I don't know whether to be angry, start laughing or cry for the loss of manhood and reading comprehension. Clearly you are way too sensitive to be posting here.

First I did not call YOU smug. Here's were the reading comprehension comes in. In my original post I warned all Pats fans, including myself not to be too "smug" about the results of we saw last night, and then gave the reasons. i know this might be hard for you to believe, but the "smug" remark had NOTHING to do with you.

Secondly where I grew up in my neighborhood, we often added a "y" to a name when talking to some to add a sense of familiarity . So Jim became Jimmy. Frank became Franky. Smith became Smitty. Borg became.... Are you getting it. Am I going to fast for you. So when I called you Borgy it wasn't pejorative I have added the "y" with many other posters over the years, I can't believe that you thought it was an was a personal attack

If you misunderstood, or was just having a bad day, the forget about it. If not, then please take this moment to stand up; and take your head out of your .......

Smug:narrowly contented with one's own accomplishments, beliefs, morality, etc.; self-satisfied to an annoying degree.................I'm excited about the Pats, not myself.

I'll probably regret injecting myself into this, but "smug" was correct as PFK used it.

Don't rely on dictionary.com and the like as they only have the most common meanings of words. Eventually, the English language will have no depth or subtlety.

1: trim or smart in dress : spruce
2: scrupulously clean, neat, or correct : tidy
3: highly self-satisfied

Doubt #1 applies...But since Patfanken adds Ys to all his buddies names, maybe his buddies Biffy and Dougy are very sprucy
#2.....see #1.....has a Provinetowny feel to it....home of the added Y
#3....I watched Seinfeld today, I really enjoyed the show....just like I enjoyed the Patriots' defensive prowess last night....Am I highly self satisfied? If you really enjoy Seinfeld, you must be really smug? Really?

PS: I love this board. If you get too excited about your team, you get labeled smug. And they even tell you which dictionaries are all wrong.

I think you missed the "self" part of self-satisfied. Not that I have any opinion on whether you are or are not actually smug- just pointing out for clarification.

First I did NOT attack Borg, not in the least. I think he's one of the better posters here. It was HIS choice to interpret my comments that way. Its HIS problem. I responded as anyone would when unjustly accused of something personal. Telling him to take his head out of his ....was probably was overkill, and for that I apologize. But for nothing else in that post.

Patfranken is, as well all know (or should) one of the most insightful posters here. He's a significant contributor. I knew exactly what he meant by "smug," and as for "self-satisfied," we do call it OUR team, don't we? And talk as if we play on it? I think he was using the word appropriately. I think Borg misread it.

Can we get back to football? I look forward to more of Ken's "idle thoughts" that always deepen my understanding of the team and the game.
