As a Broncos fan, I'm certainly pleased. :D

Quick hits:

--Our running game will only be decent once our passing game is established. Eventually Montee Ball could be a threat, but for now, Knowshon is reliable for a few yards and Hillman is dangerous in open space--but neither of them are great RBs.

--The fact that we don't have a great RB seems like it could be irrelevant. Baltimore's defense looked awful tonight, don't get me wrong, but I think at worst they're an AVERAGE defense. There are definitely worse defenses than them, which is scary

--I've been a huge fan of Julius Thomas for a while. He's still kind of a project, but he's got a ton of potential and you can see why. Team's will now have to account for him, but there's only so much you can do against someone that physical, big and athletic. The best part about him? He's an EXCELLENT pass blocker.

--When was the last time (has it ever happened before?) that 3 WR had 2 TDs in a game?

--Peyton's arm strength: I don't think it's much worse than last year. Remember, he looked like crap from an arm strength perspective all year. It matters, but only so much; a smart QB knows his strengths and weaknesses and adjusts for them. Peyton does just that. I have no doubt it'll cost him a few INTs during the season, but if he plays like he did tonight we'll be just fine.

--Our defense will be fine. Baltimore's O also sucks, but the run D looked fantastic (way better than expected) and while our pass rush wasn't great, it looks like we can figure it out without Von for now. When he's back (and when Champ is healthy) our D could very well be top 10 in the league again.

--Ultimately, all that matters is the Super Bowl, but as I'm sure you all know quite well, it makes the next few months a lot more enjoyable when your team can put up performances like that.

Can't wait to be at Gillette wearing my Wes Welker Pats jersey in a few months! ;)

Congrats to a great team. Julian Thomas looked like a find, as well as your new slot receiver.

Ray Lewis just said the lightning delay was an intentional act on the part of the NFL to disrupt/disable the Ravens mojo.......or he said.......Carl Everett was right that man never made it to the moon.......I wasn't sure because he was ramming his head into his coffee maker during the interview in his home so it was partially distorted

Get ready to hear the never ending. This is why the broncos are SB favorites

Who cares…. At the end of the day, when Payton chokes in the playoffs again, after being nominated as the favorite to take it all….. I’ll be sitting here, licking my chops.

Dude, it begin last night with a article at EsPN front page
NFL Peyton Manning is super, man - ESPN

You can write it down now: The Broncos will be playing in this year's Super Bowl. That's obvious because they just whipped the Ravens without even having a team that was functioning at its best

It shouldn't bother me, but goddamn it no words can explain this Manning love fest.

A article in the NFL site also suggest that these Broncos can be better then that once in a lifetime team 07 Patriots

It is a Jeffrey Chahida piece. Hence it should be immediately ignored.

Funny how Peyton was awful in the first half and elevated his game to solid/good in the second half perfectly coincided with the rain stopping.

"It's just Brady trolls that actually think Peyton can't play in poor weather"

Game thoughts because I am bored. Disclaimer: This is the first game and observations from the first week of the season can be very deceiving and not what ends up happening for the season:

  • All those "the Pats should have drafted Torrey Smith" should have seen why they were smart not to last night. The guy is a tease and nothing more. Some flashes of elite WR and mostly being average at best being shut down by Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
  • I never got the love for the Ravens' moves in the offseason. I think based on Newsome's record, they acted like every move was a huge upgrade. Michael Huff went from huge bust to a safety with a lot of potential. Middle of the road guys like Marcus Spears and Chris Canty became superstars. I think Newsome did the best he could with the situation he had, but collecting a bunch of names on defense rarely works.
  • Can we stop the Flacco is elite talk? He is just a second tier QB. He is good, but he cannot make a horrible receiving corp look decent like Brady or Manning could.
  • Time to retire Dallas Clark. And you can take Brandon Stokely and Ed ****son with you. Clark statistically had a decent night, but he was awful.
  • Welker was a great addition to the Broncos last night, but the real difference maker was Julius Thomas. I think Welker just syphoned off catches away from Decker and Demaryus Thomas. Julius Thomas added the additional demension to the Broncos offense.
  • Welker was very good last night, but we did see why Belichick might have soured on him. He still drops the ball more than he did when he is younger. Didn't hurt them last night (although it should have more if Harbaugh pulled his head out of his arse and threw the flag). Could in future games.
  • The Broncos defense was better than I expected, but I think last night was a bit of a mirage. Caldwell's play calling is way predictable and the Broncos could pin their ears back and rush Flacco since they didn't have worry about his receivers catching passes.
  • Manning will be elite for a few more years because of his smarts, but they gotta be concern about his arm strength. No matter what the media say, his arm strength is even worse than last year. If he is throwing so many ducks in early September, how will his arm be in January?
  • The Broncos are still following the same trend they had last year. In games, they come out flat in the first half and let teams hang around and turn it on in the second half. It isn't going to hurt them against bad and average teams, it could hurt them against good teams. I don't think the Ravens are a good team. The Broncos are very average in the first half and elite in the second half.
  • The lack of a running game still gotta concern the Broncos. They had 65 total rushing yards and a 2.8 YPC average. And they went three and out trying to kill the clock on the ground.
  • I think the Ravens just quit after the TD that should never had happened because Welker let the ball hit the carpet on the third down conversion. I think it made last night's results look deceiving. The Ravens aren't as bad as they looked and the Broncos aren't as good as they looked.

