GBN Big Board

I have Lane as a fifth rounder at the moment, but he could rise.

And I love Norwood. He reminds me so much of James Harrison. He can cover, rush the passer, play the run, make big plays, does EVERYTHING that a linebacker should do. He'll slip because he's 6 foot to 6 foot 1, but I still love everything else about him.

I'm not sure Dunlap can transition, though. I think Pierre-Paul is a better option. He's just so athletic and, I think, better in the hips.

Wait wait wait....

FIFTH?

Fifth round?

Holy Mother of God.

You think he's a three down player?

Seriously?

Not a hope in hell.
I think he could find himself taking reps as a WR as well as RB, and Special Teams balances things out a bit.

Based on their board give me a Cody, a Hardy, a Best and a Mike Johnson.

I think Wilfork can play some end in a 3-4 so you end up with a front seven something like this.
Warren - Cody - Wilfork
Hardy - Guyton - Mayo - TBC (assumes he is resigned)

LDE - Warren, Wright
NT - Cody, Brace
RDE - Wilfork, Pryror

LOLB - Hardy, Thomas (I keep him, he can play all LB positions at a solid (not great) level)
LILB - Guyton, McKenzie
RILB - Mayo, someone, maybe Alexander
ROLB - TBC, Crable

O Line
Light, Mankins (assumes he is retained), Koppen, Kaczur, Vollmer
backups - LeVoir, Connolly, Johnson, Wendell

Plus an upgrade in the punt and kick return game, pretty good Day 1 of the draft.

Lane's probably will end up as a late 2nd/early 3rd round pick.

Dunlap vs. Pierre-Paul is an open competition as far as I'm concerned. Dunlap is stronger and stouter, more of a pure strongside guy. Pierre-Paul is a bit quicker and perhaps a bit more open in the hips. A lot depends on how Dunlap weighs in and times. If he's in the 290 lb. range then I don't think he's an option. If he is around 270 and his short shuttle and 3-cone are good, then I like him a lot. I think Pierre-Paul is much more raw and has less experience against top competition, and is still figuring out how to coordinate his body. But it could go either way.

I think Norwood would eventually end up at SILB for us. He screams Tedy Bruschi to me. But it would take a couple of years for him to transition.

Not a hope in hell.

I think BB would find a way to use Spiller as much as possible, whether at RB or WR. He's a weapon just by being on the field. He has home run potential on every play, so the defense has to account for him. Lose track of him, and the next time you see him he may be kneeling down in the end zone.

That ability to keep defenses honest would do wonders for our offense. We were way too predictable last year. And frankly, boring to watch.

My ideal would be to get Spiller and one of Carlos Dunlap/Jason Pierre-Paul (I'm strongly leaning toward Dunlap, but both have amazing potential). Add Austen Lane at 83, an OG at 53, and a WR and SILB in FA, and resign our key guys, and this team would be ready to compete for the SB.

OK! I'm all in with this. Now, just email this to BB and we should be all set! :singing:

Why waste a first round pick and more for a third down back who won't be on the field every snap?

I'd question the sanity of BB and co if we gave up extra picks to get him.

If you want that type of player, wait until late in round 2 for Best, or take McCluster.

would be fine with Spiller but McCluster is going to be a player.

I think you can definitely move Spikes and Hughes around in the right system *SIGH*

Spikes, Hughes are high on my list if they fall.. depnds a lot at the combine though..

I don't like to give players high grades unless I've seen them in action.

I haven't seen Austen Lane at all. I'm sure he'll rise, but on measurables alone he's pretty impressive. I don't feel comfortable giving him a higher grade until after I have gotten a better perspective on him.

Based on their board, give me Aurelius Benn, Jahvid Best, Jared Odrick, and Austen Lane.

I keep reading that Benn is fast, but a poor route-runner. Shades of Chad Jackson/Bethel Johnson. Personally, I'd rather see Freddie Barnes, Jordan Shipley or Blair White - preferably all three. At least you know they can consistently run good routes, make smart adjustments to get open, and make the catch. Maybe none of these are consistent deep threats like Moss or Marshall, but, if they can all keep the chains moving at a 15-20 yard clip, maybe that doesn't matter as much.

CBS has Barnes running a 4.6 forty. Unless Barnes has super quick twitch, BB will probably pass on any 4.6 WR, not named Welker.

NFLDraftScout has Barnes at 4.45-4.65, projected 4.56; White projected 4.54; Shipley projected 4.47. Benn is projected at 4.46. We'll have to wait and see what they actually run. Anyway, Brandon Marshall and Marques Colston only ran 4.55 at their Combine.

Yes, Marshall and Colston are 6'4", which compensates. But Benn is only 6'2" and White is the same.

But GBN has Benn going around #37, early 2nd (probably goes a lot later than that). I seriously doubt that Barnes or Shipley get as high as the late 2nd, probably more like late 3rd (when we may have a compensatory pick). And I can't see White going before the 4th round. Huge difference in the risk/reward analysis.

BB has taken two shots at speedy WRs who didn't run routes when they were drafted and never learned how. I'm thinking he'd now be more inclined, after his Welker experience, to go for guys who are not quite as speedy but who already know how to run routes, especially if they're later picks.

How does NE get a comp pick in the third this year?

Because I don't believe he will be a thrid down back, I think he's gonna be top drawer RB and without doubt a game changer.

Would be nice to know we had one of those in the backfield with the likes of Faulk to come in 3rd down if required.

We need playmakers this draft and he's one of them

The real question is who does Spiller actually become - Reggie Bush or the next Chris Johnson? If it's the latter, you'd be crazy not to take him if he drops to your pick range. I think we will prioritize defense. But it all depends on what BB is seeing there on the film and who he thinks is the best value for our team.

I was thinking maybe for Gaffney. Might be optimistic. Could be a 4th rounder. Could be canceled out by McGowan, though. I hadn't thought of that.

Pats lost Gaffney, Jordan, Evans and Paxton as eligible FAs and McGowan was the only FA pick-up who made the roster (all the rest were either trades or cut outright by their former teams).

So, three probable compensatory picks. Jordan/Evans might be worth a 5th or 6th. Paxton a 7th.

AdamJT13 who is the expert on this projects four compensatory

picks: possible one late #6 and three #7.

There will be peace in the middle east before we would get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick for Gaffney.

Also, Roger Goodell will publicly renounce the JEST and get a Flying Elvis tattoo first.

Maybe he can give us back our 2008 1st round pick at the same time.
