Viagra's a PED, maybe that's what everyones taking...

4 games is a quarter of the season. It should be 6 games or
half a season if the NFL was serious about ending the usage.
4 games is for the first time. Second time is a whole season. Third time is life.

New England Patrioids?

Bummer. I'd be worried about the team's reputation if these suspensions weren't being handed out like crazy this year. Just be glad it wasn't someone like Wilfork.

Re: Wow, Adderall

The NFL can't say what the banned substance was so the agents for all the players just pick the most harmless sounding drug, in this case adderall, as a way to protect the image of the athlete.

I would bet it was either steroids or some type of banned masking agent in all of these cases.

That only makes me feel worse and makes me think my fears (that everyone "dopes" and the dumb ones get caught) are true.

Wow... shocked. What type of PED was it? What's going to happen to our pass rush? No Cunningham, and Jones out with injury.

Let's say just IF he's innocent. What if it's an over the counter drug that he's taking for a cold? He could appeal if he got a false positive right?

If it is PED's, why only a four game ban. Should be at least a couple of years.

Not talking about Cunningham specifically but more generally.

Final thought. Is the NFL becoming the Tour De France? :)

Call me jaded, but the word rampant comes to mind re: PED's and the NFL. I would hate to really see how many guys are on some sort of supplement, but I wouldn't be shocked if the number was huge.

Some of you guys need to take PED's.

Four of you were .001 second slow in submitting your threads. You need to work harder to get better if you are going to compete at this level. :D

LOL, I see you gave some to your guy peeing on the Dolphins...

Roids would certainly explain Cunningham's resurgence after a craptastic first two years in the league. :(

Re: Wow, Adderall

Right...it was adderall. He did it once by mistake.

Somebody with a pea shooter following NFL players around waiting for them to yawn?

Hey, we got an open roster slot for a month! He must have missed the reminder memo after Bolden's suspension. Maybe Forston gets called up ("thin" at DT) or Bequette gets a shot. With Gronk out, Jones ankle, Vollmer's back, Mankin's ankle, Hernandez still not 100%, etc, playoff roster could look different than what we field for a few weeks.

This sucks, but I think that the defense will be alright without him. I will reserve judgement about this for now.

DAMN IT! Don't these guys know they will get caught if they use PEDs?

Bummer. I'd be worried about the team's reputation if these suspensions weren't being handed out like crazy this year. Just be glad it wasn't someone like Wilfork.

It happens, Giants had Andre Brown, Tyler Sash and Will Hill suspended for taking adderall. I don't think they have any image issue. Although Brown did have his overturned. Pats had Bolden, a rookie and Cunningham. Spikes was suspended in 2010. This is hardly a pattern for the Pats, if anything it's a league wide issue.

Adderall = Amphetamines..... People can run faster jump higher, faster reflexes etc. Use to be very popular with base ball players in the sixties.

They were popular in baseball and known as "greenies" but they do not have the direct effects that you mention. Adderall, as others have noted, is a mixture of the isomers of amphetamine and is a powerful stimulant. If you have ADD, ADHD, or narcolepsy you have a legit reason to take it.

Take a low dose and it is like a more prolonged shot of caffeine:
-if you were sleepy, you become not so sleepy
-if you were tired, you become able to do your workouts (added motivation)
-if you were having trouble focusing, you can pay attention

Thus it works wonders for lots of people, at a dose far below what causes any type of euphoric reaction.

But if you take a dose not right for you (too much), you might experience
-prolonged sleeplessness
-accelerated heartbeat
-anxiety and panic attacks
-heart damage (after prolonged use).

Thus it is not among the drugs to pick to make you run faster or jump higher. It does make a dog-tired person get through a hectic day, however, which is likely the appeal for NFL players. Or it lets a tired guy go out late-night partying, which is another perceived plus in that age group.

One unapproved use is to grind up the tablets and snort the powder, which can give you a cocaine-like high but (WARNING) it comes with extreme risks- the heart effects and anxiety effects I mentioned, with a high that isn't really that extreme (less than cocaine for sure). That method gets you too much drug, too fast. Don't do it. Hopefully Jermaine wasn't either.

The silver lining here for the people that have been constantly whining about more blitzing is that the team is sure to use more A-Gap blitzes with pretty much the only consistent interior pass rusher we have out of action for the next month. ;)

This is frustrating.

Regards,
Chris

P.S. I definitely think there's an "everyone does it, but the dummies get caught" aspect to this. At this point I would not be surprised at any other name that comes down the suspension pipe.
