It depends. On the one hand, I would take Welker over Harvin because he's a proven commodity in New England's offense. On the other hand, Harvin turns twenty-five in May while Welker turns thirty-one in the same month. I reckon it's about bang for your buck. Who gives you the most for your spending dollars?

Harvin, who is set to be a free agent after the 2013 season, is itching for a new deal now. And if the Vikings don't give Harvin an extension this offseason, it's believed he may hold out just like Vincent Jackson did with San Diego in 2010, according to a team source.

The Vikings fear that the strong-willed Harvin may play the absolute minimum required to get to free agency and that he'll create such a stink that the last thing the Vikings will consider is franchising him. Moreover, this is not as simple as giving Harvin a contract in line with what Jackson received a year ago (five years, $55.55 million) from Tampa Bay or what Dwayne Bowe got last week (five years, $56 million) from Kansas City.

While the Vikings and Harvin's agent, Joel Segal, have yet to exchange contract proposals, it's believed that Harvin wants money closer to what Calvin Johnson got from Detroit in 2012 (eight years, $132 million) than to Jackson or Bowe. That's an average of $16.5 million per year compared to a little more than $11 million for Jackson and Bowe. As one person put it about Harvin, he considers himself a "special" player and executives around the league have fed that attitude by telling people close to him how difficult it is to cover Harvin.

While Harvin has never reached 1,000 yards receiving or exceeded six receiving touchdowns in a season, he's a unique player with great quickness and speed. He's one of the league's best run-after-the-catch players (he averaged 8.9 yards after the catch last season) and has scored five touchdowns on kickoff returns in his four seasons. He has also been effectively used as a running back. In four seasons, he has carried the ball 107 times for 683 yards and four touchdowns.

As rumors of Harvin being on the trade block have surfaced this offseason, numerous teams have been linked to him, including New England and San Francisco.

Harvin is a head case with migraine issues and is generally injury prone so asking for CJ like money is beyond stupidity.

So on that alone, despite his supposed demands being overly high too, I'd have Welker in this case.

This little tidbit tells me Harvin could never be a Pat. I laugh every time a Pats fan rolls out the " bring Harvin in " rant.:p

i am heavily inclined to agree--very heavily

pay the one that's going to play a full season

Welker. He has production and isn't looking for something I'd term stupid.

people still point to his migraine issues? haha

Minnesota's also pursuing Mike Wallace. Regardless, like Revis, Harvin will be traded this off-season.

if we are talking for the pats its hands down Welker he is Brady's go to guy, Harvin is a mid level WR that has no history with Brady so he will not do much better then Lloyd if he can stay on the field

Wonderful.... Curran is reporting that Welker is asking for StarScream money!

Doubt it.. Takes two to tango and trade

he can ask for but i dont see him geting Bowe money i think he will have a small market maybe 3 or 4 teams other then the pats looking to sign him, will they offer more then the pats most likely but not much more

I think if Welker knows what's good for him, he'll think better of the situation and re-sign and stop toying with the idea of testing free agency. Who's he fooling...? It's called bluffing. Brady should pull him aside and say to him to cut the nonsense or BS out.

Raise your hand if you're buying any of this haggling by both parties in the media? See, no one... So, please give the fans a break and do what you need to do and move on. I'm talking to both sides.

Where is the option for neither?...(assuming Welker wants to get double digit Millions)

I wouldn't be surprised if Welker and the Patriots already have an agreement in place that they match the best offer he gets somewhere else.

The media are on Welker watch and its letting them work behind the scenes on other FA signings.

Percy is very good. But, he wants Megatron $$$.

Probably not a Patriots option....

This Welker thing is getting a bit old. If Welker truly is testing the waters, and wait too long, Patriots may just take the offer off the table, and pursue someone else. Patriots have lots of needs and cannot wait....
