Re: I heard on ESPN...

I have yet to see him play this year but his stats certainly are on the decline. He looked quick, but did he look a bit slower or less agile since his injuries?

Definitely has- he's not 2004 Branch anymore, but he'd be the second best WR on our roster if we got him.

Re: I heard on ESPN...

This is exactly why Seattle is looking to dump Branch. They really like their young guys and want to get them on the field.

But they have more WR than us. Its works for both. A X-Branch Y Welker Z Tate/Edelman seems pretty well.

Re: I heard on ESPN...

Kraft is always like that. Hopefully there will be lockout with a really low Salary Cap, because if not, we are gonna be like 15 to 25 in terms of expending money

The belief that the Pats always spend up to the cap is just a myth. HOWEVER, Kraft is not cheap. We have a quarterback, nose tackle, and kicker that are making the most at their positions. One of them is making the most in the entire league. On top of that, Randy Moss was one of the highest paid receivers in football when he was here.

Quantity does not equal quality. They have young guys they want to get on the field, but lets not act as if our WR corps suddenly sucks.

..quanity isn't quanity? :)

Don't like the idea of bringing Branch back. This is a new team and a new identity. We're not trying to recapture old glory, we're trying to put new photos on the walls with a whole new generation of over achievers.

The Pats have been in 2 TE's for something like 65% of the time this year, most in the league by far. The Y in this offense is Gronk or another TE. I bet we see Hernandez flexed out much more now. It will help the running game and create a mismatch one way or another.

Re: I heard on ESPN...

Now's the part where you point to a single instance of anyone even remotely comparing him to Fitzgerald. That's never happened.

You know what i am saying. My point was that i believe alot of people over value him due to nostalgia rather than maybe admitting to themselves that he has been a shell of himself since he left NE

Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times confirms that "discussions have taken place" between the Seahawks and the Patriots regarding Deion Branch.
O'Neil cautions that it's "premature to say a trade is on the table," and the Boston Herald suggested it was the Seahawks pushing the deal. Seattle has been reluctant to release Branch, perhaps believing all along that they could squeeze a draft pick out of the Pats. We remain skeptical that Branch would be an upgrade on any of the Pats' top three receivers.

Mods, Feel free to merge. Didnt see the other thread.

In every system I've seen the Y is a TE. Z is usually a Flanker, ala Welker.

If they feel skeptical, then they apparently didn't watch Price in the preseason.

Gostkowski is not the highest-paid kicker in the NFL, and even next year he'll only be the highest-paid one playing for a sane owner. ;)

If we are going to make a move like this, I would so much rather David Patten. Neither Branch nor Patten is likely to do anything, but at least Patten is out there for free.
Seriously- Branch was a good football player back in the day, but he has had serious injuries since then, and he is older. Truth is, he wasn't all that talented or even good back then... he was good, but he was never a great football player.

Brady loves him, he looks healthy, and has been making an impact (when in) up in Seattle. I wouldn't mind seeing Branch here. He's certainly an upgrade over Taylor Price.

for a 7th................itd make my day

What if Richard Seymour wants to return?

Re: I heard on ESPN...

thats the main reason . this is IMPOSSIBLE. Kraft does not want to pay even in a uncapped year. He wont pay 6 M even if Branch give you the SB automatically.

Why doesn't Kraft want to pay?

Don't tell me you're one of the people who believes that we should have paid a 34 year old WR a 3 year contract.

Branch's contract would be pro-rated anyway. We're 1/4 of the way into the season.

Re: I heard on ESPN...

Label me pissed if we dont trade for him because of money.

That **** is getting annoying

The deadline is in a week.

If you wait a week, you can get him for the veteran minimum and no draft pick.
The Patriots are in a bye week.

They could save $5 million and a draft pick and still have him suit up against Baltimore.
