Underwood draws notice at WR + Gaffney comments on 3rd WR role

13 TDs is the record for a TE. 23 is the record for WRs. The WR is the way to go.

I love Gronk, but I'd drive him to the airport myself if trading him could get Megatron in return.

Plus with a Gronkowski, there's plenty more where that came from

I still remember 2006 ending with a drop for Gaffney. Like Hobbs and Asante, unfortunately Jabar left on a down note.

Sorry, but that drop was "Rick" Caldewell's. wonder how many will remember the "Rick" reference.

In this case your return is more than questionable! :violent:

Caldwell had a career year with Brady, which given the number of notable failed WR transplants to NE, is an accomplishment. Hell, for all we know Megatron might struggle in the Brady offense. Thde NE attack is not for every WR but Reche made the adjustments. Unfortunately, as predicted by San Diego fans, he reverted to form and choked in the championship game.

Thats simply the wrong way to look at it.........

1. NO WR will score 23 times a season EVERY YEAR same with a tight end scoring 10+

2. Gronkowskis blocking helps the run game helps pass protection. these things wont be measured by any glorified stats so they will go un-noticed by people who simply look at yards and TDs

I don't think it's the wrong way to look at it, at all. Like it or not, the NFL is now a passing league, first, last and foremost. When it comes to passing, the WR is the bigger threat than the TE.

No wonder Ocho doesn't get it. 5 options for each player??

Yet there have been dozens of WR's that have come in and out of this organization year after year and gotten it right away. Stop making excuses for an under performing player that sucks. He doesn't deserve the excuses. Hell, Reche Caldwell was even able to come over here and be productive and was a guy like Gaffney. Any WR that has been in the league for ten years shouldn't have that kind of trouble learning the plays.

Good god, I'll never forget that dropped pass he had that would have been for a TD against the Colts. That play bites me in the ass till this day just as much as that drop from Samuel in the SB that floated perfectly into his hands that would have sealed a perfect season.

That may be true but I'm not trading Gronkowski for anyone given his current tear. Gronk at the line of scrimmage has been helpful to Green-Ellis on many many occasions. Johnson will never provide that.

Having Gronk opens up a few more rushing touchdowns then Megatron would, 13 TDs is good for most WRs. it may be a passing league which I completely agree with, but Gronk definitely helps the ground game when it is used, and the passing when he stays into protect or goes out as an option.

There's also a VERY realistic chance GRONK finishes the season with more TDs then Megatron.....its currently 14-12 (13 receiving 1 rushing )

I think you are wildly overrating the tight end in the tight end v. wide receiver matchup.

no I`m not, I`m valuing Gronk vs Calvin.

I get what your saying Randy Moss 2007 > former best tight end season. I completely agree with that statement.

Were talking about 2 players specifically. In the scenario you offered it would be a mistake to ship Gronk for Calvin because the offense would not become any better as it would have lost a player who is a freak at his position. Gronk may not have the same ridiculous catches down field but he makes huge plays for the offense and has the most receiving TDs on the team by 5. The pats have arguably the other best WR in the NFL to in Welker so our WRs would get better but our tight ends would take a BIG step back which would arguably affect the run game, since soldier would be used as a blocking TE and if Volmer or Light went down it would be left to AH who is no-where near Gronks blocking level, and it may be a passing league but there's still rushing touchdowns and running plays (the law firm has 8 TDs)

Lawfirm last highlight is a 1 yard TD........
Runs right behind Gronk.

You are absolutely right that Calvin would make this team better, but I respectively disagree with trading Gronk for Calvin as a positive.

deus has a point but I would only apply to couple of receivers personally, larry fitzgerald and calvin johnson.

I'm torn, Gronk guilt.....arghh it's a toss up, he's such a fun guy. Great for the locker room, a beast on the field, uplifting personality.

with a name like Gronkowski you can;t go wrong

^^^We have welker?

Another good big WR would help the offence but you cant let go of Gronk who is likely going to be the best TE in the nfl next year if he isnt already.

its easier IMO to find a serviceable wr in the nfl than to find a Te of gronks calibar...thats why 13TD's for a TE is a record.

and when you have a guy who can run routes and catch like a WR but as a TE with his size, thats just a rediculous matchup for defenses

If Gronk outscores Calvin Johnson how is that overrating the matchup? Also how many TD runs has Calvin Johnson blocked for compared to Gronk? Football is a game of mismatches. Gronk is just the best in the game at his position right now and his offensive numbers are beastly. He is neck and neck with CJ for the receiving TD crown AS a tight end! Do you realize how insane that is?

I thought this thread was about Underwood... LOL.

Those are the 2 that haunt me to this day also.

Obviously the dropped INT by all 3 of Meriweather, Samuel, and IIRC Harrison outweigh the Caldwell dropped pass, but it's a close 2nd.

I have never revisited the 2007 SB, so I have to go on what I remember, which was clouded by breathing into an effing brown paper bag at the end...(last 5-6 games of that season were a b!tch), but IIRC Samuel's potential INT was not as easy as Meriweather's, was it?

I remember Samuel trying to catch the ball, and keep his feet in bounds perfectly at the same time, but I could have sworn that I remember somebody pretty much dropping one...either Meriweather, or even maybe Harrison? Or was it actually both?

I would've started a new thread for the question (Gronk or Calvin?)but I'm a dumb noob and couldn't figure it out how, lol.

Their 2011 stats are below for reference.

Calvin 69rec 1,092yd 15.8avg 12tds 40time 4.35 hgt 6'5" wght 236

Gronk 65rec 928yds 14.3avg 13tds 40time 4.65 hgt 6'6" wght 265
