We seriously need a guy like Edwards, two to be honest, as well as a tougher line.

It sickens me that Sanchez has more deep plays and TDs than Brady this postseason just chucking it up to a guy like Edwards, its sickening. I think this midget core needs to be used as depth to a power running physical outside recieving offense.

We lead the league in scoring with 518 pts and you want to blame the loss on a deep threat? Yesterday Brady had a wide open receiver in Tate and was off target. Brady is nit known for his deep passes. Hell, Moss wouldn't even attempted to catch that ball. Everyone said we were better without Moss and now that we lost, we need a deep threat???? I don't get it. Maybe its time for Brady to start practicing his deep throws

Before yesterday I thought they were okay there for next season. But after seeing how easy it was for the Jets to shut down Welker and Branch yesterday it's clear an upgrade is in order. It's not unreasonable to expect the Jets to continue handling those guys in seasons to come. It's something like chess.

Most likely an upgrade comes from FA or a trade but at this point who knows if that will be possible because of the CBA situation.

If he's not know for his deep passes than whey does everyone say he is?

I can find about 40 more of these if you'd like. The problem is Brady locks on to one target like he did with Moss as well as Moss's possible work ethic issues. The Jets had no fear of getting beat deep yesterday and that was part of the reason they were able to shut down the intermediate stuff.

Essentially this was Brandon Tate's first season with the New England Patriots offense, who also provides value as the team's primary kick returner. Taylor Price was a rookie who saw the field only in the last game of the season. Julian Edelman was in his second season and the team's primary punt returner. The impatience with some of the posters on the Pats Fans message board with regard to developing young wide receivers is frustrating.

Welker coming off of a serious knee injury.
Branch traded to the team mid-season.

I would be OK with getting a guy like Julio Jones if there is no attractive DE or OLB in the first round at our selection, should he fall to us.

I'm still optimistic about Tate and Price. I really hope Brady puts in a lot of time with the receivers and tight ends this off-season. The one thing Manning seems to do more than Brady, in recent years, is put in the time to build chemistry with his new/young wide receivers.

I was hoping that the Patriots would use Price instead of Tate in the Jets game. Prices gets open even though he inconsistant at catching the ball.

No way whatsoever! The New England Patriots have far greater needs at defensive line (3-4 defensive end), offensive line (right offensive guard, Matt Light's future replacement), and the 3-4 outside linebacker position.

We need a deep threat. Its that simple. The offense works well but sometimes we need to take shots downfield.

Tate just isnt that guy sorry to be negative. I like the guy and I know its his first year but we honestly cant count of him for a deep threat. Other than that, the TEs are nice, Welker and Branch of course.

At pick #28 you wouldn't take Julio Jones if there wasn't a DE or OLB we liked?

Without an offensive line to protect the quarterback, it's futile to discuss adding a deep threat to the offense. Brady was sacked five times against the New York Jets defense and was hurried and harassed a number of other times. Dan Connolly is not the answer at offensive guard and an injury prone Stephen Neal turns 35 years of age next season. Aside from Sebastian Vollmer, who is the future at offensive tackle on the New England Patriots roster?

They will address that through the draft. They might need to resign Mankins. Some of those sacks last night where coverage sacks.Brady hung on to the ball a long time!!

Legitimate deep threats are not easy to find and are not cheap. Drafting a WR in the first round (AJ Green or Julio Jones) doesn't give us immediate help. Rookie WRs, historically, have not had success.

With all the other pressing needs on the team, most specifically in the trenches, the team should not throw a considerable amount of its resources (high draft picks and money) at a top tier wide receiver in the draft, free agency, or via trade. A Larry Fitzgerald trade would be awesome, but I couldn't agree with giving up three or four high draft picks for him.

After next season, if Tate and Price do not develop into the type of players we need them to become, then something dramatic needs to take place at the WR position. For now, there exists many other needs on the team and the prospect of our WR group is still promising.

How many SBs has this team won without a legitimate deep threat? How many SBs has this team won with a legitimate deep threat? The answer to beating a dime or nickel man-to-man coverage scheme is not necessarily throwing the deep ball. The team scored 500+ points without the help of a big-time deep threat.

A lot of the Patriots deep passing routes come off of a run fake. No one was biting on the play action game last night.

I think a lot of us have become enamored with the 2007 offense and the deep ball. You are not going to get another prime Randy Moss. In all of football history, he is/was the best deep threat in the game when he still had his game. You aren't just going to find some guy that can replicate this. Larry Fitzgerald? Maybe. Are we going to get LF for a 4th round draft pick? **** no.

I"m fine with the same group, or a cheap addition like Oocho Cinco at a bargain price. Too early to give up on Tate IMO and Price was promising. Welker, Branch, Edelman I'd hope are locks. Edelman is our best PR and has been almost the only one to show up in the last 2 playoff games offensively.

When we had deep threats teams still found ways to shut us down so I'm not too concerned with getting a 'stud'. Like someone else said, OL needs to be the focus here.

Obviously that dominant 11-1 run was nice but it's all about the playoffs and we sucked against the Jets, we made them look like champion material. I think we need big physical players on both sides, we are too fancy and flashy to grind it in the postseason anymore. I don't want Moss but I don't want the guys around Welker either.

Seriously? Are you that blinded by 1 game? Remember Moss? Remember the hub-bub about him being cut? Remember us being the 7th highest scoring team in the history of the NFL? We NEED a deep threat?
No. WHY did we lose? Our WRs weren't getting open, true, but Brady was also on his ass the whole day. We NEED to stock up our O-Line. We NEED to stock up our depleted ass D-Line. We NEED to get some kind of pass-rush!

I would rather trade up in the first round with both first round draft picks to select Marcell Dareus from Alabama, that is if I firmly believe that Marcell Dareus is the next great 3-4 defensive end in the NFL. Since Belichick has the inside connection with Nick Saban at Alabama, Belichick can firmly assess if Dareus has the potential to be the next Richard Seymour. Also, the Alabama Crimson Tide base defensive alignment was the 3-4 defense, so Dareus has experience within the system. Football games are won in the trenches and the NY Jets outplayed the New England Patriots on both sides of the offensive and defensive lines. Furthermore, the Baltimore Ravens dominated both sides of the offensive and defensive lines in the 2009 AFC Wildcard Game.

How is it that the New England Patriots led the NFL in points scored and now everyone wants to draft another frickin' wide receiver that will take two to three years to develop? In the meantime, the offensive line is starting to show it's age and aside from Logan Mankins (that depends if the Patriots sign him to a long term contract extension) and Sebastian Vollmer, where is the future for the New England Patriots offensive line?

#1 - Some big, reliable target that isn't a head case (ie Sidney Rice)
#2 - Welker
#3 - Branch
#4 - Price
#5 - Tate/Edelman as ST WRs

That would be my ideal situation
