OT: Falcons release Vick

I thought they released him shortly after he was arrested. They've been holding onto his rights all this time? Did that count against their salary cap?

Actually, they couldn't release him because of the Cap implications at the time. Now, since its been 2 years, there are a lot less cap implications.

I'd wager that there is, somewhere, since pretty much everyone does or says something hypocritical at one point or another. For Mora, it's not this issue, though.
Gotcha. When you said
Not for this issue, no.
there was a strong inference about Mora specifically.

Reminds me of one time the Duty Officer pissed off the deck watch on a sub I was on. Next day when the Duty Officer came onboard, the deck watch logged him in with the comment, "LT --- came on board sober today."

Funny as hell.

PFT now suggests the Pats could make a move for Vick. I ain't buying it, but who knows.

I hope there is a team out there that gives Vick one shot to redeem his image and reclaim some dignity and self-worth.
Almost 2 years in jail for something someone he was associated with was doing? Someone should give him a chance to show he's a bigger, better man and learned from his errors.....

My .02 cents

I'd say that Vick needs the Pats more than the Pats need Vick.

he might not be the best person, but hes a pretty darn good football player. he could definitely help out as a #2QB, Wildcat QB or RB with ability to pass, slot WR, and kick and punt returner

Excuse me...something someone he was associated with was doing? :bricks:

He didn't just participate in killing those dogs. He owned the entire operation and in effect ran his own little interstate gambling enterprise. He also lied repeatedly about his involvement to the government, the league, the IRS...and the poor dumb bastard who paid him $34M to be the face of his franchise.

The bankrupcy judge has already given him multiple chances to show he is a bigger, better man and learned from his errors. So far to no avail...

He was not a pretty darn good football player. He was a pretty darn explosive athlete. He couldn't be the #4 QB here because he can't read defenses and he can't deliver the ball from the pocket. And every snap he'd cost a first ballot HOF'er is a lost opportunity. Running backs get hit a lot more than scrambling QB's, and that was already taking a toll on his health. He's never returned a kick in his life and I can't fathom he could play WR in this offense (again predicated on disciplined route running and the capacity for pre and post snap sight adjustments).

BTW he was a lousy teamate and a loner the entire time he was in Atlanta. That is part of his underlying problem.

This guy knows:

Dale Arnold: How much does character figure in to the acquisition and ultimate signing and resigning of New England Patriot football players?

Robert Kraft: That’s a very big part of it. I saw all kinds of situations in my early years. When I hired Pete Carroll and then Bill Belichick, those are the two coaches that I have hired since I’ve been in the NFL. I said to each of them, the only thing that’s important to me. Is that we not have thugs and hoodlums here and if we need that to win then I’m getting out of the business. People in this region of the country are not willing to forgive the way people in other areas of the country are and if we’re responsible for bringing someone here to this region who has a past history of abusing women and then they come to this marketplace and do it then shame on us. We want to win but we don’t want to win so badly that we’re going to compromise certain values. You know when you understand that this is the ultimate team sport. And people are responsible to other people. And we’re gonna have our problems that doesn’t mean certain things are going to happen but that at the basic core we want good guys, good guys who can subjugate their egos for the good of the team and feel a responsibility to the brand and the team that they’re proud to be part of it."

Finally the Julius Peppers threads stop, and now Vick takes center stage as a possible. I have two words as evidence it will NEVER happen-

Christian Peter

Damn Str8 Skippy !!

Never in my lifetime.

Belichick's probably just trying to trick another coach into making a mistake with Vick by floating that rumor.

I can see Mangini falling for that hook line and sinker. :singing:
Or Brad Childress.
