C'mon guys, why is every writer who writes his opinion the next borges?
Do you folks realize anytime someone writes an article that is not about how great the pats are the boilerplate response on here is that they are idiots. Should glasper have written how pierte woods is going to be a passrushing monster anf wilhite is on the same career path as revis. Since crennell left the inhouse guys have come up with defenses that either cant stop the run, cant generate a passrush, or cannot produce turnovers. The only reason this team has decent stats is because they play 6 games a year against lame offenses from their division. Not sure why people think patricia will bring anything different then the last 2 mediocre dc's.
Sometimes the truth hurts... I know people want to bash writers who hate on the patirots, but this was not a bash article, it was a fair assesment.
This must be let the intern handle titles week at the Globe, too. At first title glance I thought this was an article about needing a passrusher or a clubhouse leader on defense.
He puts himself in the position of saying that he sees a big blind spot in BB's management style which BB is too ignorant or egotistical to address. It's a bit over the top for a twentysomething newspaper kid to drop bombs on a Hall of Fame NFL coach, but unfortunately that's the style of "blog-opinion" journalism even the Globe is stooping to.

Spot-on, Tunescribe. That's what I'm talking about. Even those of us who have MBAs or BSs in biz admin or are managers at quality companies couldn't possibly have a single clue as to what is required to run an NFL franchise. Why should be take what Gasper says as gospel?
To my point what a guy like Willie McDonough would do is talk to Belichick, Kraft or other high-level league execs, highlight other management dynamics in other franchise and take a historical view of what hasn't worked and what has at the FO and coaching level and apply that to what is going on here THEN offer an op/ed.
Gasper did none of that. I want to be informed- not be shoveled more of the same slop that I hear on the radiowaves.I thought thats what the print media used to do. Obviously that has changed- for the worse IMO.
Gasper has been working on his edge so he can snag air time on Felger's show. It's really sad what the sports talk market in this town has done to the dying print media. It's comical to listen to Felger reverently wash this kids balls like he's an insider... All depends on what you bring him I guess. Jonathan gets talked over because Felger doesn't want to hear what a mere team president has to say...
I'll say this for Borges though, at least he had his own 20 odd years of experience covering the league to draw on when he undertook his little vendetta with BB, who at the time had just landed here as a purported genius DC who failed as a HC.
Gasper's arrogance is just laughable. A couple of years ago he was promoted to Mike Reiss' waterboy. If his own cheapskate employer didn't promote from within he'd still be covering HS sports for the Globe's regional sports section, or unemployed.

im trying really hard to understand peoples logic. First no one has yet to come up with a passage in the article that was truly negative. Wouldnt be surprised if some of you complaining even read the article. Also you guys state that since he's new he cant have a negative opinion. You guys are basically saying he needs to cover the Pats for 10 years writing only positive things before he can criticize the patriots. The guy got the job and is told to write a story about a topic everyone is wondering about-the next DC of the Patriots. The Pats defense seems to have some issue every year. mangini and pees NFL experience was all under belichick. Ever since Romeo left the pats have either struggled against the run, the pass, rushing the passer, or creating turnovers. What makes people so sure that Patricia will come up with fresh ideas considering hes been studying under the same people. Sorry that gasper has an opinion. He could have easily written a story about patricia where he interviews his high school coach and mom and dad, where they surprisingly tell us they always knew he would be a leader and is perfect for the job, that way everyone around here gets excited since high school coaches and parents never have an unbiased opinion. Last years Pats were so stale and boring, never coming up with the clutch play on either side of the ball. they reminded me of carrolls first year with the pats. good enough to beat mediocre teams and smoke bad teams but lose to the good teams.

Shooting the messenger rather than dealing with the message is a full-time activity around here. I hope that helps to explain it.
It's blog/Twitter/Facebook/Myspace/Youtube/soundbyte/cell-phone video syndrome, and it's wreckED quality journalism as we know it. Newspapers should stop competing with ephemeral info sources, accept taking a smaller piece of the pie, and get back to what they do best. There will always be those of us who value substantive news/opinion. At least, I hope so.
