I pretty much try to ignore the doom choir, especially the game day threads, per my recent post. Since i reserve the right to point out some troubling areas later, how about this positive note?

We have to be one of the youngest teams in the NFL,as far as 1st and second year players. As much as I get frustrated about some things, we are tremendously disciplined and crisp compared to some teams, as is obvious against San Diego, or Cinci or basically any team that makes tons of mental errors and confusion.

That is outstanding for a bunch of rooks and near rooks halfway through the season.

Along that line, how about this freaking 2010 draft class??????

My God.

McCourty, Cunningham, Gronkowski, Spikes, Hernandez, Mesko........and now, Brandon Freaking Deaderick!!!!!!!!

Throw in that Sergio Brown who wowed everyone in TC and played a HELLUVA game today along with Dane Fletcher who had a second straight impressive game in spot duty.

This team is getting contributions from rooks and UDFA's all over. The depth should frighten the rest of the NFL.........and then there is the 6 picks in the first 3 rounds of the next draft......

People are saying the same about KC and its last two drafts. Belichick and Pioli have done really well in 2009 and 2010.

What's so great about the 2009 draft for KC?

Tyson Jackson- 29 total tackles.
Alex Magee - Traded.
Donald Washington - 14 Total Tackles.
Colin Brown - Cut, not sure where he's at now.
Quinten Lawrence - 1 reception, 9 yards.
Javarris Williams - 6 attempts, 6 yards.
Jake O'Connell - 3 receptions, 14 yards.
Ryan Succup -Starting kicker.

Wow, amazing that people are so proud of a win over a team that continuously crapped the bed so badly it was borderline comical. And this "it was only close because of the onside kick??" Priceless. Without San Diego's monumentally boneheaded unforced errors they would have smacked us in the mouth like a punching bag. Was it our great D that caused their rookie receiver to forget he wasn't in college anymore and lay the ball on the ground so he could celebrate a catch? And yes, this would be the same play that probably turned the game around.

I'm ecstatic that we came out with a W and are 5-1, but get real people--this win was a nicely gift wrapped from San Diego.

I find this whole "how can you criticize the Patriots after all they have done for the fans this decade" to be a lame and overused argument that pops up like clockwork anytime someone actually has the audacity to form an original thought that doesn't involve ballwashing the patriots.

My bad perhaps. I must admit that this comment is from the commentators of the KC game. I didn't bother to check. The comment was that the KC drafts greatly helped the improvement in the KC team over the last two years.

If Deaderick can contribute serious snaps as a 7th, that is huge. There's a reason we spend 1st round picks on DL for this defense. He's looked very composed when I noticed him.

Flip side of that coin is, what's going on with Ron Brace?

Yeah they're coming out of the wood work like always. I have a hard time believing they followed the team during the SB years cause this is what it was like a good deal of the time. Squeeking out a win.
All they want is for the Patriots to win every game decisively and never have the outcome in doubt. :bricks:

Spoiled, that's all, and lacking in the concept that there are other teams out there with players that earn their money. All teams squeak out wins. We squeaked out a couple in 2007, but there are people wo cannot enjoy 2007 because of the 1 in 18-1.

It's good to celebrate a win. There were quite a few years where wins were in short supply.

Thats something 'fans' tend to forget. The other team shows up to play too. Poor Matt Light, he'll be the subject of atleast 20 threads this week

BTW, anyone who's inclined to go back to episode 2 of PatsCast will hear what was probably the first prediction that Deaderick would be a meaningful contributor. Kontra was dead on with that one.

nice going. Now Kontras gonna get a big head :D

My friend who's as big a Bama fan as i am a Pats fan, kept telling me that Deaderick was a HUGE steal for us, and would be starting by his second year....I wouldve been really happy with THAT prediction. The youngins are far exceeding my expectations.

No idea about Brace, but remember all of the talk about how many of our '10 draft picks were team captains.. it shows, most of these new kids are very mature and play better than expected... McCourty, Spikes, Mesko, Gronkowski and Hernandez are going to be big players with us for a long time..

I was amazed that they called Sergio Brown's number... figured he was called up to just fill a spot and would be inactive.. but he stepped right in.

i can't believe i slogged thru that mess. suffice it to say that winning when you don't play your best, especially on the road, is the sign of a good team. yeah, the chargers shot themselves in the foot but so did the pats. there's no extra credit for style points in the nfl. that was a desperate team out there today and we won. a w is a w and i'll take it. i have to question people's sports background who think differently. i loved the adrenaline rush when he hit the upright.

The mood on this board has been really negative all season long, you'd think the Pats were 1-5. I had to get off the game thread yesterday because it was annoying to read. I used to love having the game thread open, not anymore. I'm freaking happy to be 5-1, I'm sure there are other teams that would love to be 5-1 right now!

