It's easy, and only takes a few moments. All the scouting reports I've read on him say that he's very stiff and would be a liability if dropping back into coverage. Also, is he effective against the run and holding the edge or is he a one gap rusher only? If the latter then it's highly unlikely he'll be a Patriot.
It's not that I don't like him, there are just better fits in this draft for the Patriots in my humble opinion.
Always good to have new names put in the mix though.
If it's simply stiffness then that's not a bid deal, "stiffness" is just residual muscle tension, which can be treated with massage and other bodywork.
Its more joint stiffness, which hinders change of direction. Remember the play JPP had on woodhead when the pats were on the goaline... bequette cant do that.
No ****. Then how did bequette put up 10 sacks and 5 FF in 10 games in SEC? And 23.5 for his college career? Probably the OLs just got out of the way.
Love the motor, but not dynamic…
At 6-5, 271-pounds Arkansas DE Jake Bequette possesses the size and motor to intrigue as a three down player. He has an idea of how to rush the passer, extends his arms well and fight vigorously to disengage. However, he’s a limited athlete with a very “blah” get off and is too stiff to drop his pad level around the edge. And the more I watch him, the only time he really has success consistently getting after the quarterback is against offensive tackles who lack base strength. Therefore, he can use his bull rush to overwhelm and relentless motor to fight off blocks and close. However, vs. tackles with solid base strength he fails to generate the same type of push limiting him as a pass rusher. Overall, he looks like your typical overachiever who will find a way onto an NFL roster because he locates the football well and plays full tilt 100% of the time. However, I don’t see him as anything more than a rotational reserve only.

This.

Scout
Sorry I meant Perry. I have spring training on my brain. Damn Truck Day.

This clown scouter lost ALL credibility when he claimed that the DE sack leader per game in SEC and the collegiate sack leader among all SEC participants to the draft, is a "limited athlete". If this guy is a limited athlete, what are the others? Brockers had a pitiful 2 sacks in 14games playing same opposition as Bequette, and those 2 are the only ones in 3 years. Bequette already had 13.5 after 3 years. Cox had 4 sacks in 11 games, not much better than Brockers.
This scouting report looks much more closer to what I see in Bequette's highlights.
You are clowning on this guy's credibility and then go on to compare 3-4 DE's to a 4-3 DE/3-4 OLB in terms of sack production?!? Find me any 3-4 team where the DE are out-sacking the OLB or a 4-3 team where the DT are outsacking the DE and i'll show you a team that needs better pass rushers at OLB and DE respectively.
He clowned himself on his own credibility when he wrote that BS idiotic scouting report, when he claimed that Bequette has a "very "blah" first step", when he claimed that Bequette is "too stiff", when he claimed that the sack leader among SEC draftees this year should be nothing more than a "rotational reserve only".
I pointed out Brockers sack states because Pats need pass rushers who can collapse the pocket and get to the QB, and this guy should have had a lot more sacks in 3 years than a pitiful 2, considering that he was playing for a good defense with a lot of other good players. 2 sacks in 3 years do not look like good stats for a great pass rusher like the Pats need. If he couldnt even overpower those strengthless college OLs, I would imagine that he will have even more difficulty overpowering the NFL OLs. Cox was not much better.
In fact, those very words used by the idiot scouter to diss Bequette could be used more more appropriately on Brockers. Michael Brockers vs Georgia 2011 - YouTube
Brockers looks like he has a very "blah" first step, and too stiff, and a player who fails to generate much push even against strengthless OLs, thus limiting him as a pass rusher. As the comments there noted, he got outmuscled and pushed around quite a bit. Sorry I"ll pass on this one.
You do understand that Brockers and Cox played DT in college, not DE? You do understand that Cox and Brockers face double or triple teams on almost every play and how that affects other aspects of the defense.
I saw Bequette play a lot this past year and to me,he looked like he was playing hurt and didn't have great games, just an occasional great play or two. Now, if at the combine he is completely healthy and participates, then the numbers will tell us his how stiff or not stiff he is.
Right now Bequette has a fairly low draft grade from polling a few sites. To the degree that he is healthy, his combine and pro day could make him a bunch of money or cause him to lose what little he was going to make. Either way I think because his tape is not stellar, we should wait to see what his numbers are in order to get a better feel for how he projects in our defense.
Fyi, Bequette was injured 3-4 games into the season. Missed 2 games. Wasn't the same player he was.
