Patriots sign former Dolphins CB Will Allen

DOn't you hate the off-season? Nothing ever happens.

All the Dolphins fans were screaming for him to start again after week 1 last season.

Camp competition at his age though I'd assume.

Yet the forum is blowing up over the Saints and Jets :)

I like it if the money is right

Depending on what the deal is (assuming based on his age, it will be an one year deal), it could be a good pick up. I think I would move him to safety (not to confuse him with Will Allen, the safety for the Steelers) and possibly subpackages. Not a starter at CB, but maybe at safety.

Otis Smith redux - Picture the big CB who can who can be physical and effective with bigger WRs in short to mid-range zones, and in short tight man coverage, and that is Will Allen in 2012. He'd also be effective on the GL.vs fade routs. A second possibility is Allen becomes the next Rob Woodson, and closes out his career with 2 rings while patrolling center field for the Pats.

.....and if nothing else he's camp fodder. BB must have decided he's going to get all 73 players signed before the draft, add those 7 guys and then take the next 2 months off at the Vinyard. ;)

Good move, more competition and experience in a problem area

He's a little long in the tooth for my liking...camp competition i guess.

I like this signing alot. Guys is what he is at his age, but hes a pro. And compared to the inexperience and wr's we had in those places last year a good addition to the corp.

Nothing wrong with bringing a veteran to help the younger players through camp. Might even make the roster as a 3rd/4th CB the way they played last year

When is the last time the Pats signed a guy, and you were shocked at the $$$ involved?

True, true. I'm loving this offseason.

The safety conversion is also a good thought. Rod Woodson came to mind for me as well.

Decent signing, more competition at the end of the roster.

It was good to see though because i was jonesing when they went over 12 hours without signing anyone.

Inexperience players is not the answer for this secondary... they need leadership and some "bridge" players...

Low risk, high reward....

Converting him to safety is real interesting. I really would not want to have to rely on a rookie FS next year.

I like it, more bodies competing for space in that god awful secondary that gave me 0 conifdence going into next season is just what the doctor ordered, either the current players step it up in camp or they say bye bye and get replaced by players that play like they mean it.

Competition for the last DB spot on the roster got a lot tougher, but we still need someone to push Arrington, McButtler and Ras I-Ghoul for plaing time. Unless Allen has found the fountain of youth that Otis was using.

Good solid addition.

Certainly not a headline one.

That's what I am wondering, perhaps part of a FS rotation/dime back. I not sure of his Hgt/Wt anyone know?
