Rumor: MJD to be traded to the Pats?

How so? MJD is more of a bruiser and Leon is a speedster who is primarily a kickoff returner at this point. Not sure MJD has ever returned kickoffs or at least not in the past 5 years.

I mean it only in the sense of "Washington has given the team (only slightly more than) nothing so far."

I think that IF such a trade were to happen (I don't think it does), it would primarily be a sign that the Pats have given up on Washington.

Adam Schefter tweeted his trade ideas this morning. Concerning the Patriots, he came up with the following:

" Giants DT Linval Joseph to the Patriots for a third-round pick: As much as the Giants would like to keep Joseph, he also is scheduled to become a free agent after this season. The Giants could trade Joseph to the Patriots, then still try to re-sign him if they want him back badly enough. New England could use Joseph to help replace Vince Wilfork, who is out for the season with a torn Achilles.

Kontra likey.

All the no's are completely mind boggling.

MJD is on one of the worst offenses in NFL history. Blaine Gabbert is playing worse than Jamarcus Russell and on par with Ryan Leaf.

From 2009-2012 this kid was the 2nd best RB in the league behind Adrian Peterson.

If BB feels he still has 2-3 seasons left in him at 28, this would be a game changing move. IN BB we trust if it happens.

MJD for Bequette? Hahahahahaha!!!! If MJD were in a coffin, the Jags would still be getting screwed on that one.

Oh, I guess that makes sense. If Jags are willingly to give him up for a 6th or 7th I mean I'd guess I'd take him. Is the jags line pretty bad or is MJD declining is what I'd like to know. Passing game isn't exactly opening things up for him. All this assuming that his cap hit doesn't hinder us going into next season (I don't fully understand how salary cap space rolls into the following season).

You probably haven't watched a Jags game since last Christmas. The wheels are coming off for Jones-Drew. He's not the player he used to be.

The obvious plan is Pats sign Tebow and trade him for MJD.

His backup is averaging 2.8ypc for what it's worth. I'll take your word since your watching the games, but it might be hard to establish a rhythm when your team is losing on average 21ppg.

Another interesting tidbit from a Jags reporter:

Jaguars need to start keeping Maurice Jones-Drew on field for 3rd down. He hasn't allowed a QB pressure all season

Brady is getting killed out there.

Joseph has been my top trade candidate for a while, but if the Pats were giving up a third then I'd want them to work out an extension as part of that.

As for MJD, I'd be fine with the Pats trading for him as long as it's for something like a 6th and the Jags redo his contract so they pay most of his salary this year.

If there's any validity to this, would be a waste of a pick IMO. If you're mortgaging the future, do it for a real need like DT/LB/interior OL

A 4th rounder + Whipped Cream Bequette isn't "mortgaging the future".

I'll never forget MJD destroying Merriman on the goal line. Maybe that's our answer to interior pressure. Put MJD on Geno Atkins and Big Mo. :D

I wouldn't lose any sleep over trading Bequette and a 5th or beyond for MJD, and it wouldn't really hamper our chances to make a move for a DT like some are hoping for. MJD's cap hit for this season is just under 7 mil. We do have that space, though his value at that number is certainly debatable.

With trades, the question for the acquiring team is not the cap hit. The question is how much money is still owed to the player.

For example, MJD's cap hit is almost $7M, but if the Patriots were to get him, it would only cost them 9/17 of his 2013 salary, or $2.6M. [The already-paid 8/17 would remain on the Jags' cap.]

Not surprisingly, players who are rumored available in trade tend to have issues. Would MJD be an upgrade to Ridley? It depends on how much of his 'decline' is real and how much is the increasing suck of the rest of that Jaguars team. Would MJD be an upgrade to Bolden? I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't. I can't really add him to the "trade for him!" list, though, if the asking price is as high as the rumor claims, because that 4th round pick is still needed for Gonzalez. ;)

The Pats are getting Vereen back in two games. I don't see the need for MJD.

Besides, MJD seems to have hit the wall in terms of production and health. This isn't the MJD of 2011. Maybe if the Jags will take a 6th for him that could be a conditional 4th or 5th, but otherwise he is not worth anything in a trade right now.

Unfortunately, at this point we don't even know if he is an upgrade to Bolden. And Bolden is moving down the depth chart after the bye when Vereen gets back and takes the role that MJD would take.

I think this is yet another case of teams using the Pats to generate interest/increase trade offers from other teams and/or the Pats making a due diligence call without any real serious interest.

High Mileage prefer to stay away. OL or DL or TE or WR I will listen but RB wise Im all set.

Drew's 2013 salary is $4.95M plus expenses. The patriots may or may not be interested. Is Drew an upgrade to the running back who he would likely replace? Sure! Is he worth the pick and cap money? Maybe.

Folks here are sure Vereen will be as good as Drew when he walks in the door for Game 11. Maybe, and maybe not. Perhaps, Belichick is focused on Games 9 and 10 in addition to having another threat for the rest of the year.

I'm not sure why any fan would say no.
I serioulsy doubt he could be competitive with Ridley for playing time.
I would expect that he is an upgrade over Bolden in spread pacakges.
I would doubt he took snaps away from Vereen.
I would expect he would compete with Blount for his role.
I would expect he would be the best KR we currently have active.
I'd be happy if he sits for a month inactive if we have another injury that makes him needed.
I don't see the downside.

unless MJD made the change to DT and gained 100 pounds I dont see the need.
