Patriots bring Pierre Woods

Agree that Woods was a good special teams contributor.

But that's sort of what White and Fletcher are here for - pure LB special teams guys. Ninkovich was a good ST LB before being asked to contribute on defense. With White, Fletcher, Ninkovich, and now Woods, we should have the best LB rotation on special teams.

Hopefully next year the LB's impress in other areas.

I knew it had to be somebody else at the position coming back in so that left it being one of Woods, Burgess or Seau. It makes sense to bring in Woods with his ST ability.

Not sure Seau is allowed to leave the state of CA for a while....:(

special teams has to be the only reason he's back.....he was totally useless as an OLB

Bienvenue again to the best Frenchman the Pats have had since Richard Tardits.

I think you are selling Fletcher a little short. Sure, he will never start over Mayo and Spikes in the middle, but he is a strong open field tackler (Better than Guyton) and has shown the ability to be a good nickel LB.

I believe we will see a lot of Fletcher in the up coming weeks with games against Detroit (Best), Jets (LT), Chicago (Forte) and Buffalo (Spiller). He did a hell of a job spying backs out of the backfield against SD and Baltimore.

IIRC, no charges have been filed against him as of yet, so unless he was out on bail with travel conditions, he could go pretty much wherever he wanted.

Yep. My bad. Thought that there was going to be a hearing to determine if charges should be filed by the state on behalf of his GF.

Agree on Fletcher, he'll be a good player.

No charges against Seau

While we are at it, we might as well bring back Alexander to cover the tight end.

I think Guyton and Ninkovich are doing pretty well in coverage. Stopping Tamme is going to be a big assignment for the defense this upcoming weekend. Be glad it's not Dallas Clark at least, although PM is making this no name tight end look real good.

Oh hey talk about walking wounded... Tamme might miss the Pats game with back pain. Weird.

Pierre Woods Thrilled to Return to Patriots Locker Room After 10 Weeks on Michigan Grounds Crew - NESN.com

Pierre Woods got his job back.

The Patriots re-signed the outside linebacker Wednesday, two and a half months after they released him on roster cut-down day prior to the regular season. It certainly beats his interim line of work, in which he spent about 10 weeks on the University of Michigan grounds crew.

"I was excited," Woods said. "How would you be? You know what I mean? You lose your job, and somebody calls you. How are you going to feel? You're going to be pumped, so that’s what I was. I was excited. It was a blessing."

"It feels real good to be back. I'm real excited," Woods said. "It's an honor to be back. It's a blessing. I'm just ready to go."

I think we'll see Cunningham taking Crable's place in the nickle package as a rush DE. He's faster, bigger, and has a much better motor than Crable. It was kind of bizarre to see Crable getting so many reps ahead of him in the last game anyway. Perhaps Woods will spell Cunningham in the base 3-4 as OLB...

Ah, now Crabs release makes more sense. Woods can contribute on ST's.

Back to the Future part 2!

I think that BB went with The Crab thinking that he had an unexplored upside to develop while Woods upside had topped out. Once STs underperformed, The Crab failed to impress despite considerable opportunity and perhaps failed to internalize and demonstrate coachability, an aspect the coulda bought him more time, the die was cast for Pierre to return. Certainly run D and ST coverage could stand improvement.

I am not sure I buy the reasoning that Crable wasn't giving his all or that the team was dissatisfied with his effort. Didn't he win two black jerseys as "Practice Player of the Week?"

I know Woods is a good ST player, but I hope he is just being added and not being brought on to "replace" someone already on Special Teams who is injured a lot more than we currently know about...(e.g. Chung).

I wouldn't say Guyton has done well in coverage. He looked good against Cincy and showed up for a few plays against Pitt, but in between he was anything but good.

Not sure if it was injury related or not. Another poster mentioned he may have lost some of the weight that he put on during the offseason in an attempt to bulk up. Either way he looked slow and stiff in all but those two games.

I don't think BB is lying when he comes out and says that there were a lot of factors that played into it...

-Overall production vs required production vs the roster spot
-Learn from mistakes
-Maintain the same level of commitment every week
-Habitually late for meetings
-Lousy on STs

Who knows.

Hats off to apple streudel and BradyFTW! for calling this move yesterday - regardless of whether or not the comments were made with tongue in cheek at the time.
Yeah saw that too!

And who cares. They are equally adept at making no impact at all on a game.
