If we get past Atlanta, should fans be talking about "it"?

Brilliant post, kill the edit :)
In a way we pitty NE fans. So many SB's, so much success.
We went threw a microcosm of it. 43 years, emotions I expressed here, and the win. Later it made us expect more, for no reason, and be disappointed, when in the past we would have understood. We kind of lost our innocence, and then the media came.
Before we knew it, we were defending everything and lost what we really loved.

This has a lot of truth in it. The decade of excellence without a SB win seems to have caused us to get defensive and enjoy it less. The bar is so high now that we don't find happiness in rooting for the team nearly as easily, and seem much more quick to get negative about players.

I couldn't stop the thought. It came.

I think about "it" all the time. Walking down the street...looking through a Victoria's Secret window...watching Cinemax.
PS......do the Pats play this weekend?

IMO, this is the dividing line between old school and post 2000 fans.

I actually don't know what this thread is about, but i was thinking this.

Jim Mora Playoffs! - YouTube

By the way, it wasn't that long ago a poster (Thomas?) over Patriots Planet had a hilarious gimmick where he would give logical reasons to overlook the next opponent, even if it was the Super Bowl.

If he did that on most forums now, 50% of posters would be clueless.

One game at a time, that's how all this got done.

I don't see what beating the Falcons has to do with "it." :D

You know what what I'm talking about, and I'm only bringing this up as a pre-emptive in case it does happen before the talk can really start.

Should we? Is there more pressure? Or should we never mention it by name? Pretend it's no big deal, we forgot? Just ignore it? I mean we can think it, but should we say it?

What's the proper way of handling that in terms of football fan superstition in order not to upset the football Gods? Should we just handle any talk about that as "no big deal, done it before, we just want a ring"?

Just brush it off the shoulder? Or do we confidently go out and buy bottles of shampagne and ride the train until it crashes if it crashes? Pop a cork every Sunday kind of deal?

I don't know how I should feel about this and starting to fall apart. I need a Snickers.

Edit: Or maybe we should pull for the Giants to go 0-16 instead? Pop two corks? Cause, I mean, right now that's a possibility too...they got beat the Carolina 38-0. That would make up for it a little bit.

we are about to go thru a difficult stretch so no, i dont think it is feasable. Talk to me once we are past Denver

You're clearly thinking about it already, soooo...there's that.

no reason why you shouldnt be, its a game, and fun. Love the hope im seeing

Thanks, I'm sure you guys would be thinking the same thing if the patriots weren't on your schedule right? ;)

No I don't think so, if we make it past Denver on 11/24/13 unbeaten I'd entertain the subject, but Atlanta is 1-2 with a lot of key injuries so yes it will be nice win going on the road and beating a top NFC team in 2012 I don't think it will be a game we can look at as a indication that this team is capable of a undefeated season.

I luv Pats chances everytime TB takes a snap and who ever "Name That Offense" is with him. We are ALWAYS in "IT" around "IT" next to "IT" not gonna change "IT" now.

I think about it every year.

IMO, Brady/Gronk/Amendola on the field at the same time with our new defense can beat any team in the league. As dumb and near impossible as it is, as long as we have a donut in the loss column, I will dream of a 19-0 redemption season.

As fans, what's the big deal if we think about it? Brady + a real defense, you got to believe.

This team isn't going 16-0, so any talk is kind of pointless in my opinion. I misunderstood the OP and thought he was talking about going to the SB; and even that is way too early to put much stock into. We got off to the start that most of us expected with wins against BUF, NYJ, and TB. Nothing more.

I think the question is in regards to a perfect season, which is utterly ridiculous in my opinion (no disrespect to the OP).

For the record I don't think applies to this season at all because I personally view at least the first half of this season as a transition period as we rebuild the receiving corp. and deal with the unforeseen Hernandez situation. My opening disclaimer aside I would like to ask the question do you think the unbeaten season is still something Belichick has as a goal? Although he never said it or acknowledged it I felt like in 2007 (granted I had limited coverage overseas) Belichick really wanted the unbeaten season and did everything he could do to achieve it, but I wonder if seeing the toll that chase had on the team and how it led to their undoing if Bill no longer views 19-0 as something worthwhile.

I'm primarily focused on capturing AFC East and making it to the playoffs. A lot of tough games are ahead of us, including the one tomorrow (Even with their injuries). I won't say ITS name, but call me back if we ever reach 13-0 (we'd have to survive Broncos and travel to Houston), then I might believe.

Now, I'm being realistic here... and I swear I'm not being negative, but I'm not sure the rookies could handle the pressure, the inflated ego of being you know what, causing them to make more mistakes than if they had been humbled by at least one loss in regular season.

I hope I'm wrong, though. I believe in this team. I believe in anyone who puts on these jerseys. Just win, y'all!

The goal in life is to win. - Tom Brady.

He said it!

I sense feelings of being unsure in you too. When you say you "don't buy it"....it feels like shaky acknowledgment that it exists.

Being delusionally hopeful is part of being a fan :D

Why do people still give a **** about this?

I LOVE you, Ramsey.

Phew and here I thought I was really alone.

Come on 2007...Brady to Moss....I mean that was mainly the force behind it and some additional motivation.

KT, Dobson and Gronk....just seems more potent to me. If only we can win the growing pain ones.

I don't know about you, but I pray and hope for 23-0 every year. When we lose a preseason game it's 19-0.

I don't buy the 'burden of being perfect' or the idea that you should lose a few times to get it out of your system.

Same here. Except I don't care about pre-seasn

By "it" you're alluding to resigning Randy Moss right?

In that case the obvious answer is yes.

This team can be very potent, but its so hard to win every football game in the NFL. If this team stays healthy along with KT and Dobson continuing to improve, we could have a shot at a really impressive regular season record. But it comes down to the playoffs if we reach it. I would rather be 3-0 or 4-0 in the playoffs.
