Patriots place Jeff Demps on Injured Reserve

It makes no sense to have the player sit out a year unecessarily and ****** his development in order to keep as many as 5 other players who wont be here by 10/1
Please give me one single example of BB placing a player on IR in pretense that turned out to be a developmental move. (and Kingsbury is not a valid example)

Why does everything Bill does have to be something based on the past?

Demps is not your run of the mill candidate, this is a guy picked up late in the offseason who has special ability but has not had enough time to fully grasp this game...all the other rookies at least spent most of summer getting ready.

Its not like the team picks up an undrafted rookie fresh from the olympics in late summer every year

He told reporters after the game he was fine.

Maybe he had a relapse after BB got through "discussing" his feelings about talking to the media about his injuries.

The kid still has a lot to learn.

and think...it was a mere ten days ago when the dreaded Fanonnynunu "debacle!!!" occurred ...and today?...not one person cares a bit about this Patriot tragedy...sad really...Fanene, we hardly knew ye...

A few of us speculated that this would happen shortly after Demps signed on with the Pats. The kid's being given time to learn the playbook and get ready to play football. Then he'll be ready for the playoff run.

Really that may be for the best. It was too "rush rush" considering when he arrived here. Getting settled, get his body weight back up, and getting him into football shape is a prudent course of action, regardless of how disappointing it is to us.

Re: Demps to IR

Well that sucks. So much for having a dynamic return game.

Again, when they finally do settle on a final 53, I'm sure that I'll find myself thinking that Demps could have helped the Pats more, in 2012, than at least a few of those guys will.

I think he'll be back week 8. When everyone is bruised and tired, he'll be fresh and know more of the playbook.

I'm pissed we won't see this kid on at least punt returns until at least Week 8.

Demps is done for the year guys.

You are confused about the new IR rule. He would've had to have been on the original 53 man roster and designated after Sept.4th.

He's not allowed to come back.

Re: Demps to IR

Nevermind. I just read that since he was/is not on the 53-man roster, he is not eligible for the new IR rule.

The new IR rule states that you have to be on the original 53 man roster, and then after Sept.4 he could have been designated as the special candidate.

He won't be able to come back this yr.

Re: Demps to IR

Did you read the article you cited?

The most prominent move was the team putting rookie running back/return man Jeff Demps on injured reserve, ending his season. He is not on the 53-man roster so he won't be eligible for the newly implemented IR-return rule.

The new rule is they have to be on the 53 man roster and remain there until September 4th at 4PM after which time they can be placed on IR and designated as temporary. Demps was placed on IR today. Apparently ESPN Boston noted there was no designation. There isn't unless it's that you're temporary and no player is eligible for that designation before 4PM on the 4th.

Why sign Demps if you're just going to IR the kid? This whole "stashing" would maybe make a bit of sense if anyone here could point to a single example where it's ever worked (a player went on to succeed after being IRed before his rookie regular season).

The last thing Demps needs is more time away from organized football. If we end up keeping someone like Rivera at his expense, that's just going to be dumb.

Are you still hung up on that? FFS, man, I have no horse in this race, and I wasn't even involved in the original exchange, but let it go already.

The DeOssie family sticks it to the New England Patriots once again!

Ah, rats. Maybe the kid is truly hurt? Otherwise, I think they'd have kept him on 53 and then stashed him on IR for 8 weeks.

I'm wondering if they aren't saving it for another potential injury.

It's also being speculated that Schiancoe may be the one who they might want to use it on.

I agree with you that the Demps situation doesn't make much sense to us fans, but as long as Belichick understands then we're just fine.

He'll be good to go next year.

if what you say is true, then why even open your big mouth to tell me what and what not to post?

more of your scumbag ageist bigotry???...feel free to F O & D...

This was BB's way of keeping Demps from joining the Jets. I was never too excited about the signing because for some reason I knew he wouldn't be playing this year.

BB is roster building...there is no drama here , just as the Fanene cut was just business..but the hysterical know-it-alls on this board have to cry,b!tch and moan at the drop of a pin at every single decision the Pats braintrust makes...can't wait to just WATCH the games and forget all this chest thumping drama.
