Patriots agree to terms with Leigh Bodden

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

This means we have a damn good group of cornerbacks. Which is good because 1-2 are likely to be IR'ed at some point, I'm sure.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

Yeah, thats my question: What does all this mean?

Does it mean they're not going to resign hobbs next year? Does it mean the kids are busts? Does it mean someone is getting turned into a safety? (Springs would be my guess).

Wheatley looked close to a breakthrough until he broke his PREVIOUSLY UNINJURED wrist.
Hobbs is a decent Corner (likely better when not returning kicks) and an excellent KR. Don't be shocked if this move means:

A) Wheatley's injury is such that the Pats won't give him a roster spot.
B) Hobbs and a draft pick will soon hop a plane to Carolina.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

Now that we're filling in holes, I wouldn't be surprised if we trade at least 2 of our day one picks for future higher picks.

I agree - ever since we got the high second I've expected that we'll trade at least 1 of our lower 2nd rounders if not both.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

I know asante was all-pro but...

Asante 5' 9"
Hobbs 5' 9"
--------------DEFENSIVE REVOLUTION
Bodden 6' 1"
Springs 6' 0"

Just my 2 cents! :D

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

Why on earth would they draft another CB on day one?

The only way I can see that happening is if someone they covet happens to fall in their lap. Otherwise, I doubt it.

Two reasons.....they have quantity, I want to increase the quality also. As was pointed out, we are talking a one year deal with Bodden and some young talent who still hasn't proven themselves fully yet. No need to reach so I am in aggreement if somebody "falls into their lap" type of a pick, but I also would like to see them target the position as a draft "need".....small letters need.

Second reason is Bodden only signed a one year deal, I don't want to have the Pats go through this same dance next off season if they have the opportunity to pick up another nice CB on day 1.

The only negative is roster crowding, but you can always make room especially with the injury prone secondary we have had the past couple of seasons.

They're not going to give Wheatley a spot because he broke his wrist? On what planet does this make sense?

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

Terrific news.

The Pats secondary is a whole lot better than last year.
Hopefully those third and fifteens will be a little more difficult to complete against the Pats.

The Pats secondary is also a whole lot deeper. They now have five guys who have starting experience.

The secondary is also pretty flexible, with Springs able to play safety or corner. The Pats are very effective when they can use that versatility.

Further, the Pats really don't have to use a high pick on the secondary if they don't like the value. They can target a couple players they like and move around.

I really like this deal. Hopefully this doesn't break the cap, and they can still re-sign Wilfork.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

It's only a one year deal, so I'm not sure people should be looking for much here.

1 year with the Patriots seems to equal big $$'s in free agency for many players. I'm very optimistic about this move, of course I'm a homer and that's my Job.

Between this and the Springs signing, I'm excited about our secondary going into next year.

As for who plays where...that'll sort itself out. We play w 5 DBs (or even 6) for about half the defensive snaps.

What I'm saying is, they may fear the guy is REALLY injury prone. He's broken both wrists already. That's a bad sign, imo.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

The secondary just got bigger as well - he's the biggest DB on the team.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

i dont want Peppers or Taylor...would rather draft a guy

I KNEW this was coming!....and said so in another thread somewhere.

And don't be upset by their next move...which will most likely be Taylor

But they will definitely draft someone like Barwin at #23 or #34 and give him a year two to develop behind him...

I think most Pat fans are in aggreement with this....if not necessarily "excited"...at least a lot more comfortable than last year.

Definitely not going to be thinking "here we go again" at the start of every 3rd and long plan. Maybe even back into the "maybe we can get a pick" mode.

This is huge.....no longer the land of midgets.....fast, high jumping midgets, but still midgets. (feel free to read "midgets" as "little people" if you are so inclined)

I don't think having 5 CBs is a bad thing. Given our history (even in the super bowl years), we lose 2 or 3 DBs at least by season's end. Why not have starters to back them up (or use in the nickel) as opposed to Hank Poteat and Earthwind Moreland?

I wonder if T.O. joining the AFC East had anything to do with the emphasis to suddenly get bigger?

That'll be the spin but I think this was in the works for awhile.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

I love this move..we have the vet...and also now a taller CB...to go with Hobbs and teh young ones..I think the CB position is strong...next step safeties...Harrison? WIlliams Tank or Roy... I really hope Rodney will return to have a last go at it with a solid year..even though playing only in spots

Nah, I imagine this was in the works before TO was even cut. Bodden probably just wanted to weigh his options before choosing which offer to take.

Re: Patriots Agree to Terms with Bodden

Bodden is going to be on Sirius this afternoon with Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan (don't know excatly what time).
