I'm not sure whether to celebrate or be disappointed in the fact that this is somehow a good thing. Ninkovich couldn't knock A.D. out of the starting line-up last season and, to be a fair, a fly in the locker room probably could have "outlasted" Crable.

I don't know. If Spikes is as good as he has been hyped from minicamp and McKenzie rebounds from injury, I think Guyton could be a surprise contender for a starting position outside. He certainly has the speed. Although he is a bit small, he is around the same height and weight as Colvin was.
They did try him there and he was terrible. Speed is not that important for OLBs compared to strength and the ability to shed blocks. Neither McGinest or Vrabel were very fast.I posted this idea once and got nailed for even suggesting it. I think the team is foolish not to try any reasonable possible combination at least in the preseason.

I'm suggesting they try again now that he has a bit more experience in the NFL, granted as an inside LB. If he stinks at OLB in the preseason, that's where the experiment ends.

Ninkovich has had no competition for his roster spot, and last year he couldn't play at the level of Thomas.

I wouldn't count him out yet. He hasn't had a full offseason since joining the NFL. I'm not expecting the next Vrabel or McGinest but I think he'll be better than AD was last year (except in coverage)
I expect the team will be keeping a sharp on on the cuts lists for this position, don't you?
