2013 Senior Bowl: Wednesday Prospect Meetings Report (South Team)

By Charlie Campbell - @draftcampbell

Here is a recap of the player interviews that were conducted on the field after Wednesday's practice by the South team. Typically, these interviews with area scouts are to set up longer, formal interviews for a night during the week. While teams say they "talk" to every player, teams do not take the time to conduct formal interviews with every draft prospect, so this can be a clue as to which players are on their radar.

New England - Alabama long-snapper Carson Tinker

I'm sure Nick Saban would be happy to take that call. This smacks of two second rounders and BB getting the special teamer he most wants.

I'm interested in Fluker. He doesn't really fit our offense but he's also a beast at what he does well and has outstanding length which always seem to be a plus for BB as is the fact he's Saban coached. I wouldn't mock him, but it wouldn't surprise me if BB drafts him, sticks him at OG and gets a cheaper version of Warmack.

I think OG is Flukers best position in the NFL. I don't think he has the lateral agility to keep up with speed rushers, but put him in a phone booth and he is a monster. In terms of RT, I would actually prefer Barrett Jones. Plus he offers much more versatility, experience and intelligence.

Re Fluker.

That's a good build for a guy of his weight. And he could crush a lion with those arms.

Edit: Just thinking. Whilst he might not have the feet to play ot OL for the Pats, the fact that he does play Tackle now, might mean he's got enough movement to play at OG. He could be an outstanding OG in the NFL with that size and powerful arms. Just starting to think that he could be another first round possibility. Thoughts anyone?

Wow, he looks great for his size, no homo. At that weight I was expecting him to look sloppy, but he looks like an animal.

I like it.

Let me tell you a story.

When I was a boy, my dad took my brohter and I hunting in Botswana. We spotted an antelope, and took aim, but our african guide, Lombardiputu, told us to hold. For he had spotted an cheetah stalking the antelope. We watched, fascinated. The cheetah was so fascinated, that he did not see a male lion had crept up behind him. The lion pounced. But before he could sink his teeth into the cheetah, DJ Fluker - who apparently was on vacation in africa and in the neiborhood - reached out and got his big arms around the lion, and crushed him like an eggshell. Fluker then ate both the cheetah and the antelope.

Yup. I like it.

Compare Fluker's 6' 4 7/8" 355# physique to that of former Alabama DT Terrence Cody:

Cody was 6' 3 5/8" 354# at that weigh in.

Thats not really fair Mayo, they play two different positions. I think Andre Smith is a better comparision :D

6'4" 332#

So, this is a topless party? :scared:

P.S. While everyone else is focused elsewhere, I'm going back to DE and retracting my apathy for Margus Hunt. He is awful quick for a guy that big and has decent game IQ. With a proper strength and conditioning coach, he could be a monster in no time at all.

That poor SOB lined up against him in the Hawaii bowl (yes, the Hawaii Bowl:snob:) is going to have nightmares for a while.

He's old for a Rookie, and still really Raw.

If I'm drafting someone that old, they better be ready to contribute Day 1.

I wouldn't draft Margus Hunt in the Top 40.

Watching tape of Wide Outs... I like DeAndre Hopkins more than Terrence Williams.

Williams avoids contact at all costs. Seems weak. Fumbled the ball when he got hit.

Hopkins is the opposite. A total gamer. Has good YAC ability and welcomes contact.

You crazy #$%&, Brother Mayo!!

I also like Zavier Gooden-Missouri, Gerald Hodges-Penn State and Kenny Tate-Maryland in that role.

Wasn't Tate mentioned as one of the top Safeties a couple years ago before the Terps moved him to LB?

Yes, although I think that was based more on his size than on his play.

Ray Ray Armstrong
6'4 Safety.

Covers a lot of ground. Loves to lay a big hit. Was a Top 10 recruit coming out of High School. Also played QB in high school.

He might slip to the 7th rd, or even undrafted. Had some problems his senior year at Miami and sat out the entire season.

Wouldn't mind taking a 7th round flyer on him if he's still on the board.

Did Armstrong actually declare? Last I saw is his dad saying that Armstrong was returning for his senior year to the "U".
