Ohnberger, Austin - Our Healthy RG's

It's almost time to sign a veteran

Connolly - injured
Wendell - injured
Cannon - non football injury
Ohnberger - starter
Austin - backup at OG and C

Yeah. Ohnberger and Connolly was manhandled, yesterday.

They better get someone better.. Otherwise, TB will on his back every snap..

Too bad MCannon needs time to heal from Cancer... I think we need him as RG.

IMO

Time for Nick Kaczur to return?

No. he is too much of risk of getting hurt, again. He is no better.. I think, they need Gronk to be on the OL more. You lose his WR abilities, but, AHernandez should pick up..

FWIW, both Reiss and Rapoport have mentioned that Solder has taken some snaps at RG in practices.

Light would make more sense to me, he struggles with speed but plays with a powerful base, Solder doesn't play with great leverage but has very good feet. I've said for a while their best bet would be to have Solder, Mankins, Koppen, Light and Vollmer on the line rather than having Connolly, Wendell or Ohrnberger out there. The whole line played bad but Connolly and Ohrnberger looked awful out there. Brian Waters is available, if he has anything left at all, he might be a good vet signing.

Ohrenberger always gets pushed around. I know BB likes versatility, but we've got to be able to do better. I really was hoping we'd have signed an upgrade in FA.

With the injury to Connolly, Wendell being out, Ohrnberger better at C than at guard and Austin not really an option at either yet, I hope the Pats reach out to a veteran G like Seubert. Unless, that is, Cannon is ready to come off the NFI list.

First cuts I believe is the 30th - so I'm guessing there could be some other names who may become available. I read one article this morning suggesting moving Solder to guard if Connolly's out a while...I think it was Karen Guregian? I'd have to look, but it was in this morning's links piece.

The Solder experiment is simply trying to get our best 5 OL on the field at the same time. I'm afraid our weakest link has been exposed once again and that a trade for a starting quality player has to be imminant.

A good question. I was hoping BB might make a run at Bass when FA began. He could have backed up at C as well. BB must have comfortable with what we have. I've always felt that Ohrenberger and Wendell are under sized and under powered, even as back ups. Can someone explain to me why we shouldn't try Light at RG? Thanks.

Agreed. A late cut from another team is a possibility. I have to wonder how much of the play book can be digested in a week.

I know he just retired, Damien Woody mite be convinced to come back one more year, if the price is right he could provide some experienced depth all over the line.

Nick Kaczur is still out there :lol2:

A few names that are available at Guard; Seubert looks like the best of the bunch if he is healthy enough to play:

Brian Waters, 34, Chiefs
Leonard Davis, 32, Cowboys
Derrick Dockery, 30, Redskins
Doug Legursky, 25, Steelers
Will Montgomery, 28, Redskins
Chester Pitts, 32, Seahawks
Vince Manuwai, 31, Jaguars
Nick Cole, 27, Eagles
Reggie Wells, 30, Eagles
Steve Vallos, 27, Browns
Herman Johnson, 26, Giants
Mike Williams, 31, Redskins

Re: Ohnberger, Austin - Our Healthy RG's

Since practices are now closed with the end of training camp, we do not know if the Patriots are still experimenting with different OL alignments like trying Solder or Light at guard. I'd like to see is an alignment with Mankins moved to RG, Matt Light at LG and Solder at LT. I think it's probably asking too much of Light to change both position and side while Mankins should be able to move to the right side and form a pretty formidable combination with Vollmer. There would be some transition and in the case of Solder some growing pains, but it would have the potential to be the best OL they can put out there.

Essex and Legursky were both resigned by the Steelers.

Time for Nick Kaczur to return?

I would think he should finally be willing to accept a contract for less, seeing as he negotiated himself to zero dollars??

Problem is he really isn't a guard.

Maybe Neal can come back for one more year - sure could use him.

Maybe Cannon?

Maybe a veteran from all the upcoming cuts.
