Ugh, I'm done with Meriweather

Probably. I wish he was someone else's GM, so he could trade all their good players to us when he got mad at them for random things of no real importance.

preferably the raiders

I just got done listening to the BM interview on WEEI today. I kinda like the guy. He's been listening to the coaches and trying to stick with his assignments. He seems humble and a team player. Hopefully he stays with the program. :horn:Hit em' again, Hit em' again, harder harder...

Wow, I'm quite amazed at how many times I've been called stupid in this thread. All for stating an opinion...my opinion. Be it an unpopular stance, it's mine and I stand by it.

Not that I need to substantiate my fandom to anyone, but I've been a Pats fan for close to 30 years. I have family that lives 15 mins from the stadium and have been to many games. I was also at the Houston Super Bowl, but I apparently am not allowed to express my disappointment about a player on my favorite football team.

Regardless of how long this thread lingers, I stand by what I said. Meriweather lacks in-game awareness.

Flame-on...I'll keep reading.

It's not your dislike for merriweather that made me say the post was bad, it was the reasoning. It's fine to say he is taking bad angles or freelancing therefore getting benched (like he was early in the year). But to take issue with him doing a little salute (for whatever reason) then saying you'd be happy with him off the team because of it... that is what i take issue with as it seems to me... and most others here like a very fickle reason.

I agree with that and if it seemed to you and others that I want him off the field for that one play, I apologize...that's not the case. This has been building for a few years now. Obviously I didn't compose the most thought-out argument, and that's my fault, but yes, Meriweather takes bad angles, yes Meriweather would rather try and make a sportscenter hit rather than a sure tackle. No, I don't believe he is a very good leader on the D, yes his style of play has made me really appreciate what we had in Harrison and what we're starting to see in Chung (fingers crossed that his knee is ok).

My gut feeling is that BB would rather he just play his role and not be so flashy...is that so wrong, hmm, I don't know. Thinking back on Rodney, he laid a fair number of big hits and he celebrated after a fair number of them, but never once did I find myself wondering why he was celebrating. I really wish Meriweather would have paid a little more attention while Harrison was there. Is that so wrong.

Not sure if this has been discussed, but Meriweather is finally on the "I'm ok with BB tossing his butt on the street" list.

The play that did it for me was yesterday against SD, Meriweather laid a nice hit on Crayton and then got up, all pumped, and did that stupid salute thing.

Problem, Crayton held on to the ball for like a 12 yard gain and a first down, and that play did nothing to stall the momentum of the SD drive.

It was like finger nails on a chalk board for me and just one more clueless act by Meriweather.

Good luck to you bud, have fun on your next team.

Stomper is indeed a clueless, undisciplined, overrated dolt, and I remember that play & thought exactly what you thought. However, we currently have nobody in the organization worthy of replacing him; so until we do, we're stuck with him.

I have to admit that I dont disagree with you at all. I wish Meriweather was less of a showboat..... I coud tolerate some of his antics (e.g."celebrations" and concern about hitting instead of tackling) more if he played a solid game. AND I also wished he would pick a more appropriate time to salute his friend. Juat because he happened to be on camera, didn't make it the best time to do it. What if he just got beat for a TD? Would he have saluted then too ?????

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was told about Anderson's praise and you can tell it made a big impact on him.

"I think that would be a first for me," Belichick said via the Boston Herald. "The officials are now evaluating the players and their performance. No, I mean that's great. [long pause] . . . I can't tell you how much that means to me, really."

LOL! Man, I wish I could have seen the look on his face when he said that. :)

There is something about Meriweather's game that really bothers me. Maybe it's the occasional flashes he shows like last year's sick pick 6. He is a talented player, sometimes a good player... but he is not a consistent or reliable player.

Meriweather reminds me of Asante Samuel

One game he is awesome, dominating and the best in the business.....the next week he makes huge errors and costs us games.

Just like Asante you never know what Brandon Meriweather you will get come Sunday.

Oh please. When has Meriweather ever cost the team a game? Be specific.

In terms of him being a sole player costing games?..no

but there is no doubt there are games where he is everywhere roaming around making tackles all over the field and there are games where he couldn't tackle a turtle and dives at players instead of grasping their bodies

I would think it's safe to say if Meriweather can add consistent tackling techniques to his fierce play he already has, he certainly could be one of the best.

yeah, but I'd counter that "turtle tackling" is a lost art in today's NFL and as long as he's not croaking like a frog flopper, he'll be OK...

I really don't understand the Meriweather hatin'. GOd Forbid one of the patriots play with some emotion. That's exactly what we lack on defense, so Im glad to get it from anywhere, even if it is on a play where the opponent gets a first down. When Brady got in the face of Suggs this year, you could just tell they were mentally in that game.

