For a couple of years Fitzgerald trade rumors have been fan-made up trades that make sense, but we're wishful thinking at best. Now, Schefter makes all pats fans heads spin.

. @AdamSchefter: A trade for Cards WR Larry Fitzgerald will be in play this off-season, in likely event a deal not completed before Tuesday’s trade deadline.

If BB wants to give Brady his 2nd stud WR of his career this offseason it's possible.... (if he agreed to restructure)

I can, honestly, see this happening. And here is why:

* Brady has 3-4 good years left in him at most. This team needs to be in WIN NOW mode, and adding Fitz could very well put this team over the top.

* Since 2010, this team has been restocked with young talent on both sides of the ball. Players like Dobson, Thompkins and Amendola represent the future, while players like Talib represent the now. It's a balance that must be struck, but there is enough young players on this team where the focus can now be turned towards acquiring veterans.

* We've seen how fragile this team is without consistent playmakers. Fitz would solve that.

This is the last thing this board needed before trade deadline. Dont get why Schefter would say that. It's not the trade compensation that is the problem it's the damn cap complexities given his cap number/ hit team would take. No capologist but last i checked that made the trade impossible.

Nice dream but not happening.

P.S. I would love to be wrong.

Nice to have fun with these trade rumors, like fantasy football. However what is the cost in draft picks, players , and what is the cap hit.

Only after that is clear would this Patriots fan head spin. You don't sell the ranch for one stallion.

He is signed through 2018 under the richest contract in Cardinals history (8 year, $128.5 million with a $50 million guarantee). The idea of a trade was shot down right before free agency due to a $15 million dead money hit for the Cardinals.

I would love to see him in a Pats uniform, but he will likely cost more than Brady to get him here. He would have to eat a Moss-like, Patriots-favorable deal ($4.75 million) to get him to the Pats. Unlike Moss, Fitzgerald is not a player the team is looking to unload.

Amendola and a 1 for Fitz.

Cards get a player with a long contract and a first round pick, the patriots get a reciever who can still potentially be great.

Wishful thinking, but that's all it'll ever remain.

They needed to be in WIN NOW mode this year too. Yet they left our aging HOF QB with a cast of rag tag jag's. Unless Brady actually speaks up (like after the 2006 season), Bill's philosophy isn't going to change. Even though it sucks a heavy one.

Also, even if this did somehow happen, Fitz will be 31 next season and he's NOT Randy Moss (who is?). I've seen a bunch of Cards games this season and he's not the dominating force he once was.

THAT SAID..

I'd take him over the scrubs we have now in a hot second.

Just the slight hope of Fitzgerald in a Pats uniform gives me goosebumps. Hopefully he would take less money in the hopes of getting a shot at a ring.

True, nobody is Moss. However, Larry is on pace to be a top 10 WR all time in receptions, yards, and TDs. He's on his way to Canton.

Trouble is, Josh McDaniels will find a way to ruin him. <cough>

Yep, if the FO was concerned about winning now, and their aging QB they won't have jettisoned the entire receiving corp and replaced them with rookies, and new (to TB and the System)Wide outs

Lloyd was not coming back and WWW has been gone though over and over. They gambled on that.

As frustrated as we are about this year I dont think THIS is what they wanted. They wanted Sanders (albeit either diddnt pursue hard enough or were going to overpay), got Jones and Jenkins as vet presence and figured DA would finally shake the injury bug when they signed him in March. This is all while we assumed AH and Gronk were coming back and one of the FA signings would pan out.

So with Gronk, AH and DA always on the field (and getting lots of balls) that meant we really only needed 2 other guys to perform. Plus our running game was surging and Vareen was becoming a player.

So while we ended up with what we have now I think the FO had the right idea. Plus, I was hoping they would have put more resources into the sieve D we have had the last couple of years. They did and the results were great until the superstar D players went down.

I think they are still in win now mode. They are spending to the cap with emergency reserves.

Exactly!! McDaniels absolutely ruined Moss and Welker in 2007. How could he not do the same to Fitzgerald.

The problem with "Win now and worry about the future later" is that win or lose, the bills always come due.

Just look at the Cowboys, who are currently $30M over the cap for next year.

I do agree with you that a number of things (Jones's heart problems, AH being a psychopath, Vereen getting injured) were hard to predict. However, I do believe that the FO should have had a bit more foresight in regards to DA. I think he's a really good player when on the field, but for the FO to presume that he'd be able to shake the injury bug, feels to me like a fairly large gamble. I don't think it's utterly baseless, but it's still a bigger risk than I think the FO should have taken.
