Go back to the draft night thread... about 100% initial disapproval of this pick. Only when it became a little clearer just who this kid was, and when some rationales were presented for why we picked him so early, did board members slowly convert to the pick.

This describes me pretty much to a T.

Delighted for the kid.

Hope he has a bright career here.

Delighted that he has proved so many wrong and I'll wager 90% of the people that called him a bust are delighted he proved them wrong.
The other 10% are just pissed he looked good.

Its better to say I told you so, than see your team successful for those.

The only real issue i recall with Tavon was where he was selected.

Good thing that he is working out considering our disappointments with DBs in recent years.

Yes he did ok, but remember it was just one game.
Read somewhere here on the forum that he was completely out of position on his INT scheme-wise.
He has to learn a lot for sure, but I'm positive that he will be contributing this season already.

Plus, finally we have a FS that really knows how to tackle.

P.s.: I'm still waiting for any posts in the Ebner thread...he had an awesome play on one of the kickoffs! :D

No wonder patsfans.com can't evaluate defense.

Reality can't be accepted of what actually happens.

Despite the fact that it was reported after the draft that at least a couple other teams were very interested. Speculation was that there was a good chance he'd be gone by our next pick.

A lot of posters felt he could have been picked up in the 7th if not as an UDFA.

Thats not what i saw even tho i am no expert. He looked like he was giving inside help for any deep in. Arrington was always responsible for the deep ball, wilson then made an adjustment and went with arrington and the receiver to help and get the INT.

At least this is what i saw when watching it back on game pass, will be interesting when the full 22 comes out

I know I was one of those saying 'WTF', but he already looks like he's got better instincts than chung

He didn't look completely lost out there as quite a few (if not all) of our safeties did last year. He was usually in the right spot and usually in a position to make a play on the ball. Outside of a few plays that I'm sure Gregory would have liked to have back, he looked pretty solid as well.

Agreed. If he keeps progressing, and this is not one game luck, we are all going to be pumped as the season moves along.

His man-to-man coverage has been very good so far.

I am no expert, and not sure of this, but I believe that, for the most part, safeties do not participate in man to man coverage. That is usually a cornerback situation and occasionally a linebacker, but I believe, and I could be wrong, safeties provide a backup to the corners in certain zone situations.

GENIUS!!!

I badly want Tavon Wilson to work out. Not only because I'm a Patriot fan, but to shut up the Belichick sucks at drafting critics... or at least dull them to a muted, irrational whine.. for a year or two.

2012 looks like an extremely strong draft for the Pats.
Chandler Jones, Donta Hightower, and Tavon Wilson all look like successful picks thus far. When you go 3/3 at the top of your draft, you've gotten impact players, all on the defensive side of the ball, where the Pats needed the most help.

I'm not sold yet on the 2011 draft, I think 2010 was a bonanza draft for us netting us Gronk and Hernandez, but 2012 could be just as impactful but on the defensive side. That's a heckuva accomplishment if true. Pats are looking VERY good thus far in 2012 and the rookie draft class, including Wilson, are a big reason for it!

Wilson was in on big nickel and as the SS at times, which do cover man to man. I wasn't paying attention to him on every snap, so I don't know if he was in man or not.

Mel Kiper is a buffoon.

Well...we got Ridley,Cannon,Solder,Ras-I from that draft. All guys who are starters or saw significant playing time.

And then there is Vereen who is hurt but could potentially provide some plays and Mallett who is now the no.2

So far it looks like a good draft imo.
