There is no way Terrence Nunn makes this roster!

I also forgot about a fumble at Columbia vs. Missouri in 2005 when he gave one to the Tigers in the red zone near the end of a tie game, probably cost us that one too.

With all that said I will say that Nunn, by all accounts, had a real loser for a WR coach (he is still there somehow) and an unorthodox strength and conditioning coach who was following Callahan's orders to make all his players NFL size gargantuan. What I am saying is that getting away from both Dave Kennedy (SC coach) and Ted Gilmore (WR coach) has probably HELPED Nunn considerably. I also think it speaks volumes of the guy's dedication to stay in good enough shape after a year off to make the most of an unexpected opportunity.

I expect that he is in better playing shape today and we all know he is receiving better coaching, so maybe, just maybe, there is some latent potential coming to the surface.

And Mike the Britt, well played sir ;).

Slater is hardly a lock. He's shown me nothing so far. At least Nunn is showing some receiver skills. Slater is a player without a position outside of special teams.

Slater is Tebucky Jones minus the stopwatch.;)

I am not sure how Tebucky and Slater compare to eachother. One was drafted high the other low. one was expected to play and play well with the starters the other is pretty much just a STer. But maybe I am missing something please explain???

#5 receiver should be a duel between Slater and Nunn - I expect a dogfight

Oh yeah this is gonna be a huge dogfight except that Slater is running with the DBs and by my count has not got any reps at WR.

side note: I think I am gonna take on the whole board in this thread.

If Nunn is really lucky, he will be this year's Bam Childress (binky until the final cut).

Ouch. After reading those stories, I can understand your doubts over Nunn's future here. Let's see how well he maintains possession of his catches beginning on Thursday, when Samuel, Hobbs, Sheldon Brown & the rest of the Eagles DBs come at him with bad intentions.

Lucky the team that gets to cut a guy like Terrence!

Official Patriots Football Weekly Blog Blog Archive Quick Kicks: Day 11, Monday AM notebook

* The Play of the day was made by rookie WR Terrence Nunn, who continues his training camp hot streak. During 7-on-7 work, Nunn ran a go-route down the numbers on the right side, with fellow rookie Darius Butler covering. Rookie QB Brian Hoyer lofted a pass Nunn’s way, but it was slightly behind him. When Nunn looked up and noticed where the ball was, he adjusted by leaping and twisting his body counter-clockwise. As he secured the ball with both hands, his body nearly parallel to the ground, Nunn was crunched simultaneously by Butler and rookie safety Pat Chung. Nunn held on, however, and, for his effort, received a raucous applause from the crowd. Nunn made another spectacular catch on a pass thrown behind him in 11-on-11 action. He reached back with both hands and snagged the ball right before it appeared that it was headed for an interception.

If Slater keeps screwing up on teams, BB will end your argument.

Tsucky and Slater are great athletes that don't have football intelligence.

While I think Slater is as close to a lock as STer can be it would not suprise me that much if BB cut him (this team is real stacked and if someone who plays offense or defense proves to be close in ST skills they win)

still no explanation how he compares to Tbucky.

How can you say Slater doesn't have football intelligence? I have no idea where you get that from. give me some examples please, back up your statement.

I'll bring this back to Nunn rather than Slater.

He makes the roster.

Better than Edelman, Aiken and Ventrone who I believe are the other 3 who have had reps at WR this camp.

I could see Nunn, Aiken and Bubba all making the 53. And Slater, while I think about it.

The problem with the WR corps is that none of them will sneak by onto the PS. Some other team will snatch them up, particularly the Chiefs. So if Moss, Welker, Galloway, and Lewis are locks, and the Pats keep six and thus two from the group of Nunn, Edelman, Aiken, and Slater, then the two they don't keep will be suiting up somewhere else a day later.

Unless, of course, the two guys they decide not to keep suffer... :::cough cough:::.... "season ending injuries" and end up on IR. ;)

OK, let me try countering this in a new way. Heck, I've got dozens!

Slater is not taking any reps on offense, so let's leave him out.
Galloway, Aiken and Lewis are only signed through 2009, so they're out.
That leaves Edelman and Nunn as the only "two guys" you could possibly be talking about.

Edelman has elite physical and mental attributes, but is desperately raw as he adjusts to a dramatic position shift. He needs reps and coaching in the worst way. Dumping him on the IR where he can't practice guarantees that he won't be ready to contribute in 2010, either. It would be a serious blow to his long-term NFL prospects.

Nunn would be a fabulous asset on the practice squad, ready to plug in if any of the receivers are injured. On IR, he's worthless for the season. If he's not good enough to crack the roster, I'd rather take the 50% chance of him clearing waivers to the PS than the 100% chance of him wasting away in the training room for no good reason.

Folks on here confuse me.

Let me get this staright:

Sam Aiken....Haven't heard ANYTHING of note about him in camp...ZERO

Slater....Same thing.

Edelman.....nice project player, interesting athlete.....PS in my mind.

All of the above are shoe in's to some for the 53 man roster.

Nunn.....Making catch after catch, in some cases with incredible ability and athleticism. About one blurb in TC articles about his great performance almost every other day.

Too bad he we can't keep him.....No room for him.....Good luck on some other team.

Weird Stuff.

Pull out the file on Childress, Bam.

I refuse to believe that there is some magic cookie cutter that makes UDFA wide receivers to torment and tantalize Pat's fans every year.

My gut tells me this guy is a little different.

Bam was a feisty, hard working kid with a cool name.

Nunn seems to have genuine upper level NFL WR talent. By upper level, I don't mean Moss or Welker level. Just that he'll see some significant playing time. Just a feeling...just an opinion.

Jeez the dude had more receptions and receiving yards at run happy Nebraska than Irving Fryar.

That means nothing in terms of translating to the NFL.

I think he seems like another 4A UDFA wide receiver with no obvious special teams position(s).

I root for him and Edelman because I like the underdog but I can't say they'd make the roster better over Slater and Aiken, who we know can play ST (especially the latter guy).

And we really won't know anything about how these guys stack up until a couple preseason games have gone by, since the only way to evaluate coverage units is in those games. (Haven't been to any of the practices, but it would be unusual for a team to practice much coverage stuff full speed in training camp because of the potential for injury.)

No Deus it doesn't. But in a storied college franchise like Nebraska with a long history, the guy is second all-time in catches and yards. Does it mean anything with regards to how he'll do in the NFL...no....but impressive nonetheless.

Now....combine that with his eye-opening performances at TC....it makes you take a closer look.

He'll make the roster.
