Price: Antonio Bryant may be on Pats' radar

And to follow up your point, if the Pats don't go for a FA WR, it tells me the Pats plan on taking a WR with the 22nd pick. Possibly Golden Tate or Damian Williams or even Demaryius Thomas if his injury is cleared.

In the 10 years BB has run the draft, he has never drafted a WR in the first round.

In the 10 years BB has run the draft, history has proven that he shouldn't draft a WR in the 2nd round. ;).

Right. That Deion Branch thing didn't work out at all.

Here's my thought, we brought in Galloway who is a much better WR than Bryant.. But he had issue adjusting to our offense.. Doenst that stick in the back of your mind Bryant might have the same issue?

Galloway better? lol maybe 5 years ago pal....Your talking about what a 37 year old receiver who has played in like 2 games over the past 2 years...

Just because another human being (cuz thats what these guys are) played for another organization doesn't mean everyone who comes from said organization can't play in this system. I apologize in advance, but that's not a very smart projection. Each individual is different...hey maybe he wouldn't do well in our system but I would never say "oh he can't because his teammate couldn't"

I recall we added Douglas Gabriel from the Raiders a few years ago and he couldn't pick up our system at all, hence why he lasted like 2 games...His teammate coming from the same system has played reasonably well since arriving in foxborough...I believe he goes by the name Randall.

I really think this guy can be productive again. Man, I hope the Patriots go after him harder than Josh Reed.

I'd be very suprised. Can't imagine Bryant signing for much less than Boldin's salary, and he's got a worse attitude.

Who has a worse attitude, Brandon Marshall or Antonio Bryant? Also consider that Marshall costs a 1st round pick while Bryant costs only money.

Except Bryant has a longer track record of meatheadedness. Stuff that goes back to college. Moss has always been surly and irascible. But he hasn't pulled the stunts that Bryant has.

I mean, he got into a tiff with Bill Parcells and was traded. He got into a fight with Mike Nolan and was also traded. He got into numerous fights with assistants at Pitt. he sued the NFL because he failed a drug test they gave him after he was released from the 49ers (he claimed they shouldn't have tested him because he wasn't an NFL player). He's been arrested for driving 100 pmh in a Lamborghini drunk and then resisting arrest. He had 4 separate run-ins at Pitt. Once for stealing phone access codes, once for fighting with teammates, becoming combative and abusive with campus police (that one, I'm not sure about, since I think it's quite easy to become abusive with campus police--speaking from experience), getting into it with an assistant coach. He was suspended twice by the university.

Like it or not, his past actions and his reputation for being a bad locker room guy in Tampa probably rule him out. Take a look at what BB has been doing this off-season: Thomas, a bad locker room guy is almost certainly gone. Chris Baker, our only tight end is cut as rumors of him being a bad locker room guy come out. We are still rebuilding, and it seems clear that BB is getting rid of guys who are negative influences even if they might be able to help.

That being said, maybe they will bring him in and give him another chance, but I wouldn't hold my breath. He's also always struck me as a guy who has success based on his athleticism and natural talent than a smart player and great route runner.

Unfortunately there just aren't many options available right now and we sorely need another legit WR. Still, if it wouldnt be a good fit I don't see BB trying to cram a round peg into a square hole, but we will have to wait and see what he thinks.

If Bryant's character concerns are really as bad as some are making out, then I don't see him donning a Pats uniform either. Kraft just wouldn't sign off on it. It really depends on BB's evaluation of the player, what he brings, and if he believes the guy can 'turn a new leaf' ala Randy Moss or Corey Dillon.

I don't see us getting either of those. Character's not really an issue for me, don't get me wrong I'd love to see Bryant in this offense. But after seeing what Boldin could have been had for, I don't see us shelling out big bucks at any WR out there.

I agree with your thinking here. I'm not sure how realistic it was to want Anquan Boldin to agree to a 1 yr 'prove it' type deal, when he was easily one of the most sought after wideouts the past couple of years. I'm certainly not suggesting that I could've done better with the negotiations, etc, but I was a bit surprised. As much as I can respect their choice on making sure he fit in here, he was already proven as a great WR2 in the NFL, and was surely thinking he could do better than a 1 yr deal I'd imagine.

