First and foremost, I want to thank the New England Patriots for everything they have done for me. I have nothing but love in my heart as I depart this great organization. Mr. Kraft, the coaches, the strength staff, the trainers, the media personnel, the marketing department, the rest of the amazing staff members at Gillette, and especially my teammates…THANK YOU for all that you have given and have done for me. I want to say that I see the silver lining in things now more than ever, and am a true believer that things DO happen for a reason. This goes out to anyone that will ever come across a mere bump in the road; be thankful, be positive, because there’s a deeper purpose of WHY things happen that we may not yet, or may never come to understand. Just believe. I will miss New England, and more than anything, I’ll be missing the smiles on those kids whom I visited and acted like a goofball in front of. It was ALL worth it. God bless.
I constantly remind myself all the time to avoid falling in love with individual players. With Mesko, I failed miserably. Good luck to a seemingly great guy.

You beat me by 2 minutes - - I posted the same thing (just edited it out). -I'm sure Ryan Allen has a very strong leg and is a cost savings to the team. But my heart is very heavy right now too.

First words out of my mouth were... WOW! As much as I liked Mesko and do agree that he was more accurate than Allen, you can teach accuracy, you can't teach leg strength which Allen has over Mesko.

Is he the best punter we have ever released?

I just hope it doesn't effect holding on field goals.

McCourty in a contract year? If he plays safety well this year, he can hold the team hostage. I don't care what Belichick's cap for safety is. McCourty can demand a 20% premium.

McCourty is signed through 2014, so this isn't his contract year.

Equally importantly, CB >> S as far as franchise tags go, so the worst case scenario is the Pats franchise him in 2015.

Hopefully he doesn't land on the Jets, Ravens or another hated team.

No, you can't teach it, but you can build it.

I will miss our punter. I can't believe I just typed that. Mesko was cool, and I remember some of the hideous punters from years ago. I am sure this was a money thing, he'll be picked up somewhere else. Slightly bummed about this one.

The Ravens have Sam Koch don;t know about the Jest.
I don't know if he is good enough to make the Jets as a punter, but he's probably good enough to make it there as a QB.

The competition was fierce, I am surprised not going with a known vs rookie. But then we don't see everything the coaches see on and off the field. Mesko won't be unemployed long some team will grab him. Good luck to him.

BTW I think Mesko earned a separate thread after what he delivered for the Pats, Tebow got one he produced zero.

Wow...Allen actually beat him.

Who saw this coming....

Wow this one I didn't expect. All I can say is thanks for everything you've done for the Patriots, Zoltan. He won't be without a job for long. Wish him all the best!

Was Tupa released or did he walk in FA, I can't remember, eyes too blurry with Tebow Tears to google it.

I agree which is what's intriguing about Allen. Mesko probably reached his ceiling going into his 4th NFL season. I can also see this move happening to replace Mesko with a talent like Allen now instead of waiting to see if there was someone else like this when Mesko's contract was up. If not they would have to pay Mesko more so it's forward thinking saving the Pats more $ in the long run over the cap savings now.

Allen never would've cleared waivers.

Why am I getting all choked up about a ******* punter?!?

Add me to the list as hating this move. You'll be missed Zoltan.

Purely a money move. Sadly the kicker who needed to go is still here.
