Patriots Work Out DE Ogunleye

Re: Adewale Ogunleye

Ehhh. Pencil me in as undecided. He DID have 6.5 sacks last season, but all of them came against terrible O-Lines. And didn't he play DE when he was with Miami too? I don't know. Perhaps someone that watched a lot of him last season can chime in.

6'4" 260

physically seems the size for a OLB under BB, last year cut short by broken leg

Ogunleye for Burgess may be an upgrade...not much but if Burgess is retiring and we replace him with Ogunleye that seems to make some sense. Obviously we would all like someone better or in their prime but you take what you can get.

Hmmmm. Question is: Is he better than Greg Ellis?

can he play a 3-4 two gap?

When Ogunleye was cut, I suggested the Pats take a look at him. He might be a guy who could benefit from taking his hand off the ground at this stage in his career.

sounds like the pats are getting desperate with burgess about to exit....

That's exactly what I was thinking. At least try Greg Ellis, if he doesn't work out cut him. But he seems to have the most potential for this year at OLB free agents.

we should have signed greg ellis last year. instead we got burgess. ellis has played in a 3-4 in dallas and can get to the qb. the pats didn't get him because they were haggling over a measley million dollars.

he is 32 years old and no one wants him. sounds like burgess, 2.0 he will do noting for the first half of the season and maybe have a few sacks late in the year.

i guess it can't hurt do have more bodys but don't look for have to have any impact at all

Well he gets to the QB at a pretty solid rate. As far as I can tell he has zero experience palying the OLB position at the 3-4, so like Burgess last season, I'm hesitant to go through a "transition" year with a guy this old in a crucial season.

If I remember right, Ogunleye had some good years with the Dolphins. I know it is a few years removed from that, but maybe a change back to the AFC East would be beneficial for him (provided he is healthy). I don't see where it would hurt to have an extra vet on the cheap that might be productive especially just in TC.

At this point, Joe from accounting should be staying by his phone.

Maybe 10 years ago. If he was good at getting to the QB he wouldn't have been cut by the Oakland Raiders to rot on the open market for months.

huh, greg ellis had 7-8 sacks last year, which is better than what we would get with burgess or anyone else that is available right now. he's been fairly consistent at getting to the QB over the past few seasons. with ellis and TBC as bookends, we could generate a decent pass rush, certainly one that is better than last year. Ellis and TBC may not be Freeney and Mathis but not terrible either...
