Should the Patriots attempt to convert Jake Bequette to tight end?

Bequette played TE in high school and he was recruited to Arkansas as both a TE and DE before Houston Nutt (head coach) decided to redshirt him as a freshman and to have him only play DE. It seems that playing DE at the NFL level is not going to work out for Bequette, but I wonder if TE would.

He has the physical attributes –

Height: 6045
Weight: 274
40 Yard Dash: 4.75
20 Yard Dash: 2.70
10 Yard Dash: 1.66
225 Lb. Bench Reps: DNP
Vertical Jump: 34
Broad Jump: 09'05"
20 Yard Shuttle: 4.07
3-Cone Drill: 6.90

There have been NFL players make the position change in the past, Jace Amaro, Taylor Thompson, among others; even James Develin was a DE at Brown prior to the Patriots converting him to FB.

This could be offseason boredom, but I figured I would throw it out there for discussion, thoughts?
Jace Amaro. I kinda wanted him at one point. He got drafted by the Jets. Now I hate him with every fiber of my being. I'll bring this post back up when he get's his first catch against us.

Sorry Jace, New England hates you.

All due respect Craig but I don't think that is true. Belichick has drafted Bequette, Buchanan, and Moore in the past 3 drafts.

That's my point, Buchanan gets 2 sacks in 3 games as a rookie. Including giving D Brickashaw Ferguson more than he could handle. They had the RB help him out and Buchanan still beat them for a sack. That's encouraging yet they found an excuse to bench him and not even give him any snaps at all. Not even passrush downs. Over run containment mistake to never let him play?? Happened before where very talented players were benched and held back because they showed talent it could cause fans to uproar for that player to get more snaps or even start if their impact plays kept up.Coaches wanted the starter to keep his job and didn't want controversy for anybody else to start yet. I know of several times that's happened. And was later even revealed.

I came over on the Mayflower as an 8 year old. Why do you ask? How old are you?
I've heard of that boat before, but I actually lost my virginity to a chick named "May Flower". I think she was a stripper.:)

I was trying to figure out if you were young enough to play in MLB.

I'm 35 years old.
I was 35 once. Seriously B6, my point was that just because someone played a position in HS or even in college doesn't mean that person can play that position successfully in the highest professional level. It reminds me of the idiots who rhapsodized about Tebow playing TE. Playing college sports, even Division 2 as I did, is incredibly overwhelming in comparison to high school. And I was a walk-on non scholarship guy. I sucked relatives speaking.

Lol nah sorry

What other examples are there of a guy playing 2 years as a DE or 3... Idk and not even being good enough to touch the field yet we want to make him an NFL TE. ?

In general, what players have ever done nothing on one side of the ball then go on to be a decent player on the other side... It's unheard of

If he had just played two years at ARK then converted it could work... In the NfL??? I'd rather have Asa Waston and Justin Jones and I don't even know who they are.

That's actually not true, but it sounds like a good story, eh?:p

Holy ****, you knew her too?? She used to pole dance down on Pawley's Island near Myrtle Beach. I saw her give change to a guy for his beer out of her panties. Small world.

I get what you're saying J2 and I recognize the unlikelihood of Bequette converting into a good NFL TE. I was just floating it out there because he is a player with intriguing size and athletic measurable's but doesn't seem to be successful in his current position. They converted Alex Silvestro a few years back and he had decent success.

Slut Machine....Ooops...Slot Machine....:)

Not picking on Bob, just having fun. He's actually a good dude.

I'm thinking that while I understand your intent for proposing the question due to the fact that Bequette has played TE in high school, we probably don't have enough information to go on at the moment.

It's hard to try and make any kind of judgement on the matter for me, but I would assume that if Belichick and company wanted to give him a shot, they'd probably have done it by now.

By the way, do we have a clear cut winning opinion on whether or not Bequette is PS eligible or not? I know there was some confusion due to the fact that he was a multi-year player who hadn't been active in more than 8 games. If he's not PS eligible, I'm guessing that we may have seen the last of him this summer.

Lots of good dudes around here. I enjoy people who make me laugh. Not many too full of themselves...