After seeing him sign for 7 mill/per, I was a bit disappointed--especially considering Moss' probable departure next year, Welker's impending PUP, and our overall lack of options at the position.

When you figure that Bryant will surely want at least the same money, if not more considering he made almost 10 million last year, I don't know how excited I'm going to get about the possibility of Antonio Bryant coming here. Boldin at least was a good locker room leader, whereas Bryant has some baggage etc. I'd rate their possibility of injuries about the same.

Josh Reed could be a good 3/4 option, but we need playmakers at the WR position. We all saw what some good options provided Brady in 2007. If there's a guy I could pick right now, it'd probably be Steve Breaston, although I realize it'd take a lot in picks to get him here. I haven't checked but I'm assuming he's tendered at the highest level, if not simply a #1--which is likely still way too much.

Why did Bryant's productivity drop in HALF from 2008 to 2009 though? That has me worried. But it also probably means that we can get him for less $$$.

Antonio Bryant: Career Stats

Because of who was throwing him the ball. In 2008, it was Garcia. In 2009, it was a plethera of bad to mediocre quarterbacks. In 2010, it would be Tom Brady.

I'm really hoping this is true cause I think he's the best free agent we could sign right now, aside for Breaston.

I'd much prefer him over josh reed, cause the gap between the two of them is quite big. Bryant is a solid number 2 receiver, whereas Reed is a 3/4 receiver.

I'd love to see them both brought in, actually.

If you want talented WRs, you're pretty much going to have to deal with headcases. At this point, if a WR can produce, I'll take him unless he's TO-level insane.

Agreed. At this point, Bryant is the best WR option in free agency that is available to us, unless the team pulls a blind side trade for someone out of the blue. I wouldn't mind seeing him line up across from Moss.

Bryant may be the best available FA receiver. At least he won't cost a draft pick.

and he would seamlessly take the malcontent role from Adalius. Perfect fit, No thanks.

Look you need to really look at stats and read other forums before you go ahead and basically call me crazy..

My point is you have a receiver, Galloway, who didn't adjust to the Pats system.. He had a better overall career than the guy you guys are all talking about brining in.. So Galloway is 37.. His age wasn't the issue but the fact he couldn't adjust to the Patriots system.. Just to add on to "its been 5 years since Galloway did anything".. Go look up the stats. Up until a year ago before joining the pats he had three 1,000yd season.. In the same time, Bryant had ONE..

Lastly your point about D. Gab not working out but MOss did so we shouldn't worry about players coming into the same system.. Seriously dude I don't even know where to start with that.. But I'll keep it short.. If Moss came here and flamed out and was cut, would you be "JACKED UP" with Gab coming here? (thats more in line with what I'm saying)

I mean, he got into a tiff with Bill Parcells and was traded.

I didn't read the whole thread and not sure if it was mentioned but didn't he throw a towel in Parcels face? Is that story him or someone else?

Yecch. Why do you guys love the Big Prima-donna Receivers when the Patriots have the most well-behaved (by a longshot) Big WR in the league:

From Wikipedia:

"Bryant was selected in the 2002 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, but in 2004 he was traded to the Cleveland Browns for wide receiver Quincy Morgan after a heated exchange with head coach Bill Parcells."

...

On March 1, 2007 Bryant was released by the 49ers because of clashes with head coach Mike Nolan. This came one year after he signed a four year, $14 million dollar contract.

...

On September 17, 2007, Bryant was reinstated by the league, but was not able to sign with a team, partly because of a failed drug test over the summer. In October 2007, he filed a lawsuit against the NFL to try to get them to stop drug testing him since he is not currently a player, and to drop the failed drug test.

....

On February 18, 2009, Bryant was given the Franchise tag by the Buccaneers.[3] He accepted the franchise tag on February 26, 2009. On February 25, 2010 Antonio Bryant was released by the Buccaneers.

Hmmmm sounds great. A true Patriots player eh?

Great post. I agree, no more of these guys. Lets go back to 2001, with a team of hard working, team oriented, classy overachievers. No sense dumping Adalius Thomas just to replace him with this guy.