The OP is a complete moron. Meriweather laid a devastating hit and celebrated it. Who cares if the receiver was able to hang on to that ball? Trust me, hits like that wake up a defense and make the offense begin to alligator arm and drop balls. Meriweather laid a few big hits this game and this is something this team needs. They need an attitude and to make their presence felt and your going to complain because he celebrated a bone crunching hit?

This sport needs to go back to how it was in the 90's.. it's been over expanded and now there are too many fans who know diddly squat about the game with tampons up their ass talking about **** they know nothing about creating agendas that delude the game from what it's meant to be about.

People like you are what's wrong with fans in new england... You ***** and moan that our defense is soft and then you ***** and moan that when they show a mean side that they are too hard and they need to cut a player because he hit someone too hard or celebrated a hit that was still a catch.

YOU SIR ARE WHAT IS WRONG WITH PATRIOT FANS! There are so few real ones left since 2001... just a bunch of the cheese and wine crowd... no noise, all complaints, no knowledge, lots of finger pointing. Go back to watching baseball...

yeah...I'm an old time Pats fan...sometimes these dinky "calls" pi$$ you off for sure...but Jetdell is determined to do something about the mounting injury epidemic so the league can go to 18 games a season and all the rich boys in the Billionaire Boys Club can get even richer. I held season tickets for almost 20 years until the Razor came online, and no matter what the Pats record was, the fans ALWAYS stood and screamed when the other team had the ball. Today, some poodle walker dials security on her cell if you even fart in the stands. Telling fans to sit down when the other team has the ball near the goal line should be an alien concept to ANY real football fan, but it seems it is S.O.P. in today's pinkskin society.

I don't understand how this discussion has come around to me not wanting our D to play with a mean streak? If any of our guys can drop the hammer on an opposing player, I'm all for it. My problem with Meriweather is that he's always looking for the big hit and sacrifices consistent tackling and/or game play because of it. Over the years, we've seen him miss as many "BIG HIT" play as he makes. We saw in the Baltimore game. He missed Heap in the end zone, but laid him out later on. Actually, the whole helmet to helmet hoopla actual stole the spotlight from what I thought was a much better hit in the game. Chung on TJ in the end zone. It was a crushing hit that actually separated the receiver from the ball. I also don't remember Chung dancing around after the hit either, but I might have missed it.

Again, what's up with all the name calling. Why am I a moron for having an opinion...I'm sorry you don't agree with it, but seriously...same team, same team. I want the Pats to put their best product on the field every week. Right now, I concede that Meriweather is part of that mixture. He's one of the top 2 safeties right now.

Meriweather has done an excellent job stepping into the #1 whippin' boy position after previous incumbents L-Maroney and Moss were traded away.

I wish this forum had a thanks button.... so true. The Maroney comparisons are more fair, imo. Maroney was always a mystery to me. There were weeks where he looked like a very solid football player, particularly toward the end of the 16-0 season. And then other times I would scream at the tv to take him out of the game. (goal line situations last yr)
or myself, I kind of feel the same way about Meriweather as I did about Maroney, except I have a little more confidence in BM than Maroney. There is no doubt about his talent, but sometimes I question his football IQ when he takes bad angles, fails to wrap up, takes stupid penalties, etc. Then again, I believe he has better ball skills and intincts in coverage than people give him credit for, too. Kind of like Maroney, a little bit of a mystery.
I don't think it's a given that Meriweather is gone next year. I think the 2nd half and playoffs will determine what we do with him.

You evidently don't know the job of the SS. It isn't to run around the field wrapping players up. It's to be the enforcer of the backfield, he isn't the FS he is the SS ***HUGE DIFFERENCE***. Your SS is suppose to be the heavy hitter, he is the guy that is suppose to make players think twice when crossing over the middle not the guy that runs around the field wrapping players up in form tackles. And guess what... when it comes to laying down the smack down you are going to miss every now and then, it comes with the job.

Harrison missed a ton of tackles yet he also laid a ton of hits.. you can't have it both ways. Whether you like it or not Meriweather is one of the top SS in the league and he is only getting better at his job as of late. His only problem is that he isn't trusting his teammates so he has been caught roaming at times when he shouldn't be but these are problems that always arise when you have a young defense that has yet to really gell. Give it time... once these guys learn to trust each other they will dominate...

And no your a moron because your calling out one of the few players on our defense who is showing a real effort throwing his body around and creating mayham in the secondary because he likes to showboat? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Yeah we should get rid of him... we really need to keep our defense as a unit that has no identity, no emotion, no mean streak, no nothing. Just a bunch of passive individuals who collect a paycheck each week right?

Harrison was one of the surest tacklers I've ever seen.
