Toucher to Brady: 'Screw you'

Not open for further replies.
Toucher has become successful he got his own post on PatsFans.com... and maybe a few more twitter followers.

The press has been trying real hard to make what Brady did as some form of nontroversy.. it is not working, epic fail may be more appropo.

None of them are exempt and they all follow along.. and all seem to want this to be something it is not.. how can 57 million guaranteed be a sacrifice??? That does not compute.

Fred Toucher is a Jets fan. He is also on 98.5. Do you think he is going to respond well to Brady sending a letter to WEEI telling them he just wants to win?

Even then, this is taken a bit out of context since he is responding to a question that asked him if he was another player or the NFLPA, how would you respond to Brady.

No.

Here is the interesting thing from the article attributed to the pale schlub:

"Oh, because you happen to be in this very rare situation where you have a wife who makes [multi-millions], where you have a house with a moat around it, where you're building a castle in Brookline? Such a man of the people. Screw you.
"People need to make the money. [NFL players] have a short window to make that money. I don't like it . . . If I know some guy comes in the market to do radio for cheap money, screw you. You're hurting the market.
"And not everyone lives in that bubble. What a ridiculous thing to say. Get mad at me, I don't give a . . . He's good at playing quarterback. He's probably the best quarterback of all time. [But that's] a crap populist message from some guy that's living a royalty lifestyle."

Everyone can have an opinion - - nothing wrong with that. And yes, he may have been imitating an athlete - - however, his responsibility then is to add what was FACTUALLY INCORRECT about what the athlete would be saying.

If you are on radio in Boston, you should be entitled to your own opinions, but you should NOT be entitled to your own facts. Someone should tell the loser that Brady did the very same discount thing for the team in 2005 - - before he ever met his wife.

He may as well have claimed that Belichick secretly taped the Rams' practices before SB 36.

So to Mr. Toucher, SCREW YOU - - you are nothing more than a peddler of misinformation. There are other places to get INFORMED opinions.

This is absolutely correct. Fred puts sports into perspective, which I think this town needs.

If you did not see the interview the question was " If you were a NFL player what your response be to Brady?"

Toucher was not to far off how I would feel about it. Think about it a person is taken less money which in turn might lower the contract offer you will get. If your in a union that will upset a lot of the members. Everyone is looking to make as much cash as possible and then a member of your union takes a contract below his pay grade. And if I was an NFL player I would say "screw you" as well if my next deal was less money because of what he did.

Because the athletes that he is imitating are so concerned about facts?

The thing is I don't think Toucher is wrong. I am sure there are some other NFL QB that are thinking those thoughts or something fairly close to that. The majority of people think that Brady cut the Patriots a deal that helps the team win. 99% of this fan base agrees with that. Don't you think that puts pressure on some other QBs with large cap numbers to take similar cuts? Do you think there aren't some players that might be pissed off that this deal makes them look bad?

On the other hand, if Brady (or any 'franchise' level QB) signs for the most money possible, a team can say, "We'd love to offer you more, but we're close to the salary cap. Here's what we think is a reasonable offer."

A savvy player or agent could look at the Brady contract and tell the team they know the Patriots have room under the cap, so use that money to sign me/my client.

OK. Never heard of him. Now I know why.

In that case you and that mythical foorball player should Google the term "salary cap".

.....and then complain to the NFLPA.

The only people who should be pissed are QB's looking for big paydays. If I were Brady, I would get a restraining order against Joe Flacco immediately.

Only stinking sewage like Toucher would respond to Brady's astonishingly awesome act like that.

What a bitter little man.

Tom Brady is far from perfect, but as a FootBall Player and as a man, he is an Inspiration.

How many of us would have the guts to walk away from $30,000,000 ~ give or take a few Million!! ~ for the express purpose of giving himself, his 60 or so TeamMates, his Coaches, his Team's Owner, and his Team's millions of Fans a substantially better chance of attaining Championship Glory...and perhaps unprecedented Immortality??

There's no way ~ even for demented Vermin like Toucher ~ to spin this.

It's pretty freaking crystal clear, yes??

Tom Brady is The Man.

You and Toucher ARE wrong.

Brady doesn't have to get tackled by other QB's.

What does he care?

In fact, I'm willing to bet that the players who ACTUALLY FACE HIM on the field probably LOVE him for this - - if QB's start following suit maybe the cap strategies will be freed up more for DT's, LB's, etc.

The only people Brady should fear retribution from are guys who punch like Richard Simmons.

The logic here, and that Toucher used, is tremendously flawed as those with your line of thinking are missing a huge key point:

The NFL has a salary cap.

Collectively, the players in the NFL will be paid a fixed amount.

The more allocated to the upper tier guys like Brady, Brees, Manning, the LESS can be spent on everyone else in the league.

So, quite frankly, the argument that what Brady makes affects the league - if anything - is completely ass-backwards. The more QBs take from the fixed pie, the less the rest do.

There is no contract that Tom Brady can sign that will change the amount of money that NFL players are paid collectively. All he can do is drive up revenue, and I'm guessing no two players have done much more for the NFL's popularity - and therefore, revenue - in history than Brady or Manning. The cap has damn near doubled in their time in the NFL, so no, I don't think fellow players should say "screw you" to the guy. The amount of $$ in the pie that the players take from has grown tremendously as a result of his play.

Tom Brady played his role and helped & supported the players in getting as much of that pie as they could. Beyond that, all he's setting the bar for is his fellow quarterbacks, and he's already done that. He has no further obligation to raise the bar for QBs. And even if he did, I don't see why Fred Toucher or any other person would be that concerned about how Tom Brady's contract might - and it won't - affect Joe Flacco's.

Beyond that, Brady made a direct comparison between how athletes are compensated for their job and how the rest of society is. Acknowledging that athletes are paid an exorbitantly high amount relative to the rest of society will have no bearing on what athletes are paid, as everyone in society is completely aware of this fact, and the high compensation continues for obvious reasons. There is no correlation between what Tom Brady said and what any athlete will make. He did not burst some bubble and reveal some secret truth. He made an honest and accurate statement about athletes vs. the state of society, and a couple people got bent out of shape about it for all the wrong reasons.

Brady shouldn't care, but that wasn't the point. My point was that I don't think Toucher was wrong. I think there are many players that will feel negatively about the deal, QBs and non-QBs alike. Some may well indeed follow the same thought process you did about it resulting in more money for them, but many won't. Those with big cap numbers themselves especially won't.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

The cap is the cap is the cap. Brady just brought down how the league will value QB's against the cap - - but not the cap itself.

The only players this effects are QB's wanting "elite" money.

Too bad.

WEEI....needs to make up some rating points ...so how else than to throw out something controversial...like this. There is a plus and minus to any deal.....short term relief and longer contract....but still in my eyes well worth it...I dont see Brady losing too much...as the focal point of the offense is ...more balanced and the defense ...grows up....

So our #1 QB is a moron? Makes me feel worse. If TFB needs a smart agent to help him keep his hooves out of his mouth, someone PLEASE PM me. This should never have happened.

Brady was naive for thinking that his email wouldn't get out to the public.
