I heard Polian and Dungy say this on Sunday night countdown.

I guess they will let the Rats win their game. Didn't they let the Titans win a game like this a few years back.

Re: Colts to rest top players

2 of their 3 remaining games are against teams we need to keep behind us, Jacksonville and the Jets. Hope it bites them in the ass and they lose in the first round.. again.

Re: Colts to rest top players

Their goal was to beat the Pats regular season win streak. They did just that. No reason to try to win until the playoffs. I expect the Colts to lose to the Jags this Thursday.

Re: Colts to rest top players

No reason not to. They already clinched home field advantage for entire playoffs(although it'll be one and done for them...). As much as I despise everything that is Colts, those guys know what they are doing.

Re: Colts to rest top players

They earned the right to rest, we just need to worry about winning the next two and it won't affect us.

Re: Colts to rest top players

No way they don't go for the perfect season. No way. Manning's ego won't allow it.

Re: Colts to rest top players

The Pats would need to lose two of their next three for the Jets to overtake the Pats (assuming the Jets win out). If the Pats finish the season 9-7, they probably don't get into the playoffs no matter how the Jets do.

I don't care who the Jets play at this point. The Pats have an one game lead over the Jets. The Pats have the tiebreaker with the Jets. I think in a three way tie between the Pats, Dolphins, and the Jets; the Pats would have the advantage too since it would probably come down to strength of victory and the Pats would win that tiebreaker as long as the Pats' loss wasn't against the Bills.

As for the Jags, the only way they could beat the Pats for a Wild Card, is to win out and that means beating the Pats. And again, if both the Pats and the Jags are 10-6, that means the Pats win the division.

what does this mean exactly? The starters won't play?

Jax will beat em on Thursday

Nah! They have had a shot at a perfect season before and rested players. The Colts' philosophy is to rest players so they can lose momentum and have an early exit from the playoffs.

Re: Colts to rest top players

Good for them. Let's see how they do divisional round after 4 weeks of no real playing time.

ONE N DONE here we come!

Re: Colts to rest top players

Colts don't have a backup QB at the moment so I fully expect Manning to play every snap.

Are you kidding? They have been in this position a couple of times before and they tanked the last 2 or 3 games.

Their starters should be nice and rusty come mid January when the Patriots roll into the Drum.

Not playing real football for 4 weeks will stop whatever momental they have now.

Re: Colts to rest top players

How likely are we to get flexed to the Sunday night game on the 27th? If the Pats and Jags are fighting for a playoff spot, that's better than watching the Skins and Cowboys tank, right?

Re: Colts to rest top players

if the pats don't win their remaining games, they should not waste their time in the playoffs with any goals other than to make some revenue for the boss by getting a home game.

the pats are on another planet right now and there are going have to be broader changed than earlier anticipated. people looked at this year as a 'transition' year ...... next year will be at least that, also. the defense needs to replace most of its LB's, and its going to take time to get the unit playing well together

Re: Colts to rest top players

When were the Colts in position to go undefeated before?? 2005 they lost to the Chargers at full strength, THEN started resting people if I remember correctly.

Re: Colts to rest top players

They should go hard for undefeated until they lose, or until NO loses.

If Pats don't make it, just imagine a SB between two undefeated teams.

Re: Colts to rest top players

the colts goal was never to win 22 in a row to beat the pats record there goal was to get home field through out the playoffs and they did that

i don't agree with resting players 3 games befor the playoffs that did not work for the 1996 denver team

that's why 16-0 15-1 and 14-2 get beat by 9-7 and 10-6 teams in the playoffs cause they think they can just show up healthy and win cause they are just better then every one

will the NFL dose not work like that the team that gets hot going in to the playoffs is the team that will make the best push for a SB

Re: Colts to rest top players

Smart by the Colts. Let's face it, the Patriots playing to their potential scares opponents, we've simply been a disjointed unit this entire season. Give teams in the mix the chance if the Patriots slip up as well as minimizing risk to their own in dead rubber matches of a regular season which means very little.

I can't criticize the Colts at all if they do indeed carry this mantra.
