Veteran minimum salary compensation?

How can you not be impressed with how proactive BB and crew have been this off season? They are leaving no F/A "unturned" and clearly are putting it out there that the only best players will make the team and/or start at their respective positions. Virtually every player especially those who may need a proverbial kick in the pants should be concerned that there is a guy over their shoulder just as hungry for their job. I can't think of anything that would motivate a player more.

If it does not work out the way we hope, one cannot accuse them of being complacent in their efforts.

LOL.....here's to getting younger

with the type of money thats being thrown around to DB's and pass rushers this is the only way the pats can sign any is if they are vets and jags and hope they got something left... i will take a 33 year old CB over Antwaun Molden all day

The goal is competition....in key areas.....I love it...

Hopefully he'll be able to help our struggling secondary.

Obviously, there is no guarantee that Allen will make the 53 man squad. We may have further addition through free agency or the draft. But as of now, he is the #5 cb, with Cole being the #10 db/ster.

======================================
Obviously, there is room for upgrades, but this group of 10 is a bit better than what we had in 2011.

SAFETY
2011 Ihedigbo
2012 Gregory

CORNER
2011 Molden, Jones
2012 Dowling, Allen, Cole
=========================
TO REVIEW

CORNER McCourty, Arrington, Dowling, Moore, Allen
SAFETY Chung, Gregory, Barrett
DB/ST Brown, Cole

8 position defensive backs should be enough, since we have corners who can play safety if there are injuries, in addition to using corners as safeties in certain sets.

I welcome further additions, especially at safety. But this is good place to be after a week of free agency.

Doesn't he have to beat a younger player out for them to get older?

Pretty bad idea to ignore veteran signings and hope for young depth down the road, you make the team better and let things sort out in camp for the best possible team.

When is the last time the Pats signed a guy, and you were shocked at the $$$ involved?

The money that Shaun Ellis got was surprising to me.

Good to see that they are finally legitimately four deep at corner, assuming McCourty bounces back and Dowling can play at a decent level.

Marquice Cole can actually play cornerback, so he is an upgrade to Julian Edelman.

The core is young adding vets to fill in the roster works.
At least Will Allen provides injury insurance to the cornerback position during training camp and preseason.

You know, I don't mind this signing at all. There are a lot of younglings in the defensive backfield. Last season, I noticed a lot of confusion back there at times. I think having a guy with some experience back there is a good thing.

Not sure it was possible for us to get younger in the Secondary? Mccourty, Dowling, Moore, Arrington - combine for like 6-8 years experience between the 4 of em. Chung is the only Safety worth anything and he is heading into his fourth year. Gregory might be the most experienced player in the secondary in terms of years in the NFL and he is still in his 20s.

Hopefully the 2 picks against the Bills when he got a chance to start is indicative of his potential, the Jets are pretty good at CB a tough spot for a FA to break in at.

I know Andy will be happy to hear that PFF says that Allen was a top 5 slot corner in the league last year.