I think it's that Red Sox mentality seeping in, plus the fact that a lot of fans here still listen to the local media so much that it's actually beginning to sink into their heads.

The Pats are a good team. You are what your record says you are, and the Pats are tied for the best record in the NFL.

I'm loving it.

...especially because back in August, I thought we'd be 3-3 by this point

99% of the commentary after a road win is negative.
Sorry that I decided to point out a positive and sorry that it is so rare on this board that you are offended that one person mentioning something positive is raining on your right to complain.

You are quite correct, Andy. There is something in the souls of bandwagon fans that demands "style points" as well as victory. They have had their brains laundered by the constant b!tching of the Borges, Felgers, Mazzarotti et al, of the media. No longer is Belichick a coaching genius for instilling heads up play, and Poise in his players, he must be a fool for not winning every game with style points too.

I sense the same attitude I saw in Cleveland when they ganged up on Paul Brown for not getting to another NFL championship in a few years. Or in Miami, with Don Shula as they both had to retool and rebuild Championship teams grown old. Both and as is Belechick were accused of "letting the game pass him by".

Neither of those teams has been to a Superbowl since, and collectively its going 75 seasons of ineptitude. Meanwhile Paul Brown took an expansion club there, since then, twice.

Many posters here don't remember the bad years at 2-12 and 1-15. Winning when you have a short week, and coast to coast travel is superb. Winning when you do it despite a non-productive Offense is even better. Winning when you either played lousy, or the opponent forced you into playing lousy, doesn't matter. Every year there are occasional games such as this. Good teams prevail; while other teams speak of "trap losses" and complain of "unlucky" upsets.

As far as I am concerned this Pats victory was still more satisfying and earned, than the phony Steelier and Ravens wins, provided to them only by the courtesy of the striped shirts.

How do you suppose Belichick ended up with tough team in the Superbowls? They learned patience, and POISE in tough circumstances such as this kind of game.

For "style points" consider the turnover results 4-0. Despite an ineffective Offense they gave up no turnovers themselves. The Charger turnovers were bizarre too. But the Patriots players showed intelligence, Poise and recognized and took advantage of Charger stupidities. Jumping on a football, that an opponent just left on the ground, recovering an unrecognized lateral. That is heads up football, and deserves recognition and a reward, and kudos to their Coaches.

Deadrick now has a sack in both games he saw significant time.

I remember a similar occurrence that cost the Pats a playoff appearance down in Miami when John Smith clanged one of the up-rights.

Remember earlier in the season when everyone *****ed that our Defense couldn't hold water in a glass?

Good point. I find it amusing fans pine away for the awesome 2003 and 2004 Patriots, while others (and maybe some of the same people) blast the record setting offense in 2007 for not getting it done. As some apparently forget what actually happened in 2003, here is what that season looked like:

Sep. 7 at Buffalo L, 31-0 [a 6-10 team]
Sep. 14 at Philadelphia W, 31-10
Sep. 21 Jets W, 23-16 [a 6-10 team]
Sep. 28 at Washington L, 20-17 [a 5-11 team]
Oct. 5 Tennessee W, 38-30
Oct. 12 Giants W, 17-6 [a 4-12 team]
Oct. 19 at Miami W, 19-13 (OT)
Oct. 26 Cleveland W, 9-3 [a 5-11 team]
Nov. 3 at Denver W, 30-26
Bye week
Nov. 16 Dallas W, 12-0
Nov. 23 at Houston W, 23-20 (OT) [a 5-11 team]
Nov. 30 at Indianapolis W, 38-34
Dec. 7 Miami W, 12-0
Dec. 14 Jacksonville W, 27-13 [a 5-11 team]
Dec. 20 at Jets W, 21-16 [a 6-10 team]
Dec. 27 Buffalo W, 31-0

So the best I can figure, the loud whining must be a desire to have a 19-0 team with a Super Bowl ring and awesome Fantasy Football numbers - nothing else is enough. Find a season where there were not ugly wins and losses and some identified deficiencies from game to game, and let me know what year that was. Or maybe it is some form of rationalization to explain poor predictions now that the mediocrity predictions may be in jeopardy at 5-1. And now add the new "if we had Randy, the Patriots offense would be so much better" lament, ignoring the fact the Pats had him last year and this year and he was not lighting up the scoreboard like he did in 2007.

Obviously, the team has issues - every NFL team does (unless Belichick somehow finds a way to claim the the top 5 picks in terms of talent in the draft every year and the best free agents on the market to fill in the other spots, regardless of price and salary cap). But at 5-1 with the best record in the NFL and a very tough schedule, you would expect to see a lesser percentage of complaints after a win, albeit an ugly win.
