was implemented in 2006. Paul Tagliabue's retirement took effect on September 1, 2006. What awe inspiring rule changes revolutioned football under Goodell's watch?
There were 6 Thursday night games played in 2006. There will be, I believe, 16 this year.

Once again, you are freaking clueless.

But do me a favor. Next time some idiot like you criticizes Goodell for all the Thursday night games and how dangerous they are, make sure you explain to that person how Thursday Night football in its current form is really "Tagliabue's baby".

I think it a bit disingenuous to compare the expected reaction to women's issues 15 years ago to the expected reaction of today.
OK, except Tagliabue was commissioner up until 8 years ago. I don't seem to remember much acceptance of domestic violence in our society 8 years ago.

That was not the greatest all time commissioner screw up of all time.
It was as far as the NFL is concerned. I don't know enough about other leagues to comment on what may have happened in baseball in the 1920's or anything like that.

Rozelle's move was indeed the greatest commissioner screwup. People still talk about what Rozelle did 50 years later. Guess what? No one will be talking about Ray Rice in the year 2064.

Tagliabue expanded the NFL to 32 teams. Houston, Cleveland, Baltimore all received expansion franchises.

Once again, you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

The genesis of Thursday Night Football was Tagliabue's idea.

Do me a favor. Keep your head firmly entrenched in Jetdell's crotch.

Roger Goodell is nothing more than a farce, a complete charlatan.

Pete Rozelle was a visionary.

You don't know crap.

Rozelle's "aptitude for conciliation" with the league's owners and his work in expanding the NFL however, led to his receiving Sports Illustrated magazine's 1963 "Sportsman of the Year" award.

Yup! Such a tragedy!

No ****, Sherlock. Thanks for the strawman argument.
The genesis of Thursday Night Football was Tagliabue's idea.
Like I said. Next time someone criticizes Goodell for Thursday Night Football, I will give you a heads up so you can explain to them how it's all really Tagliabue's baby.

Just don't be a gutless wonder and back down from your own statements. TIA.

Yup! Such a tragedy!
What does that have to do with anything? He himself admitted it was the biggest regret of his career.

The only moron is someone like you who thinks people will remember Goodell's handling of this incident 50 years from now the way people still remember Rozelle's own monumental screwup of November, 1963.

Your statement:

The NFL was nowhere near the behemoth when he took over that it is today.

Clueless.

OK, except Tagliabue was commissioner up until 8 years ago. I don't seem to remember much acceptance of domestic violence in our society 8 years ago.

He was commish between ~10 and ~20 years ago. I split the difference thinking that was fair. Do you honestly find that unfair? Even 10 years ago should not be compared to the present day. A decade is a long time.

OK, except Tagliabue was commissioner up until 8 years ago. I don't seem to remember much acceptance of domestic violence in our society 8 years ago.

I don't seem to remember NOW calling for Tagliabue's resignation ever.

What does that have to do with anything? He himself admitted it was the biggest regret of his career.
Read it and weep:

Peter Rozelle Sports Illustrated magazine's 1963 "Sportsman of the Year" award

Yep, the NFL knew about it a long time ago, and Goodell lied about it last night. Nice job, Bob.
