The 2011 NFL Hateability Index

The Hateability index?....... That has to be the dumbest fu#@ing premise for a sports article I've ever heard. You hate your rivals and you root for teams you like (or even have fantasy players on). That changes depending on where you live.

Baltimore is hated because they stole Cleveland's team? Outside of Cleveland, no one really gives a royal rats azz.

Just stupid stuff.

Well, not to dredge up the debate all over again (although just replying to this I suppose does), but.....

The act of stealing an opponents defensive signals and relaying that information to the OC or QB, in and of itself, is not illegal under NFL rules.

However, if you tape the signals from the sideline first and then relay that information to the OC or QB, that will cost you a first round pick, 750K and endless media bashing.

So, the fact is that every single Patriot's opponent was actively engaged in trying to steal the Patriots defensive signals. Every one of them, every game.

Some of them even used a video camera.

So why didnt other teams punished or cought? (we know last year the broncos did it). i know almost everything about the spygate issue, but i dont know it all. if other teams did it? i dont know, if it really helped us? i dont think so...

Wrong! It was stated by Goodell that the Patriots never used the tape of the defensive signals *during a game*. That has been illegal for a long time. If they found evidence of that, Belichick probably would have been suspended.

The only thing the Patriots did that was against the rules was have a video camera on their sideline to get a better shot of the signals. The *location* of that camera was the only rule broken.

That's what cost us a 1st round pick, $750K & endless ridicule from every fan of every other team.

Bresna, thanks for the clarification. When stating that they could have relayed info to the OC or QB, all of that would have occured after a game and not during.

Other teams didn't get punished because no one took that leap of actually reporting them to the league.

The league sent all 32 teams a memo in September '06 about taping. Obviously, if it went to everyone then the Commissioner determined that it was a widespread issue.

In an '06 playoff game, the Pats stopped a Jets videographer from taping their sideline while positioned near the end zone. They didn't report them, but made him stop.

It's been theorized that Mangini ratting out the Patriots during the opener in 2007 was in part due to that encounter the year before.
