10-Pack: Trades that should be made before deadline - Mike Florio - NFL - Sporting News

2. Rams should trade Steven Jackson.
Steven Jackson, at 26 years old and in his sixth NFL season, is in the throes of pro football middle age. Given his hard-nosed running style, he's only got a few more years left before the L.T.-style decline begins.

Rams should get what they can for Steven Jackson. With the Rams more than a few years away from contending, Jackson will be used up before they're ready to make a move up the standings.

So why not get what they can now for Jackson?

Though most contenders have guys who can move the chains, the Packers could really use him. With Fred Taylor possibly out for the year in New England, Jackson would look good in silver and blue, too.

Maybe we could bring in Steven Jackson for a physical and send back
Maroney in his clothes.

I was just reading that and my eyes started to light up.. Of course it won't happen but if he was available, I would love to see him in the backfield with Brady handing him the ball.. He's a 26 year old RB that can play all three downs..

They have the same hair right? :)

That's actually not a terrible idea. What would we give up for him- one of our 2010 2nd rounders? That's probably a little steep for a RB with as much wear on his treads as Jackson has, and he'd have to learn the Pats' offense well enough to be an effective blocker in it, which can't be easy to do mid-season, but I've heard crazier ideas thrown around here and on PFT.

I don't think they'd want Maroney, since if they wanted a RB in his mid-20s with a bit of an injury history and some wear on him, they'd probably just keep Jackson. Maroney will probably remain effective for a couple more years than Jackson, since he's 2 years younger and doesn't take as many hits, but it still doesn't solve the problem at the core of it. IMO, they'd probably just want a draft pick.

I'd love to get him, maybe we could put this godforsaken 5 carries per RB crap to bed once and for all. If the Rams can get decent value for him they need to do it and RB is one of those position that you can step right into - or maybe our offense is too complicated and he'd need 1 1/2 years

Re: Florio says Steven Jackson would look good in siilver and blue.

How many years does he have left on his contract?

Re: Florio says Steven Jackson would look good in silver and blue

From rotoworld:

8/21/2008: Signed a six-year, $44.805 million contract. The deal contains $20.5 million guaranteed, including an $11.395 million signing bonus. Another $4.495 million is available through incentives. He must average 1,200 yards rushing and 400 yards receiving over the first four years to void the final two seasons on his contract. 2009: $5.5 million, 2010: $6.105 million, 2011: $7.2 million, 2012-2013: $7 million (Voidable Years), 2014: Free Agent. Cap charge: $7.4 million (2009).

Hmmmmmmm. Lot of miles but hes a horse.

No kidding. Pats lead the league in Rastafarians..:p

Re: Florio says Steven Jackson would look good in silver and blue

Get Maroney's former Minnesota partner Marion Barber in a trade with Dallas and send Maroney to the Cowboys and a 2nd rounder next season.

At least Barber can run consistently and with power.

Re: Florio says Steven Jackson would look good in siilver and blue.

I'm on board with this if his contract is reasonable. Maroney is from St. Louis and might just need a change of scenery. Would Maroney and our 2010 3rd get it done?

Not even close.. You'd have to offer multiple picks and one of those would have to be contingent on his playing time.. Say in next years draft something like a second round pick and a fourth round pick.. and of course the fourth round pick is contingent on his playing time and/or stats. If he meets a certain number it goes up to a #3..It would be Well worth it.. He's been in the league for 6 year and will be 27.. He has another 4 good years..

No way STL does it for Maroney and a 3rd. Maybe Maroney and a 2nd, but this guy is 1st round talent and Maroney (bust or not) isn't any more valuable than a 4th IMO.

And Jackson's only problem is that he's very injury prone.

Maroney is from St. Louis.....THROW HIM IN!:D

Absolutely ! a change is scenery probably will help them both. How many 2nd round picks do we have next year and what are we going to do about them ?

True but over 5 years the guy has averaged 291 touches (runs and receptions) a year despite missing 3-4 games a year on average. Truly a workhorse.

More than ample. They can do it...

1st Round
2nd Round
2nd Round (Titans)
2nd Round (Jaguars)
4th Round
6th Round
7th Round (PHI - Greg Lewis)

Dear God,

Could we please get someone like Jackson or Marion "the Barbarian" Barber?

This team needs and loves power runners and god it would surely help....
