not a big shocker, seeing the new kids perform well in the preseason game, and having them be pretty much gangbusters in this joint practices has really put a lot of hope into a magical season for the pats.

In this case it's good news because it suggests that the coaching staff has confidence in the young guns, thereby obviating the need to rely on a marginal (at best) talent like Molasses Mike.

With Burress being out for the season, Mr. Jenkins might want to give the Steelers a call. Perhaps he could compete for their WR4/WR5 spots, depending on how their STs are currently set up.

It ruins every thread he participates in.

Jenkins and the other veterans were low level insurance policies in case the young 'uns couldn't play. We'd have struggled with Jenkins as a starter but at least we could have put him on the field and gotten a below average but playable performance.

Thankfully that isn't needed anymore.

From all of the training camp reports I have seen the news of Jenkins' release is not the least bit surprising. He has shown less than what was expected/hoped for, while at the same time others (specifically Thompkins) have shown more.


When Jenkins was signed I considered it to be a calculated move by the Pats to get bigger and more physical at the position, to get WRs that would be able to go up and get the ball, and be able to more effectively compete against physical defenders that the Pats have seen (e.g., 49ers, Seahawks, Ravens) in the recent past, as opposed to relying so much on the quick, shifty types (Branch, Welker).


The Jenkins' signing was a zero-risk move by the Patriots. Jenkins received no signing bonus and just a $15,000 workout bonus. Once it was apparent that there were other better options (Dobson, Thompkins, Boyce, and TE Sudfeld) in the passing game his services were obviously no longer needed. The roster move says more about the progression of the rookies than it does about Jenkins.

Although Jenkins hasn't done much if anything to justify a roster spot, I agree this is more of a statement on how fast Dobson, Thompkins, and even Boyce have picked up the offense than on how bad Jenkins has been in practice. Dobson and Thompkins have jumped ahead of him in the #2 WR receiver role.
