Wow. Thanks, Manx.

That 4th and 10 with a little over one minute to go in regulation! The Vikes had blitzed and pounded Bledsoe three straight times and he was blasted on each. Three incompletions and they were just torturing him. Then on 4th and 10 he cooly steps back, throws off his back foot (I wonder what he could have been with that arm if he had Brady's mechanics) and rifles to Brisby for the first.

Just incredible stuff.

yeah....oh look!...4 and 6 doing their best to get Drew murdered...his best friends on the team...turnstiles....who are 4 and 6?...why Rucci and Lane of course...remember the old NEPats Unofficial board??? The poll was "Ten Worst Things" wrong with the Pats...Rucci and Lane were #4 and #6.

I watch it today and my blood still boils.....Bledsoe calls a running play on 3rd and a half foot...here's the snap...and there's Rucci getting pushed five yards BACK into the backfield...4th and 5 now...rinse , repeat....third down and 10, Drew drops back...and...OH!!!! the DE just picked up Max Lane with ONE ARM and flung him to side..and down goes Drew Bledsoe...down goes Drew Bledsoe... (in Cosell's "down goes Frazier" voice.)

Young Drew at his finest. I was there, my first season as a Patriots season ticket holder. :rocker:

The full game is available. Bledsoe's record setting performance (attempts/completions).

Enjoy.

I love watching old games like this, Thanks Manxman ! Brings back such great memories, I have a ton of Drew Bledsoe rookie cards, thought he was gonna be what Tom Brady became. Hard to believe that was 18 seasons ago.

Todd Collins going out for the season again... wasn't that his last game until 1996? You know, before knee injuries were recovered from in two months like today?

great, thanks
:rocker:

Watching the tying drive. The quick pass to Timpson 2 times in a row was awesome

I have this one recorded great memories. I would love to get a copy of the 1974 match-up between the Pats and Vikings, It had one of the great finishes ever.

Just listen to the difference in the crowd noise.

Yup. We were so starved for offense in those days the crowd didn't know how important it was to shut the hell up when the Pats had the ball.

Great game. That started the playoff run. I may be mistaken but didn't Parcells call himself "The Doug Moe of football" in the post-game presser? I know he said that at one of them during his tenure. (Doug Moe was coach of the NBA's Denver Nuggets back then and was famous for the run and shoot and play no defense philosophy).

One of my favorite games of all time

Bledsoe became the birth of a Patriot legend that day in a role as a never say die QB

I knew for sure at that time the Patriots passing on Rick Mirer the year before was the right move

Brady ended up the superior QB,but many fans like myself enjoyed the Bledsoe to Coates combo more than any other duo to play here including Brady to Welker

amazing that they didnt kick it for the win - tough throw - great game

What made this game even better was that it came on the heels of a 4-game losing streak. The Pats had won 3 in a row after losing two shootouts to Marino and Kelly to open the season. After losing to LA and NY before the bye, they came back after the break and looked like garbage at home vs. Miami, then went to Cleveland where Drew threw 4 picks against Belichick's Browns. Getting down 20-0 to Minnesota was just a continuation of the downward spiral exhibited for several games. Then their fortunes turned. Out of nowhere.

Regards,
Chris

Yeah, I remember I could only sorta watch the game because at the time my family had satellite and well, we could always get Raiders games (*eyeroll). So I was stuck watching this one on a 5 inch B&W screen off the portable TV.

Ahhh, the 1974 game in the old outdoor Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis. THAT was the day I became a Patriots fan.

Was 9 years old watching it on the family 13" black and white set in the den with the orange shag run. The Vikings were the Purple People Eaters. The Patriots were the expansion-AFL team that no one respected.

God Bless You, Bob Windsor, wherever you are.

3-6, down big looking at 3-7....then they didn't lose again until the playoffs. I know it predates Belichick & Brady, but I see that game as a turning point away from the laughingstock Pats of old.

Nice to finally see this game. My BIL and I listened to most of the comeback on a car radio in a chuck-e-cheese parking lot.

An important chapter in his legacy, for sure. But I think his legend started the last game of the prior season when he beat Miami in overtime.
