The o-line, or lack there of...

Solder looked really bad in his technique. When he moved he looked out of form. I think that it is clear we probably need to draft a guard next year. I think the line stunk yesterday but I will not panick just get, lets give it atleast one more pre-season game.

IMO, it's been clear that interior OL has needed to be drafted for the last couple of years now. Not to say that we were and are terrible with what we have, but, at the very least, starters need to be groomed for the future. Koppen and Waters aren't going to be around forever.

Yep.

I've been saying ~ since we let a Gold Mine of O Guards slip by on Draft Day ~ that the only 2 weaknesses on this team are 2 of the 3 worst weaknesses to have ~ the other being QB, of course: Lack of Depth of Talent in the Trenches ~ the Inner Trenches in particular ~ on both sides of the Ball.

Scrubs ~ with Dante's tutelage ~ can get us to the Super Bowl.

But they won't help us win it.

...as I've been saying:

Brady hasn't been too great the last 8 years?

What's going to happen to the fanbase when Tommy Hodson is our next QB.

I'll still be here, but this place will get ugly.

Bring back the Hugh Millen era.

I'll be willing to make a bet that the majority of people that leave here in herds will be those that we consider to be "massive homers" right now.

I feel bad for Tom. He's gonna get destroyed out there...

Well said.

Sometimes I can't figure out what annoys me more out here; dumb-ass trolls or self-anointed keepers of the Belichick/Brady Flame who can't bear to be contradicted or challenged.

The Franchise started way before BB resigned as "HC of the NYJ" and #12 replaced #11; those of us who understand what that means will be around to watch the Krafts keep the team moving forward when Messrs. Belichick and Brady move on to Canton.

If you ask me, the over the top homer bears more qualities to a bandwagon fan than the chicken littles do (though most of them will be out of here the moment this team goes south, too). If you want an elaboration, I'll provide it. But, for now, I'll leave it at that and not de-rail the thread.

He's got a quick enough release to avoid taking most of the punishing hits that he otherwise would take behind this makeshift OL. Notice I said "most", though. :(

I wonder if BB is going to call Waters and say something like

"Brian, did you see the game last night?"

"Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Come back a couple days earlier than we'd planned. See you soon."

No, the results of everything coming down to the pass game hasn't worked out that well in the playoffs the last few years. What I was getting at was the fact that relying on a prolific pass game may get you to the sb, but, even in today's game in an offense driven league, you will usually fall short without a run game/defense to compliment.

Lol. I certainly hope so...

BTW, I want to clarify something that you and I have had a couple of posts about:

I don't disagree with the notion that the O-line is an area of concern. Frankly, I'm somewhat worried about Solder. I see both functional strength and technique issues there.

I just think it's too early to panic.

Ok, I'm really unsure about the RT spot either. Vollmer has had major injury problems and I do not trust Marcus Cannon at RT. I think he showed that he belongs at Guard. Who else do we have at tackle after Solder, Vollmer, and Cannon??

It is. Let's wait until we get Mankins and Waters back, see if Vollmer can return to somewhat full health and let the center competition shake itself out before we start calling the morgue to set pick up appointments for Brady.

I agree with Solder. There is a reason he played te in college. I think that Vollmer has a season maybe two before injuries force him to leave. I am but worried about the interior so long as mankins is back early, waters is on a plane right now, and Connelly gets the nod and they all stay healthy. The tackle situation is what scares the crap out of me.

Solder was a TE coming out of HIGHSCHOOL. Like MANY OTs, he moved from TE to OT in college after his freshman year. Trying to make it sound like a negative thing when it's not is pretty laughable.

Solder did extremely well last year playing both LT or RT as needed. . Or did you not bother to actually watch the games?

Solder has a lot of pressure on him now that Light is gone. And it could have been jitters last night.

Acting like he's garbage all of a sudden just shows your ability to over-react to a situation.

Well, to be fair, is this observation based mostly on the bonehead mistakes he made? Either Yates/Reiss/Rodak said outside of those couple glaring errors, they thought he fared well as a blocker. I have to watch the game again to see if I share that opinion, b/c my initial reaction was that it was a weak effort for him.

And frankly, in a preseason game, if it comes down to holding or letting Brady get sacked - I'll take the hold. No worries on that one from me.

Bad footwork
Poor balance
Bad hand usage
Questionable functional strength

It was just one game, but he was terrible.