You're going to experience the same problem the Patriots had for the past couple years. When you really need to run the ball, against quality defenses, the running game will fall apart. You'll grow one dimensional and the QB will have too much of a burden to carry.
--The fact that we don't have a great RB seems like it could be irrelevant. Baltimore's defense looked awful tonight, don't get me wrong, but I think at worst they're an AVERAGE defense. There are definitely worse defenses than them, which is scary
When you let guys walk into the endzone uncovered 3 times, you're not an average defense. They'll get better as the season goes but at this point they are just a plain awful defense.
--I've been a huge fan of Julius Thomas for a while. He's still kind of a project, but he's got a ton of potential and you can see why. Looked like a stud
--When was the last time (has it ever happened before?) that 3 WR had 2 TDs in a game?
No idea

He got away with quite a few floaters.

If you think the run d looked better than expected, you're going to have a disappointing season.

January? Peyton Manning? I'm sure his golf game will be just fine. :)

First time posting in the thread. Sorry I can't read 86 pages.

I thought Peyton looked great. He has a whole fleet of weapons. This MAY even be better than what he had in Indy. Don't get me wrong, I have a huge amount of respect for Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, and Clark used to be decent, but J Thomas, D Thomas, Welker and Decker are probably giving him a lot more room to throw than he had in Indy.

That being said, Peyton threw a TD in the 4th to go up 42-17, then another TD with 5 minutes left. I absolutely do not blame him for doing so. I think you need to do this.

But I haven't hard anyone in the media talk about Manning running up the score. Brady used to get pulled in the 3rd qtr. in 2007 with the game at 51-17 and people would complain about his throwing TDs in the 3rd qtr.

Where's the outrage now?

The last touchdown was on a bubble screen that went 78 yards, when the score was 42-27. How's that running up the score?

same for me, first post in this thread... gees mannning looked good as the game went on. Yes he wasn't doing well in the first but the O took off. im sure even if you take away the Drop that welker had when the ball hit the ground that they still would have scored points regardless.... But you can always rely on the media to blow things out of proportion... manning is going for the 2007 patriots, they're going undefeated, j thomas is next coming of gronk.... All after just 60 mins of football....This team is not to be taken lightly but lets wait until at least november to see how they hold up against more refined teams that have a solid O and D. Bmore got decimated on both sides of the ball in the off season so tearing them apart was expected to a certain degree. BMore to me has officially lost its reign of scaring offenses because well there's no one there to bring down the axe like years past.

It's not. Did you even read my post?

Yes, I did. That's why I asked my question. You're crying about a lack of outrage while you're arguing apples and oranges.

There's no outrage because there was no running up of the score.

I completely agree.

but, I think we'll see the national media fawning all over Peyton this morning where, there would be the same level of applause with Brady and a few people complaining (because it's the Patriots).

I did see the Broncos try a few runs into the end zone and many of the TDs were of longer distance, so I'm not complaining that they only scored 7 TDs (all of which were passes). And I didn't watch the game religiously.

So no blaming the Broncos for this, blame the Ravens who believed the hype too much and have a fairly mediocre defense.

I stopped watching in the third.

The game turned into a blowout.

The ravens offense is abysmal, their defense is mediocre, I don't think they even make the playoffs this year.

Very astute post - almost "liked" it until I saw the last line! Lol.

Donkeys are very good, Ravens look very mediocre.
