Pats release Leigh Bodden

Belichick doesn't deny the report, also doesn't comment on a general Bodden question. Makes it sound like the report is legit.

Bodden seemed to have lost a step with the groin injury, but if nothing else I would think the Pats would have kept him on the 52-man roster to see if his production would improve over the course of the season; perhaps they were convinced that it was not going to get better this year?

Who takes his place?

Just heard on WEEI... not sure their source. Very strange if true.

Maybe they'll talk football on a "Patriots" friday now instead of that baseball game... ;)

If it was on PFT, it is no longer there.

Yes, it is. Not on their website, but on their Twitter account. You can see their tweet here:

I wonder if this is just roster maneuvering or a deal restructure (like Banta-Cain in 2009).

Waiting for someone to say... Randy Moss.... yes on defense. Thats how desperate some people are to see him come back. Maybe Asante?

In the lineup? Dowling if healthy and Molden (I guess?) if not. On the roster, who knows. Didn't we just resign the CB we drafted in the 7th (Malcolm something, can't remember his last name) to the PS? Maybe he'll be promoted.

Whatever. Nothing really surprises me anymore. His play may not have been great but do we really have anyone else better than him to take his spot?

I guess this means Dowling must be good to go, but still risky considering Dowling's injury history.

Just heard on 98.5 that SMY has confirmed that Bodden has been released.

This better be a restructuring. Boddens been by far the best cover corner and is extremely versatile playing outside and in the slot.

On my Madden game last night, Bodden had two sacks and a pick against the Steelers. I knew it was too good to be true.

So with Dowling hurt....Molden is now our 3rd CB? Wow...

Ty Law returns ..... Finally :bricks:

Or Dowling could be starting on Sunday or at least the first guy off the bench. Dowling missed one practice. Odds are he will play.

I have no idea where a injured rookie beat him talk is coming from .... this is more a fact of BB has seen enough from Kyle to promote him.

so kyle is your starting corner who made bodden expendable.

The fact that it is not been announced yet makes me wonder if this is some sort of roster maneuvering. Otherwise this doesn't make a ton of sense.

Lol I doubt the would cut Bodden to resign him to the Practice Squad. Football knowledge 101.

This cut does make sense. We didn't bring him in to play the nickel for crying out loud. Whether or not Dowling is getting healthy has no impact on this decision. McCourty is our #1 and Arrington is our #2. Antwaun Molden is probably showing enough stuff to feel like working him in at the nickel is worth it.

He has to clear waivers. Does that indicate that this is NOT a restructure?

Those who were looking for the NFL Enquirer, AKA ProFootballTalk.com, for verification can now rest easy:

The Leigh Bodden era in New England abruptly has ended.

A league source with knowledge of the situation advises PFT that the Patriots have released Bodden, an eight-year veteran.

I wasn't even considering this and sill think its unlikely but who knows?

Now that I think about it, I'm dumb. hasn't the trading deadline already passed?

The best cover corner? Really? All I ever hear are complaints about him.
