If we don't sign Bodden...

I'm sure the pats front office has heard it, if they are indeed shopping him around.

Hopefully they'd take Matt Light off our hands, but he's probably not worth anything with his salary.

I just hope Wilhype isnt on the team this season.

He couldnt cover Aiken or Stanback.

Pats fan obsession with lions defence is confusing for me.....

Are you kidding me? As long as Cromartie's knees aren't shot, a Maroney for Cromartie swap would be a total robbing of the Chargers! I would really like that trade if his health checks out. *knocks on wood*

Interesting thought. It seems one-sided in our favor, but not everyone is as weirdly down on Maroney as Pats media and fans. I could see the Chargers point if Cromartie has been exasperatinly underachieving for them, and if they remember LoMo in the playoffs. That would be a nice trade for both sides.

I was basing it off the Choice for Cromartie rumors. It's hard to believe, but Maroney is actually YOUNGER than Choice. Choice was born in 84 and Maroney was born in 85. Maroney has shown flashes of what he can do, most notably in 07 playoffs and at times in 09. He was highly regarded coming out of college and some teams might think at 24 the guy is still young and ready to explode on to the scene with a change of scenery. I don't think the rest of the league is as down on Maroney as the NE media is.

As for Cromartie, I was checking out the Chargers Message Boards and they want to dump this guy and have Cason start. A lot of them are still upset over the non-tackle of Shonn Greene. They'd like to see him shipped out. He's kind of the Maroney of SD LOL where the rip the guy for not producing like he should. I think if he came here he could rebound and return closer to his 07 form.

It could be a swap that might work out for both teams. Cromartie had a great year in 07 then played with a broken hip in 08. 09 he was improved upon his poor 08 season. He's got great closing speed and can stick with his man really well. Probably has some of the best ball skills in the game at CB, which people hate Wilhite for not having. I would definitely kick the tires on it, especially if Bodden isn't re-signed. I think I'd be able to put up with his poor tackling at times if he can bring the game-breaker presence he brought in 07 where he was all over the place picking balls off left and right, and shutting down Moss in the AFCCG (1 catch 18 yards).

If we don't sign Bodden, then a trade for Buchanon is fine.

I just spoke to Detroit Lions CB Phil Buchanon who told me that the Lions placed him on the trade block. He said he would take considerably less money to come and play for the Patriots and that all he wants to do is play for a winner and make big plays for that team. He is a great person with amazing physical attributes, and he did well in the Tampa 2 scheme despite having a history of playing well in man schemes. He certainly showed he hasn't lost a step when he caught AD from behind and forced a fumble when they played this season. What do you guys think of P-Buc in a Pats jersey?

I'd much rather have Maroney than Cromartie.

Same here. Considering that Maroney is still young and Cromartie is still as dumb as a rock, I think we'd get the better deal just keeping #39. I'd love to see him in the same backfield as Dwyer, who reminds me of Corey Dillon for some reason. This, of course, assumes that we upgrade the line in a way that they can consistently push people off the ball and open some holes for the backs.

Same. I don't like the idea of trading for a CB with a lingering hip injury.

I'm all for Buchanon, though, if we can get him for a reasonable price. I've always liked him.

Same here. A defensive backfield of Bodden, Buchanon, and Butler (we should call them the "Killer B's" if it happens) would be pretty stout... provided we find a way to rush the passer.

Butler, and Wilhite will have another offseason under their belt to learn, and improve. Not that im saying we shouldnt draft, or sign anyone else. I just think the critics should lay off the youngins. BB will get Wilhite to learn the art of 'looking for the ball', and he'll be improved this year. If Bodden stays, fine. Just as long as it isnt for big money, which is likely what he wants.

We have invested a lot of draft picks recently into our secondary and to date all we have to show for it is maybe two potential playmakers, Merriweather and Butler.

Not sure Wilhite needs to be on the roster, and not sure what the deal is with Wheatley.

Until the 3 cone times come out, hard to tell if BB will take a gamble on another DB in this draft.

and not sure what the deal is with Wheatley.

I've asked this many times and nobody seems to have an answer. He seemed to be coming on in 08 before he got injured and other than one week this year when everybody was hurt he hasn't sniffed the field. The one week he did he seemed to play well. Is he just in the dog house, not giving what the coaching staff wants, or...........?

As long as we get some sort of pass rush, I would take either Cromartie or Buchanon...

I'm pretty sure he's viewed as crap by the SD fans and would gladly trade him for Maroney.

I like the guy, super speedy, tall, only problem is he's all finesse. He doesn't like to tackle and you'll never see him light someone up.

If he can return to his insane interceptions and kickoff returns, why not.

Since when did Samuel make a tackle? He was a playmaker like Cromartie. Assante would rather have been in Brockton if a player came his way in Foxborough. A tackle made on the outside from Samuele was a "value-add" when that took place.
Maroney for Cromartie? No brainer for both sides.
How soon?

If we improve the pass rush, I'd be fine with who we have already. Anyone else added would be gravy.

There is a major difference between Samuel and Cromartie. Samuel is actually a smart player who liked to gamble way too often. Cromartie is just athletic. He's horrible in coverage and a lousy tackler. I would not give up Maroney for Cromartie.

And I see no problems in the secondary, but if some people insist the Patriots get someone, I'd rather they get Marlin Jackson who's a better cover corner. His injuries mas scare some off, but he's the only guy I see the Patriots having a realistic chance at having. The Colts are going to have to spend their money on Bethea or Jackson and I'm pretty sure they will go with Bethea.

You want a guy who does not fit our running back scheme who has been a healthy scratch, who is in the last year of his contract and has now developed fumbleitis versus a young DB with tons of talent that has been not harnessed and can work as a KR? He is a major talent that plays undisciplined but his body of work in 2009 was 10 PDF and 3 INT.s but did they throw to his side? He was a Pro Bowl player. Maroney is not a starter the last time I checked.
Still a no-brainer Maroney for Cromartie who is four years younger than Bodden but I would love that tandem.
