Greg Bedard thinks the Pats may hide Haynesworth all preseason

Crap is crap, serious or no.

Yeah, I didn't hear the Bedard interview, but that's an asinine comment, saying "well, we just throw stuff out there all the time, we don't really mean it." Every item should have some backing to it, or don't put it in.

He was on Toucher and Rich and he blew apart the Pompeii article claiming it was all speculation. He also said that he thinks we may not see Haynesworth again until the regular season. He theorizes (may have some inside info, but didn't claim he did) that the Pats saw what they could get from him and shut him down for the rest of training camp. He probably won't practice until the practices are closed and won't play in preseason games.

I wouldn't buy this theory, but that is exactly what the Pats did with Moss and it paid off in spades. The Jets in the opening game in 2007 didn't know what hit them and looked like they clearly didn't gameplan that Moss would even be a minor contributor. Could the Pats blindside the Dolphins with Haynesworth on September 12th?

This does follow a certain logic.

psycho did mention in one of his reports that AH and VW lined up in spots he didn't expect. Why give away information?

Besides, spending more time on film study does make some sense as long as he's phyically ready. We know the guy is dominant, what else needs to be proved?

Another theory is that Albert got an attitude when Ellis was signed to a 5 Mil contract.

Is this based on anything more than some writers/fans who can't wait for Albert to flip out and take the team down with him?

I would be more than happy for Zeus to instruct Hades to "release the kraken" in round 1.

So he blew apart the Pompeii speculation by doing even more speculating?

No. He blew away Pompei's article as pure speculation with no evidence to support it and plenty of evidence to contrary and then speculated himself based on what he has thing. Two different things. The big difference is Bedard clearly stated he was speculating which he is paid by 98.5 to do, but people took Pompei's article as a real report because Pompei didn't speculate, he reported that someone who knows the Pats' ways speculated.

Typically the first practice after game 2 of the preseason. So most likely next Saturday.

Then this makes tons of sense. A week of practices with the team and three preseason games won't make or break his season, but hiding him from opposing scouts might.

When are people going to learn not to speculate what BB will do.

I think BB is one of the few true people on earth that trully does not give a crap what anyone thinks.

When do practices start being closed?

I have a feeling that the last open to the public practice has happened...

Rain forecast for next couple of days so into the practice dome is a possibility (closed to public)..Wed is probably a travel day to Tampa and no practice day after the game..

Just a guess ;)

For what it's worth, Peter King had this on his column today:

8. I think I almost buy that Chad Ochocinco or Albert Haynesworth might not make the Patriots, a possibility longtime football writer Dan Pompei wrote Sunday on National Football Post. Pompei has a good relationship with Bill Belichick, so when he writes something Patriot-related, it's worth a close read. But unless they're either hurt (Haynesworth has presumably been hurt because he hasn't practiced for over a week) or troublemakers (hard to believe in either case because each knows he's at the Last Chance Saloon), I think it's likely they make it.

Sounds to me that maybe BB is using Pompeii as his mouthpiece to motivate these guys.

Its amazing how much the media speculates when it comes to the patriots.:DSo many damn haters of this club.

What? Are you thinking this is some form of payback for the Dolphins unleasign the wildcar on the Patriots all those years ago? I know BB is a historian of the game, but I doubt he holds any grudges against a team :D.

I honestly think AH wants to be here and is going to work on being a football player. BB seems to be willign to let Albert be himself (i.e.e using someone and playing to their strengths).

I don't think it's hate, I think it's that Belichick doesn't give the media anything to work with so they end up chasing their own tails and repeating each other's rumors louder and louder hoping that something ends up true but not really caring because ultimately, it's about getting readers.

Come on, speculation is the lifeblood of sports talk! You really want no mock drafts, no roster projections, no looking ahead to the upcoming game and guessing how they'll approach that opponent?

The problem is when speculation is cloaked as "inside info," lending it more weight than it deserves.

So in post #29 Peter King both believes the cut rumor and then doesn't believe it. It must be great to make 6-7 figures based on diddly.

Good call. I hope Haynesworth is practicing today!:D

I don't think hiding is the right word, but I do think the Patriots will be very cautious with Haynesworth.

When AH is right, he is one of the most dominating players in football. But with his size and injury history, I think it makes sense to manage his workload. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't play in any preseason games, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the injury report for most of the season. I expect him to have plenty of "limited participation" practices.

Keep him fresh on Sundays (50-60% of the snaps) and make sure he's healthy for the playoffs, which is where they will really need him.

Isn't speculation the point of being here?

Message boards are designed for (amongst other things) speculation so the speculation will continue regardless. Sometimes it's even right.

I guess we'll never know for sure why AH hasn't practiced, but personally I doubt it is to fool Miami into not preparing for him because he is going to be used in some mysterious way. If that was the case why wouldn't they just use him in basic formations during open practices and keep the secret stuff for later?

I see lots of posts about how dificult it is to learn this scheme and new players need all of the reps they can get (OTAs, Minicamp, etc.) yet now all of a sudden people think it is plausable that BB is holding AH back to fool Miami?...... Miami? Highly unlikely in my opinion. :bricks:
